I genuinely find the nature of Omori and the way dream Basil is treated to be one of the more interesting things to discuss with regards to Black Space
The non-Basil strangers that wander Black Space make reference to the two "forms" that Sunny/the dreamer/Omori take: the current, passive form that makes Sunny stronger and protects him, but will eventually extract a sacrifice, and the destructive form, which takes over when Sunny learns the truth and "takes care" of the situation. Interestingly, in-game, the destructive form appears to be a bit pro-active, as it is implied that in past loops, it didn't appear until Sunny learned the truth. In addition, these forms are all described as forms that Sunny takes, not entities separate to himself, which I believe is the key to analyzing what they might mean.
I personally do not see the different Black Space deaths of the non-church of Something Basils as something that Omori is orchestrating. For the most part, these Basils don't seem to actually remember the incident. The things they remind Sunny of are, in a lot of cases, happier memories like eating watermelon at the beach, or simple references to events that were erased from the lore of Headspace, like when Sunny fell into the lake. Rather than an intentional expression of hatred or even a case of trying to erase the truth, these deaths should be understood as a subconscious horror that Sunny is experiencing. This is actually something that OMOCAT has spoken about before.
This is a really interesting stream that I recommend people watch if they haven't. She actually talks directly about Basil's death by spider being inspired by a movie she watched. My main take away from it was that no one should be considered to be "in control" when in Black Space. It's a nightmare preying on Sunny's subconscious.
I do think it is incorrect to say that Omori turns against Basil after learning of his role in the truth. Instead, I think Omori is always "aware" of Basil's role in the truth, even if he doesn't know what the truth is. After all, the player doesn't really learn about Basil's role in the truth until after Black Space. I understand that this is one of the more esoteric concepts of the game to discuss and there's a lot of room for interpretation as to what's going on, but here's what I think:
When we see Omori interacting with Headspace Basil or watering his flowers and trying to "Save Him", it should be understood that these are actions being taken while Omori is serving as a passive protector for Sunny, or in other words, this is what Sunny wants to do in his dream world. That is why the secret "smile ending" is hidden behind watering Basil's flowers in Headspace, despite that not having any bearing on the real world. Throughout the game, you as Sunny made the decision to care about Basil's flowers, so you get to stay and wait to see Sunny and Basil share one last smile and put the burden of the secret behind them.
On the other hand, the more aggressive form of Omori that comes out at the end of Black Space is only concerned with hiding the truth. Sure, that largely means dealing with Basil, but he doesn't actually hate him. He's more of an antivirus. He also attacks Sunny, in the end. His job is to stop Sunny from having to live with the truth, and if Sunny has opened to the "truth" part of that statement, then the only way for Omori to fulfill his purpose is to stop the "live" part of it.
I know it may be an unpopular opinion, but basically, I think most of the positive aspects of "Omori" and Basil's relationship (the sunflower bits <3) are best understood as Sunny living his idealized life in his dreams with his best friend, while the colder and more horrific aspects (the sunflower bits... </3) are the more aggressive "Omori" persona kicking in as a firewall. Really, he is a level above all the headspace denizens in the hierarchy of Sunny's dreams. Headspace Basil is replaceable, and Omori knows it, even if Sunny doesn't. The only character I'd even say approaches the same level is the Basil Stranger that always refers to Sunny by name and never uses the term "Dreamer", and he is basically a stand-in for the real Basil and is presented as a diametrically opposed force to Omori.
If it's unclear, I don't really see Omori as his own character, in the same way that I don't see Stranger or any other dreamworld individual as their own character with motivations and wants and personalities. There is no Headspace Sunflower that isn't just Sunny losing himself in the dream. In the course of the game, Sunny is unsure of his feelings for Basil, and there are some feelings of negativity due to his role in the incident, but I believe part of Sunny's intended arc is that he has to forgive and embrace Basil, with no half-measures. That's why we see the repeated instances of "Will you forgive me? My best friend..." It's a question that haunts Sunny throughout the game, but I don't know that the real Basil ever asks it, he's never in the right headspace (ha) to realize that he's even done Sunny wrong. But it's the question on Sunny's mind and it is answered after Sunny learns the truth and decides to step into Basil's room to "Save" him for the final time, which is why Basil is presented so positively, and his hopes held so dearly, and his memories and smile cherished so lovingly from that point on, even after he takes Sunny's eye.
This one kind of got away from me, sorry for turning your post into a whole thing lol. I feel like I'm a bit of an extreme sunflower purist sometimes because I really just can't get into the idea of Omori as his own character in headspace with his own individual relationships with the headspace characters outside of being a proxy for Sunny. Again, this is all super esoteric and weird and there's no one correct way to interpret what's going on in Sunny's mind. Super sorry for turning your post into a whole thing if you don't like my interpretation, I can move it into its own post if you want me to lol
