Looks up with a slightly confused look on his face. “I was saying stuff out loud?” he asked, letting out a sigh. “I honestly didn’t mean to. Things are a little stressful right now. I’ll try keep quiet.”

“Yeah, you were. Lucky this place is empty or you’d get a few more funny looks.” Andrew replied, pausing for a moment and looking down at him, “Stressful how? You okay?”

“Funny looks wouldn’t bother me. I mean, it’d only draw attention to this face, and that’s a good thing for everyone,” Hunter smirked. Though it didn’t last long, as he started to answer the question. “I haven’t heard from my dad in a long time, I mean I’m used to going a while without a word, but never three months, and my mother hasn’t heard anything either...”

Andrew stopped at the edge of the table, setting the cup down and frowning. “Do you often talk to yourself in coffee shops, kid?”

Hunter sat writing at a table, muttering to himself, every now and again scrunching up a page and adding it to a small pile on the table. “Come on Hunter, it’s not like you’ve never done this before. Just write it. Okay. He’ll get it. Just write it.” Lets out an annoyed sigh.

“I’d love to! I mean.. If you don’t mind the company..”

“I don’t mind at all.”

“Oh, that’s.. that’s really nice of you. But I don’t really drink.”

“Okay, if you’re sure. But my company is still pretty damn good, if you’d like to take advantage of that”

“At least it all worked out in the end, right?” Grace replied, nodding slightly as she picked up her drink to take another sip. She wasn’t sure if she could say the same about her situation, but she didn’t really feel like going into detail.

“Well, I’m not going to say that until it is the end, and that’s not until he’s retired,” he said with a shrug. He finished his drink and called the bar tender over to get him another.

Grace nodded, falling quiet for a second. She wished she could say weed was one of her worst vices, but it didn’t even come close. She didn’t know the names of half of the pills she was taking these days, and it wasn’t as if she hadn’t considered the stronger stuff. She looked over at him as he spoke, “Damn, I’m sorry. That sounds rough.”

Hunter shook his head. “He’s fine, on tour again actually. Hopefully his last one before he retires”

Grace laughed quietly, “Doesn’t sound all too bad, actually. But yeah, thanks. Hey uh– if you don’t mind me asking, what happened that got you stuck smoking weed in Amsterdam for a month?”

“Better than thinking at the time. Still smoke from time to time.” He thought for a minute before answering the question. “I don’t mind you asking... My dad was MIA for a while, for all I knew he was dead, and it was the most likely thing to happen, so I just assumed.”

“Can’t say it was meant as one, but sure. Whatever keeps you happy.”

“Yeah, still taking it as a compliment.”

“Oh, well.” Grace shrugged, a little nonchalantly, before laughing. “Yeah, well, I’ve never had the best coping mechanisms. This is just one of many vices, you don’t have to tell me that it’s wrong.”

“I’m not going to say a word. I spent a month in Amsterdam stoned because I started using it as a coping mechanism. I’m not going to judge or anything, just let me know when you want more vodka.”

“I know that a lot of people liked, it but I think it was just women who got really in to the idea of it”

“Oh really? I’m sorry about that… may I ask what kind of situation?”

“Yeah, I can see why though, I mean I have considered seeing it.”

“Oh, yeah it’s not bad really, its just not what I want to do with my life. My dad’s in the Army. So whenever he’s on tour, like now, my mum tries to compensate by taking pictures for her work and doing as much as possible unti he gets to whatever base he’s been assigned. And I spent half my life choosing army bases or wherever it was my mum was going this time for months at a time. I basically had to choose between my mum and my dad a lot of the time and they’e actually happily married.  But the first time they’re going to be able to spend an extended period of time together since I was born is when my dad gets back from tour and retires.”

“Well, you’re not the worst I’ve ever had, I’ll give you that.”

“I’m taking that as  a compliment.”

“Yeah, no. You probably shouldn’t ask. I have a feeling that you’re gonna, though.” Grace mumbled, sighing. “I just wanna forget that I exist. For one night, I just… Don’t wanna be here.”

“I wasn’t going to actually.” He took a drink and nodded. “Okay, well, I should probably tell you that’s not a way to deal with stuff, but it’s up to you what you do, so I may as well just go along with it.”

“I haven’t either”

“I suppose, but you know, it doesn’t mean you’ll be settled down forever, there is always room for change”

“Dang, can’t even ask if it’d be worth my time watching.” 

“I suppose so, as long as it’s not in the same way my parents are unsettled. Swore I’d never end up in that situation. I’d rather be settled.”

“You know it would probably be a good source of money though, you could be like Magic Mike or something”

“Yeah, I can understand that..”

“Never actually seen that, probably should.”

“Yeah, still a little odd that I settled down before they did.”

“Maybe you are in the wrong line of work then, Hunter. Maybe you should go looking for an exotic dancing gig you know?”

“Yeah, I completely get that. It’s nice sometimes to also kind of live a more simple life.”

“Well no, I wouldn’t want to do it all the time, just a bit of fun really. Though  could probably give the girls at Bottoms Up a run for their money.” 

“Yeah. I mean my parents are still off and about. But they’ll probably both settle down themselves when my dad’s finished with what he’s doing.”

“You can’t be serious? You would actually do that? That’s crazy…”

“Exactly, It’s a decent living too, I can afford an apartment for myself and live quite comfortably.”

“Yeah, some places in Europe can have a lot less boundaries than here, and well sometimes it’s fun to just be naked.” 

“Yeah I feel the same way about working in Oscar’s if I’m honest. I know people think it’s a little weird after I’ve done so much travelling before. But everyone’s got to have that settle down period, right?”
