Oh, if only Sebastian were a stronger man.

The sound of his partner's name is like a stab to the chest, sharp and painful like nothing else. All the guilt he's carried centres inside of him, twisting his insides, and he's not stoic enough to pretend like the sound of Joseph's name doesn't make him miserable.

Joseph. Christ.

"...you're bluffing."

And Sebastian's grasping at straws, God, but there's no way Kidman failed to get him back. There's absolutely no way.

"Sebastian.. you know who your dealing with. It would be a shame if a certain little girl's father never came home now..wouldn't it?"

"That doesn't explain how you fucking found me."

Canada with Lily was supposed to be safe. Kidman said she'd take care of it. With the Administrator being here, did that mean she failed?

Sebastian steels his tongue. It's best not to lose himself in what-if scenarios just yet.

Funny fucking words for a guy who reported him to Internal Affairs.

The unintentional bitterness wells up in Sebastian like a disease, sick and festering and reeking of betrayal ever since the interviewing agent told him who was concerned about him enough to warrant a report. Now isn’t the time, though, and Sebastian knows it-- Joseph’s nose is bloody, and he’s been around these monsters long enough to know the scent alone is cause for their brief safe space to be invaded.

“Yeah, well,” Sebastian ends up saying instead, “I’m not going anywhere.”

He can’t seem to meet Joseph’s gaze, not even when he holds his handkerchief out in his partner’s direction. But the sincerity in his eyes had made him ache something terrible, and Sebastian’s tired of all the bittersweet in his life.

“Clean yourself up, see if that faucet works.” Sebastian’s revolver clicks, his bullets checked and locked in. “I’ll check the rest of the house and make sure there isn’t anything in here with us.

“Maybe rest’ll do you good.”

Owen didn’t mean to throw the other off-guard and really hoped he didn’t overstep any boundaries with the other. A smile crosses his lips as he nods. “Must be a single father thing, I was the same way when I first moved here with my son.”

He motions with his head. “I’ll be glad to help you unpack, if you’d like.”

“What, someone as busy as you?”

He’s no idiot. He knows the sort of work Owen does, knows just how much it means to the city. Frankly he’s still surprised the man’s willing to spend as much time with him as he does-- neighbours hadn’t ever been as kind as Owen is back in Krimson City.

Sebastian smiles all the same, though, nodding. “I’d appreciate that.

“How about we put helping me unpack on the same day as dinner?”

Joseph’s heart clenches in his chest and he exudes a fractured sigh when he feels the delicate touch along his jawline. He almost wants to fight he push to tilt his head up as looking at Sebastian just yet would be too much for him to bear. And yet he goes with it all the same. He knows that he can’t give any indication that the shared kiss had affected him so greatly. If anything was going to ruin their friendship, it would be his feelings becoming known, wouldn’t it?

He does his best to look unaffected, willing a stoicism into his features, but the moment he meets Sebastian’s gaze, he almost forgets all of the worries. It takes him speaking up again for Joseph to realize this wasn’t because Sebastian reciprocates his feelings. This was solely done because Joseph would have gotten them caught and killed.

It was entirely to shut Joseph up.

There was a twinkle of heartbreak in his eyes as he recalled why they had shared the kiss, but he swallows it, just as he has all those years.

“Yes, I believe it should,” he murmurs, wishing he could look away once more without raising any suspicions. “I suppose I owe you my thanks for… for keeping us safe.”

Logically, he knows he should forget the way it felt to finally share a kiss with Sebastian. There could be no good to come from it when the other hasn’t so much as acknowledged any feelings to another man, let alone anyone that wasn’t Myra.

Though, the ghost of the feeling of his slightly chapped lips from lack of self care and his thick tongue licking into his mouth are memories he knows he won’t easily be able to let go of.

“No,” Sebastian mutters, “you really shouldn’t.”

The sound of Joseph’s voice only confirms what a bad idea it’d been. But talking to him hadn’t worked, and Sebastian didn’t want to hurt him any more than shaking him would cause, and now--

Well. Now he’s gone and fucked their friendship up forever, he realises.

So, despite his inability to meet Joseph’s eyes, Sebastian stares at a nondescript portion of decrepit wall and says, “...I’m sorry.”

Owen’s on his knees, looking up at Sebastian. Owen grins at him before leaning up and pressing a soft kiss on the other’s thigh. He places his hands on the other’s upper thighs as he continues to press kisses up and down his thighs.

It takes everything in him not to grab Owen by the hair and force his head where he wants it.

Each kiss sends thrills of anticipation nevertheless, no matter how chaste they are. Propped up on his elbows as he is, Sebastian swallows thickly as he watches Owen’s pink lips trail over his skin, fingers curling lightly into the sheets.

He huffs through his nose as a kiss comes dangerously close to his half-hard dick. That turns into a little growl when Owen pointedly avoids it to kiss everywhere else.

“Damn it--”

Oh, Sebastian hates waiting.

A knock at the door, and upon opening, is a bouquet of red roses and a bottle of expensive whiskey. There is no message on the card other than two letters, "A.W."

For a moment, Sebastian considers a mistaken address. Much as the whiskey interests him-- a Bunnahabhain? He's not drunk that stuff in years-- the thought of anyone getting him anything fancy like that is so bewildering it's almost humorous.

He sees the handwriting, though. The neatness of it. He sees it and remembers sticky notes and other errant writing in the margins of pages Sebastian's sent to the coroner's for confirming the right information, and just like that it coaxes a faintly amused smile out of him.

Don't get used to it, Xander had told him once as far as special treatment had been concerned. Sebastian had chuckled at the time and promised he wouldn't.

Now, though, he turns the bottle of terribly expensive whiskey in his hand and tries to figure out a way to get Xander to drink it with him.

By the time he leaves his flat for work, he's cut the leaves off the roses and left them in a vase by his window. It's the first time in a long time the plant he's been caring for has had company, and he imagines it's all the better for it.

Lucas hated trials over custody, to hear what abuse or neglect a child faced in the hands of those meant to keep them safe was upsetting to say the least. It reminded him of his home life, he tried to keep such memories suppressed as he adjourned the court. Free for the next handful of hours he elected food and coffee were required, he had a meeting with a few lawyers later discussing a murder trial. As he entered the cafe he ordered his food and drink keeping himself away from the growing crowd, with both in hand he found a table in the sun. Though his courtroom had two larger windows the rays hit the audience leaving him in the chilling shadows.

It was about then he heard his formal title, glancing away from the park across the street he saw the case worker. Sebastian if he wasn’t wrong, “Sebastian- Lucas please,” they were not in a courtroom and he hated formalities outside of it. Seeing the offered dear he takes it with a grateful smile, a meal alone was not his favorite, so he didn’t mind sharing it with company. “Heavy day,” he offered referencing the case, “I hope you have something to look forward to after this. You have a daughter correct?” he tried to get to know the people in his court. He had heard Sebastian discussing a daughter with one of the bailiffs, “She in school today?”

To both his parents dismay he hadn’t found someone to share an experience like a child with. He didn’t mind, just starting his career he was much too focused on that to need to also be starting a family.

The question of his daughter surprises him some, but the topic of Lily is simple. Sebastian doesn’t even have to think to smile at the sound of her name.

“Yeah, she’s in school,” he admits, thumb brushing absently at the side of his coffee cup. “I hate to be one of those dads without any hobbies, but uh...” He laughs a bit, rubbing at the side of his neck. “I suppose it is what it is.”

He’s only been in Silent Hill a few months. Routine hasn’t really settled, and most of Sebastian’s days are still outlined to a T in a planner he keeps with him. Everyday he still worries something’s going to happen and he and Lily are going to have to run away again, and it makes it difficult to want to start a thousand-plus piece jigsaw puzzle fearing he won’t be able to finish it.

“It’s too bad I don’t have time to nap before having to pick her up.” Hence the coffee, which he drinks out of in punctuation.

“How about you? Full schedule today?” Considering the trial they’d been in, a part of him sympathises with whatever it is Maze has to go through. “Or did they set you free too?”

Three times.

Three times Sebastian had asked Adam if he was sure, because the man wasn’t necessarily in the right state to say shit like kiss me and Sebastian sure as hell wasn’t the right person to kiss him. But the man had taunted him by the third time, implied Sebastian was a coward, and by then all thoughts of professionalism and logic went out the window because of stubbornness.

And now Sebastian’s head hurts because he’d hit it on the ceiling of the car in his attempt to clamber into the backseat.

This wasn’t in the job description, he knows. Using a hand to pin Adam down by the hip, using the other to hike the superstar’s leg up and wrap around him-- this isn’t the sort of shit a bodyguard’s meant to do, not outside cheesy fiction.

And still Sebastian takes Adam’s mouth. And still he thinks the man delicious and warm when a swipe of his tongue has Adam’s lips parting for him instantly.

I’m going to be fired, he thinks absently.

It doesn’t stop him from pressing their tongues together, nor does it stop him from bringing his free hand up to card through Adam’s hair so he can pull it a little.

God, it’s been ages since he’s kissed anybody.
