BLOG Post – Creating a poster image.

My next task is to create a poster image which captures various activities that “sight concern” hosts. By looking at the task scenario I found out that I needed to create a “A dominant image which shows social and education activities including an image of the Bradbury centre; this dominant image will be used on a poster in the future to promote community awareness for the charity.” As soon as I found this out I started designing a few ideas. Similar to my banner I searched for images on the internet and even used similar images to the banner I created. The first image that I created was composing two images into one by using Xara’s layers features. After adding 70% opacity black boxes and bold white text and compiling more images.

My next step was to make the banner, looking at the assignment brief I saw that that it had to be a “bitmap composition photo image as a banner which can be used at the top of their new website”. Knowing this I started designing my banner on a piece of paper, I came up with a nice composition image idea in which various images of “sight concern” are compiled into one horizontal image. I started off by looking on google images and searching various terms that relate to sight concern. I ended up finding some really nice pictures, I then saved all these images in a certain folder which would make it easier for me when I inserted it into Xara. My first step towards making the banner, I inserted multiple images and put the next to each other. I then did this for all the images, put them together, added the black border, inserted my logo and added a pun.

Before creating my graphical images, I had to do research on what the company was about, “sight concern” is a company that dedicates helping people who have trouble seeing or can’t see at all. As soon as I knew this, I was handed a piece of paper and started drawing designs on it. Most of the logos that I was designing ended up being eyes and glasses but I ended up sticking with a pair of glasses that said “sight concern” within the lenses. I then looked at the assignment brief for creating my logo and saw that my logo had to be

“Black and white vector-based logo which includes the charity’s name”. And as soon as I had my design, I launched up Xara and made a blank a4 page, I then found the square icon and changed the colour to black and then used the 3D tool to extrude it sideways.The next step was to add more rectangle shapes to form a glasses shape, I did this by making multiple layers and then composing them together, I then added oval shapes to act as the eye and placed them over the glasses, I changed the colour to white. I then used text tool and wrote two individual words one for “sight” and one for “concern”. I’m not 100% proud of this graphic but since I’m pretty unfamiliar with xara, if I could improve anything with more time I would make the white circle the same size. I then decided to create another graphic purely for practice; I’m a bit more proud of this one but I didn’t get to finish it due to lack of time.

Assignment 3

"Why you chose BTEC ICT and what optional units you want to take and why?" I chose BTEC ICT because it fits both my skills and hobbies perfectly. I’ve always had an interest within I.T but it wasn’t until I chose my GCSE’s till I realized being involved with I.T was something that I wanted to pursue in life. In terms of optional units, I would like to take website development but more in particular, anything to do with graphics. As it allows me to be creative while still making good content. "How has IT impacted on your life?" Without I.T, I would be a completely different person, Pretty much all my hobbies that I do require a form of I.T and more importantly requires knowledge of I.T. In more simpler words, I.T plays a huge part in my day to day life, and the fact that I choose to do a BTEC ICT course shows that. "What do you think the impact of ICT will be in the future?" Considering within the last 10 years on how far I.C.T has come, it’s going to be great to see how far ICT will become in the next 10 years. I think I.T will impact the future most by allowing work areas to complete tasks much easier by allowing work places to implement robotics, robotics will be able to be used within factories to produce products faster such as cars. I feel like nano technology will also be used more frequently to help medical science and A.I (artificial intelligence) will be used to help people who might have a disability. Overall I.C.T in the future is going to be incredibly helpful in the future and will allow for more jobs to be created.

I'm currently an I.T student currently studying at Heart of Worcestershire College. I like long walks on the beach... actually no. I hate long walks and I hate beaches. Most of my hobbies consist around I.T, whether it be animation or making graphics. I find all of it dern sure fun.
