i need good omens fans to be real. whether he wrote the finale or didn't, good omens is still and will always belong to that man and terry pratchett. it is completely delusional to try and make yourself more comfortable with the material by trying to erase him. they are still his characters. just stand on business if you are going to watch/participate in engaging with this special/movie/whatever. you're watching it because you want to, end of, you don't need to morally posture and say "well actually im gonna pirate so he won't get anything" or "im watching but i dont support him." you still will, that's just the facts. the show shouldnt have moved paat season 1 anyway, he 100% took advantage of fan adoration and frankly, worship, and squeezed out a terrible second season. and to be brutally honest, the way a lot of you reacted to finding out the horrible things he had been accused of was so appalling that it should have been cancelled full stop because you didn't deserve it.

Sometimes I struggle to post on this account since talking about this feels like repeating the same thing over and over again.

But...I mean I don't even know how to start this post. Georgia jests she wants a show to watch on her own (heaven forbid a working mother of five needs that), and Amy says she's controlling. Once again, I think it's becoming my motto as one of the admins here: YOU DON'T KNOW THEM PERSONALLY.

Also, what about watching Queer as Folk? He mentioned watching it to RTD, during his podcast. As far as I know, David watched queer media, and he didn't hide from it, neither did Georgia. I especially have in mind that non-binary author David and Georgia supported by attending their book opening!

And about that last comment.... I don't even know what to say. Georgia barely mentions she's watching Heated Rivalry and bam-

As a "Georgia Stan", watching Heated Rivalry as a straight woman isn't fetishising them. However reducing that show to gay sex, ignoring the issues it address, or rejecting the community it's for, is fetishising them.

I have no idea how to reply to that other than the simplest thing:

She does not know these people. Michael has spoken out about having a crush on some boys when younger, he might be queer, yes! And growing up under Thatcher's fist must have been damaging for tons of reasons, especially for queer people, and indeed scarring. Amy is absolutely right about that.

But the later paragraphs... She does not know these people.

David explicitly stated he was straight. Michael didn't mention anything more than those crush he had, and seems very happy with his current partner. Why on earth is she talking about their mental state like she is their therapist?

Let's not invent traumas or "scarrings" about people we do not know. David and Michael are both grown adults, who tell us what they want, and what they want to share only.

Before agreeing with any of her posts, let's take a step back and all agree on something...

i wanted to avoid rbing this because i don't want to spread it around and unintentionally give antis more fuel, but i'm seeing a lot of people being very despondent in the comments, and i just want to stress a few points.

the first: you will never, ever get a straight and honest answer about shipping in an interview, especially when it's a noncanon ship. if they were to confirm that ghoulcy does become canon, that would be a massive spoiler, and you can rest assured that the entire cast has been extensively media trained on how to avoid giving anything away.

the second: ella famously kind of hates all of her ships, lol - either that or she doesn't "get it". when she was doing yellowjackets promo, she would pretty much constantly refer to jackie and shauna as just being friends. aaron stated he knows how max's story in particular ends, but she's admitted herself that she doesn't really know what's in store for fallout in the future, and she's probably not the type of person to "get into" prospective ships if they're not explicitly canon, and that's okay! you never need an actor's approval to ship anything, which goes into...

the third: ghoulcy is probably never going to become canonically romantic, and that's okay. a ship doesn't have to be canon for you to enjoy it, and there's a wealth of fanmade material and a wonderful, thriving community. while the chance of them becoming canon isn't zero, it's still not very likely, but that should never dissuade you from shipping something that you love.

it's been 79 years and i'm still pissed off about "rose would know" as a deliberate insult to martha, partly because of fandom's reaction to it treating it like it was somehow true but it's not is it? rose wouldn't know. she'd ask a basic question or say something unrelated and then from that, possibly via some weird tangent, the doctor would work out the plot because he happened to know some fact that would make the plot click together.

rose had been there two years when she left, i think she'd worked out by that point that this was basically her job on the tardis. ask something about the plot that's much more basic than whatever the doctor will be thinking about or mention some normal everyday thing he'll have forgotten the existence of, like mothers or spoons. if completely stuck then say a random sentence like "i can smell chips" (i'm not even making that one up) and BEHOLD! suddenly, plot!

expecting martha to know to ask a daft question so early on is unfair, and it's a lot more unfair to imply that it wouldn't be a daft question but some really clever or insightful comment that rose would be expected to supply at this moment. martha doesn't know she's a doctor who companion because she's barely being treated like one and will need time to adapt to this new career. saying "rose would know" is a lie and martha doesn't know in what way it's a lie (she has at this point known the doctor for several hours, she'll have worked out that there are lies involved just not how many and what kind of thing they'll be about).

blaming rusted davros and paul cornball for the amount of people denying joan redfern's racism. you lot are so STUPID and naive. just because she's not calling martha jones filth like jeremy baines doesn't make her not racially prejudiced. almost every character in this story bar tim latimer and jenny are racism. she told martha to "remember her position" because of her 'familiarity' with 'john smith.'

this isn't just joan telling her to remember she is just the maid, she's telling her she is a black maid therefore her behaviour is innapropriate on more than just a domestic level. she told her it wasn't believable for martha to be studying to be a doctor because of the colour of her skin. she states it plainly and with no embarassment. because for joan, it's a simple fact. they were still touting the belief that black people's skulls were not as developed as a white person at this point in history.

joan redfern is explicitly said to have lost her husband in the boer wars. google that war. a war fought over land the british thought they were entitled to because of their own superiority complex and racial supremacy. a war that coined the phrase 'concentration camp.'

im sure this all went over most of your heads due to the amount of sympathy and weight the story gives to her. it's almost laughable how we are also supposed to believe she has changed in terms of this because she starts to listen to martha in the latter half of 'the family of blood' like that fixes it. it's not good enough. it is not FAIR but because joan is posh and soft spoken she can't be that bad right? the bar constantly fall shorts when it comes to handling martha in this story with the best example of ineptitude being the constant references to john being 'kind' to martha and the headmaster calling her his 'favourite maid' despite john showing zero kindness or special treatment literally ever. you tell us we are supposed to think a certain way and flop because you don't actually do it.

doctor who can be a very clever show but in this case it is completely out of its depth because i KNOW they were trying to give joan nuance by portraying her as someone of the time. but they simply do not have the range. they don't have any trouble when it comes to showing the futility of war when it comes to rocastle, or the anguishing nature of raising students like jeremy baines who think they are king of the world, who spit on those they think are beneath them, but draw up their knees like the children they are in the face of danger.

It truly boggles my mind the way that Tinhatters talk about David and Michael’s supposed (David and Michael don’t do this it’s disgusting, misogynistic fantasy) actions towards their partners “oh they don’t like them, they talk shit about them they’re having an affair” etc etc as if it would be Georgia and Anna’s fault, and NOT a complete and utter failure on the part of David or Michael. When talking about what would be cheating and spousal neglect, it’s not something that’s framed in a negative way, they think that it’s actually a good thing. It reminds me of manosphere content in a way. Georgia can’t even spend time with her friends without people vilifying her and saying she must be cheating, but apparently David and Michael are secretly sleeping together and soulmates and that’s fine?

PLEASE let this man at least WRITE for Doctor Who, even if you won't let him run it! He's a great writer and he'd be a REALLY good fit for the show!

I've not seen as much of his TV work as I'd like (getting to it!) but I've read some of his comics and if his run on The Amazing Spider-Man back in the early-to-mid 2000's is anything to go by, I think he'd find a really cool new take on the show without necessarily needing to rewrite any of its lore (which there's been a little too much of recently). But I think he'd stay true to the characters while doing it. He injected his Spider-Man comics with this great, quirky sense of humour that kept things light without ever detracting from the stakes of the story, which I also think would be a really good fit for the show.

Also, he's a real anglophile (he must be if he's actually heard of UFO! I don't even know that many BRITS who know what that show is!) and from what I can tell of American fans, they seem to love Doctor Who not in spite of its quintessential Britishness, but BECAUSE of it, so I don't think we would have anything to fear from putting an American in charge of the show (especially one with a UK Visa now).

Oh - and he's worked with Freema Agyeman before, on Sense8. So if you're a Martha fan and you're still hoping for a return, you never know...!

I'd be THRILLED to see J. Michael Straczynski become showrunner of Doctor Who. They could certainly do A LOT worse (and arguably have)!

Can I just say something I noticed? Is Martha Jones special for the show or is she only special for fans? Yes, she was necessary at some point, but is she special? Regardless of Rose Tyler, of the timing or the lack of black writers in the room, the truth is the Doctor was never meant to give that much care about Martha. There are plenty of situations with Martha in which the Doctor wouldn’t have been so insensitive if Rose or Donna were in her place, he even showed much more care for the Master than Martha’s safety and family, I can’t see the Tenth Doctor begging the Master to stay with him had the Master hurt a Tyler or a Noble, he even called these two the Doctor’s families. All those lovely contents about Ten and Martha relationship’s are mostly EU or written by different people. Ten and Martha are fictional characters created by Russell, he making the Doctor put an old companion above Martha during her own era and choosing to not mention her at all in this new era means not only himself but also his doctors did not value or loved her as they should and could. Moffat’s companions were mentioned in the special, we’ve got a Yaz/Thasmin salut, Rose Tyler was mentioned (and now Billie Piper is back somehow), Donna Noble was brought back and got her own Doctor (just like Rose Tyler), he brought back companions and relationships from Classic Era, and where’s Martha? She doesn’t even get a mention, so what does she mean to the Doctor and to the show? She was barely mentioned by previous any writer. She was always the easiest companion to bring back. But neither RTD, Chibnall and not even Moffat has shown interest in bring her back. That pissed me off honestly

for real like is RTD embarrassed about how he treated her? does he just not care? it's so glaring that in his second run he's brought back or referenced every character...except martha...

I enjoyed Rose Tyler in the first series (and still do), the second I found/still find her character insufferable, and I hate how even after she was gone, she loomed over the narrative, at the detriment of Donna and Martha. Then she came back, and ended up with her own Doctor, left to have her happy ending on Pete's World. And it wasn't enough to leave it there.

After all these years, RTD cannot let go of his Rose obsession. No offence to Billie Piper, who I really like and is a fantastic actress, but I'm just angry especially for Varada Sethu (Belinda Chandra), who got shafted and shoved to the back, and Ncuti Gatwa (Fifteen), who deserved better and more episodes, considering the paltry length of both his series too.

Also, heartbroken that, as much as I loved Donna returning and getting her memories back (she's my favourite), Martha did not get ONE single mention at all this new series, not even by Fourteen (a point of contention too now we've had both Tennant and Piper back in major roles). The woman who IMO, had the worst time as a companion with Ten, and faced untold hardships but still stood by The Doctor in spite of it all. Like the writing just shows how unimportant and insignificant RTD finds her (even with Project Indigo!); and now history repeats itself with Belinda; after all this time, he's not learnt his lesson and it sucks. As someone who rewatches your first run a lot, do better, RTD. There's no excuse.
