Yo! Any tips for surviving this heat wave? It’s 39c (102f) in my livingroom rn 😅 i have a portable AC in my bedroom but it doesnt reach far enough. Ive got 3 layers of black out curtains on all windows, and 3 fans going with ice in front of them (it melts in less than 5min). I cant for the life of me figure out any other ways to cool this place down

Blackout curtains aren't just enough, you want to add insulation between the windows and the curtains. This will help keep the heat out and the cold air in.

Since you have a portable AC, choose one room to keep it in and try and keep that room sealed. The best way to do that is if your door opens into that room, put a blanket on the outside of the door frame so that way when you open the door there's another barrier to help keep that cold air in.

Sometimes it's easier to cool one room and live in that room during a heatwave. Then it is to try and cool and enter a house/e apartment.

If you have it in your living room, put a blanket on the doorway leading out of the living room, if it's possible.

Another way to help survive this heatwave is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. And if you work outside sip water throughout the day, not just when you're thirsty. As soon as you get home, take a shower to bring your temperature down.

Make sure that anything that might give off heat is turned off or used at a bare minimum, such as light bulbs, stoves/ ovens, and sometimes yes even fans.

Another thing to help is that the room that has the portable AC in it have a fan to help circulate the air around.

We have a new addition to the Rekina is Indestructible Saga

I was driving alone last night on a highway and a vehicle with no head lights or license plate tried to make me t-bone them, then spent 20min chasing me and trying to run me off the road and ram my bumper. This bitch was going 170km (106mph for you Americans) running from them and I think I missed my calling as a NASCAR driver cause they never managed to hit me and they eventually backed off when i was close to town.

Made it to my town and went straight to the police station. They said it was likely an attempted carjacking. One hell of a night

Humans being such a social species that, to aliens, it sometimes comes across as a hivemind.

Humans are attention seeking by nature. Attention is sought after because there is historically safety in numbers, so humans are naturally inclined to mimic the behaviours of others in order to subconsciously identify ‘hey, look! I do as you do just like the rest of your group so you can trust that I am not dangerous. Can I be a part of this group??’ and the other human sees this and says ‘Ah yes, another one who does as we do so they must be safe, come sit with us’.

Aliens see humans copying each other’s behaviour so fluidly that it almost comes off as creepy. It’s even creepier when humans mimic THEIR actions, too. Like, no, do not rope me into your mind melding species cult, please and thank you.

Even to the modern day, this intensely social instinct is still alive and well, as humans will unconsciously mimic positive actions of others even when they don’t understand the context. For example, clapping.

An alien and a human are sitting having a conversation when suddenly hoots and hollers and the clapping of hands erupt from across the room. Immediately, much to the alien’s surprise, the human starts clapping too as they look around trying to see what is happening.

The reaction was so immediate that the alien is taken aback by it before remembering that humans were known to be strangely in tune with each other compared to other species so they just wait it out.

Once it dies down, the alien asks

“So, what was that about?”

“No idea.”

“But you…joined in. You didn’t know what you were celebrating??”

“Well, no, but I don’t explicitly have to know what’s going on to guess that it’s something good and join in. It would feel a bit rude if I didn’t clap.”

And the alien just sits there like ‘It’s NOT a hivemind???’ strangely, that’s somehow worse than if it was.

A common thing I see on here is "adrenaline is unique to humans and terrifying to everything else".

Now I know realistically it's unlikely other alien species don't have some sort of survival hormone as well, but in the chance that they don't I feel like there's a lot of untouched potential for this.

Because adrenaline has been discussed for fight-or flight situations before; mothers protecting their children, people lifting cars or buildings off other people, surviving in bullshit situations out of sheer willpower; but the way we play with it has to be a cause of conversation amongst other intergalactic species too.

Like we have rollercoasters, theme park rides, horror movies. We jumpscare each other and teach our kids little hunting games like tag, hide-and-seek, and red light green light. We play video games where we hide from a pursuer in a threatening environment and our bodies react like we're actually being stalked in real life, and we do it on purpose.

Because most other earth animal species have adrenaline (or epinephrine), but none of them really seek it out for thrill purposes like humans do. It makes you wonder what aliens would think of us, since we're apparently little freaks that like to be scared on purpose.

An alien species that relies very heavily on chemical signals and scents to identify people being completely baffled by humans because of how many perfumes, deodorants, fabric softeners, shampoos, creams, toothpastes, and even breath sprays we dump on ourselves every single day because we hate how we smell naturally. (These aliens could be entirely blind or just have the equivalent of face blindness despite having generally good eyesight, I’m not picky)

We humans consider it disgusting and disrespectful to show up a formal event smelling like natural body odour. We scent EVERYTHING just to not have to smell like ourselves.

The aliens often gets terribly confused on who’s who as a result of our efforts, much to their dismay, especially when it comes to diplomatic meetings. One day their human friend changes their shampoo and suddenly doesn’t smell like them anymore or someone borrows someone else’s perfume and now there’s like four people who all smell exactly the same. And the poor alien is trying so hard to not lose track of who they know and who they don’t but it’s the equivalent of trying to find your friend in a crowd while wearing a headset with psychedelic visuals playing on it, they’re just super disoriented.

And what’s more, some smells for the alien are used to signal willingness to breed, so some human wearing a fancy perfume they like is the alien equivalent of wearing lingerie to a board meeting and it’s super distracting and more than a little embarrassing to try and be conversing professionally with someone who smells like ‘SEX ME UP SEX ME UP SEX ME UP-‘

Thankfully, this problem gets brought up relatively early and human diplomats are assigned specific scents in little vials to help identify themselves.

I think we found the perfect enrichment for human crew members.

Our humans really enjoyed this area we provided for them.

They can run, fall, climb and more, to their hearts content.

They really enjoy being lifted and thrown into a large pit of foam blocks, or plastic spheres.

Note: our crew is mostly Xarnian, so we possess the necessary strength to lift the average adult human despite the density they have evolved on their deathworld.

Human larvae enjoy it the most, but even the mature humans are also thrilled by these activities.

Incidents involving "acts of human" are down 18% in the first cycle alone since we installed the enrichment chamber.

Additional clarity, especially for those who have followed me a long time.

Ive gotten several anons along the lines of “i thought you were catholic i figured youd support this”. So i figured id address it all at once instead of individually.

Yes, I used to a be a devout catholic. Yes, I used to be pro-life. I never agreed with their stances on LGBTQ issues, even when I was in the depth of it.

I am no longer catholic, I am pro-choice, and i am more vocal about LGBTQ issues than ever. Im a member of the community as well. Looking back, the group I was with was absolutely a cult, or at least cult adjacent. They brought me in when I was young, and I have spent years unlearning the mindset. That’s how cults work, they prey on you when you’re vulnerable. I was a lonely kid with few friends and they made me feel wanted. I converted and joined their group. I served two years with them, received the training of looking for the outcast kids and showing them ‘love’ and getting them involved in our activities. The story of my conversion is still told during trainings as a success story of ministry done right. I regret it now, but I cannot change it. Im out, and happier than I ever have been even with all the issues I have going on.

Even if I were still Catholic, Catholics should not support what is going on right now. I would never have supported this even then. People change, views change. But morals and doing what’s right do not change.

And to any remaining followers who do still follow Trump. It’s not too late to say this has gone too far, even if you supported it before. The best time to speak out was before, the second best time is now.
