Not an anti, for the last time, We're not an anti!
@huntypastellance
âaverage pastel lance sends 3 love posts a day" factoid actualy (sic) just statistical error. average pastel lance sends only 3 HATE posts a day. huntypastellance, who lives in cave & sends over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Now the fandom is dead. Who was the worst person you dealt with for drama? What was the worst overall drama? And did anyone redeem themselves?
Worst: in terms of drama, it would be v0rgtron (the people who harassed Karen Lance & VLD voice actors nonstop) & the anti who penned the Klible. In terms of actual damage caused, it would probably be the ones who dragged completely innocent bystanders (kids, classmates, pride parade, etc.) into the discourse nonsense by taking photos/videos of them & posting them online with pro-k/ance & anti-she1th stuff.
Honestly, I donât think anybody redeemed themselves (except ironically the author of the Dirty Laundry fic - short history lesson: they wrote the most infamous/popular K/ance fic, got trashed by the fandom [ironically mostly k/ance fans were involved in defaming the author], so they took a break from the fandom & came back just to replace the entire fic with the Bee Movie script as a fuck you to them since AO3 wouldnât let it be deleted).
Mostly, both sides of the pro-anti VLD fandom just exposed more & more of their ugliness/hypocrisy* (like zillabeanâs deranged rants about how Straight Shiro was cosmically important to her as her dream husbando & certain tumblr klantis diving into works like Devilman Crybaby with no moral dilemmas whatsoever, etc.).
*Yeah, Weâre not exempt from this either. We are fully aware that We made a lot of fuck-ups with this blog & some of Our, well, rants about VLDâs writing were seriously off at times.
An anti, (who COULD have been underaged), continued to speak to me in the DMs, even mentioning their relationship status to me, an ADULT!!
I had to do it. I had to block them for their own good.
What if the conversation became inappropriate? What if I said âfuck offâ to them & they took it as sexual harassment? What if I tricked into doxxing themselves like the last underaged anti I spoke to???
It was too dangerous, so I went ahead & hit the block button first because I have better things to do than to DM someone at 1 AM in the morning to insult them.
What on earth is the context for you header? I recognize it as a kink meme and the words yoi and vontron but that's it tbh....
The context for it is that there was an online multi-fandom roleplay community on dreamwidth.org that was set in a sci-fi setting. (Eluvio from 2017).
Basically, X character from Y canon suddenly found themselves on a spaceship & they were given missions by the native aliens to do whatever on the planets the ship was traveling to.
The community was super popular & quickly hit max capacity in terms of characters it could handle. And then this went down:
The mods: uhhh well we didnât expect that so many people would put underaged characters in a horror sci-fi survival setting. so now that youâve joined after writing up a whole application & spending 2 months having your character interact with other players, weâre putting restrictions in.
The players: wait what
The mods: from now on, thereâs going to be a cap on how many underaged characters can join the game and they canât be allowed in the red light district or on military missions. we want a MATURE game, not one thatâs filled with children.
The players: wait WHY???
The mods: our NPC aliens feel very strongly against child soldiers & inappropriate activities. also itâs more realistic, mature & goes in line with OUR vision & plot.
The players: well what if our character tried to bribe or blackmail them?
The mods: NO. NO FLEXIBILITY HERE. I DONâT CARE IF YOU HEADCANON LANCE TO BE A MONTH AWAY FROM 18, HE WILL START OUT AS 17 & 0 MONTHS* & YOU WILL HAVE TO PLAY FOR A WHOLE YEAR BEFORE HE IS ALLOWED ON SPACE MISSIONS. WE & OUR NPCS ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH 17 YEAR OLD CHILD SOLDIERS!!! (but weâre comfortable enough to let them in for like 2 whole months just to pad out our game i guess)
And this....led to a lot of issues. Now only the characters from Yuri On Ice or Osomatsu-san were allowed to carry out sci-fi black ops missions while Voltron characters like Pidge, Lance, Hunk & Keith (before his age reveal in the guidebook), Naruto Shippuden characters, Attack on Titan characters & even The Walking Dead characters were forced to sit in the metaphorical McDonaldâs play place. Some players argued for a suitability meter where underaged characters with experience in combat/military/tech would be given a pass, but that was shot down.Â
*Characters who didnât have canon ages & thus their players just picked a number that seemed close - well, their ages would now be treated as CANON & therefore if you picked 17 & put that in your game application & your canon timepoint never mentioned a birthday coming up or passing, your character now started at 17 years & 0 months no matter what.
Also yes, the Dangan Ronpa 2 players asked how this would affect them since they were playing from the game so they had âcharacters who arenât 18+ yet but are technically irl because theyâre just virtual avatarsâ. The mods never responded.
There was a lot of mockery going on in the anon forums about the mods, with some people who defended the mods (ranging from ânothing about the rules says that future events will be mature & younger characters canât join themâ to âyeah fuck the anime players! i donât want my grizzled 30+ year sergeant dealing with some bratty anime teen!â).
And thus, the responses below it became Our header.
And then the mods put up this poll:
âa) do what we say BUT we raise the character cap a little for underaged characters
b) do what we say
c) weâre shutting the whole game down because you wonât obey usâ
Most players voted for option A, but the mods shut down the game anyway, claiming that they ârespectedâ the players so much & thatâs why they were doing it. And then everybody lost faith in them, even their defenders.
YUP.
We found this whole scenario to be uncannily similar to how arbitrary & ridiculous the standards & excuses made by voltron antis were. In Our opinion, itâs still uncanny, even to this day. (Even down to the fact that people were also rallying to make a new Eluvio but then nothing came of it.)
this person reposted my art, started insulting plance shippers and claimed plance as a âpedophilicâ ship. Thankfully they havenât reposted any other art from other artists.
I cannot believe this. Just when I thought I could back into the vld fandom, this happens.
Please report this person!
(note: I know klance shippers are not that toxic, some are pretty nice and friendly! But this is just showing the bad side of obsessive shipping).
Do you know of any antis who have had actual legal repercussions from what theyâve done?
As far as I can tell, no.
Absolutely zero antis have faced legal repercussions for anything theyâve done.
The McHanzo zine is still going through the legal processes (if you havenât heard of that one, basically the person in charge of the zine & all monetary aspects of it was a Voltron klanti & she jacked around $1.4k of the proceeds for her own personal use - which was mostly Lance fan merch. The money was SUPPOSED to go to charity & she ghosted everyone after that happened & the resulting zine product was incredibly subpar-looking.) but I havenât heard any updates on that one yet.
It looks like the 4th volume of the vld comics by lionforge was cancelled (article is by geekdad). It's possible that onipress buying it had something to do with it, but I think it's also because the negative feedback the news received when they first announced it
That sucks for the people who were supposed to work on it, but content-wise, I donât think the fandom or the canon is going to miss much. The VLD comics have been all filler so far.Â
Itâs possible we MIGHT have gotten some content regarding Shiroâs sexuality and his romantic relationships (since thereâs more leeway in comics to put that kinda stuff in), but considering how devoid all 3 books have been regarding worldbuilding & character development, I doubt that.
The most interesting part from the comics was Hunk being advised/comforted by Lance, since the show, for the most part, didnât really expand on or show them actually being best friends (just the two of them I mean. There were a lot of Garrison trio moments, but no âHunk & Lance have a sincere heart to heartâ only moments.)
I donât really enjoy defending the Voltron dev team because I think thereâs a lot to be rightfully critical of, but the catch-22 they were in with Shiro is so obvious.
S7 production: they donât know if theyâre gonna be able to air the gay version of the Shiro and Adam scene or the Good Pals one almost until the show actually drops. ~Anonymous source~ aside, this is proven by the fact that alternate hetero subtitles were accidentally left in when the season dropped. I donât know how everyoneâs passing around that article with HAH I KNEW THEY LIED when multiple VAs stated that it was a struggle getting Shiroâs sexuality approved and we have actual, physical evidence of a hetero version of that scene existing, corroborated by the VA who participated in it? Is everyone so desperate for grudgewank that we forgot that happened?
S7 production: because they donât know whatâs gonna be allowed, the rest of S7 cannot be written with Shiro and Adam as explicit lovers. All of Voltronâs episodes drop at onceâthereâs no such thing as âok weâll see what the reaction is and then weâll adjust the rest of the season from thereâ. So they killed off Adam to avoid the Schrodingerâs homo situation that had inadvertently been created. Voltron was produced at breakneck fucking speed and they didnât have the time or resources to animate two different scenes banking that Shiro/Adam would be okayed. From a position of unknowns, hedging their bets and killing Adam was the best choice. They could even squeeze some extra drama out of his death for Shiro, who notoriously had absolutely nothing to do in the plot by this point because he did not exist in the initial draft. His mourning Adam was incredibly tiny, but without it he had literally fucking nothing written.
S8 production: well, fuck. The good news is, they got to make Shiro/Adam explicit. The bad news is, they hadnât planned this far ahead. The writers struggled continuously with integrating Shiro into the story arcs after his planned death, and the Adam situation was only the latest chapter. The fandom had hyped themselves into a frenzy with the canon gay reveal, and then driven themselves into a berserker rage with Adamâs death, erroneously accusing the writers of Bury Your Gays even though Shiro was very much alive.
S8 production: so now what?
That shitty article declares the wedding should have been cut, but come the fuck on. Have a little respect for my intelligence. You and me both know that if the wedding had been cut, the fan rage would have been fucking NUCLEAR.Â
In the alternate universe where they didnât make that wedding epilogue, that same writer would be pounding out another article about how Lauren and Joachim LITERALLY gay-bashed him by not giving Shiro a boyfriend after killing his last one. Theyâd be accused of trying to un-gay Shiro. Theyâd be accused of implicitly saying that it wasnât acceptable to have a gay character in a childrenâs cartoon. It would have gone on and on and on, burning any goodwill they accumulated with the Adam reveal and far deeper besides.
Shiro needed to have a canon gay relationship to allay accusations of homophobia. Problem is, S7 dropped when S8 was already mostly done. It wasnât possible to rewrite the whole season to shove a natural, organic romance in there. Fuck, guys, they couldnât even figure out what to do with Shiro at all for three whole seasons before that! They werenât gonna suddenly pull a rabbit out of their collective hats with this. It was never possible.
The only option was shoving Shiro with a minor character and scattering a handful of scenes of them glancing at one another throughout S8. Was it a shitty option? Yes. Was it the least bad of what was on the table in front of them by that point? Also yes, because do you not remember the sheer toxicity of Voltronâs shipwank or what? Shiro never could have had a ârealistically developed relationshipâ at all because he would never have been allowed a relationship with a main character after the ugly, abusive nature of the fandom revealed itself.
So.
A relationship (an undeniable, unambiguous one) had to happen.
It could not happen with a major character.
Marriage (the fastest way to render a relationship completely unambiguous) to a minor character (all members of Team Voltron were aggressively off the table) was the only possible solution.
It sucks that this is how it ended up and that it was so unsatisfying and that they werenât able to write themselves out of the corner they ended up in, but Voltronâs writing was consistently mediocre. They never had the tools to solve this problem. Fan expectations were never possible to satisfy, and the fact that 20,000+ people are still passing around obvious salty falsehoods for an excuse to further vilify the showrunners six months after the fact should make that obvious.
ive never watched an episode of voltron in my life but i jus read an article about how joaquim dos santos and lauren montgomery explicitly lied to press about their involvement in the failure of voltron and that they were singlehandedly responsible for the homophobic writing and ending and went out of their way to ignore the comments of both their hired sensitivity consultants and lgbt employees and im SCREAMING
> Despite claiming the showâs staff were âchampions of inclusivity and acceptance,â and having multiple resources within the studio to tell an inclusive story, showrunners Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery failed to follow even the most basic best practices for depicting minorities during their tenure at DreamWorks.
What were these best practices?
> At the same time, the studio ignored warnings from LGBT individuals that Voltronâs story
Are âwarnings from LGBT individualsâ fan opinions?
> Gay fans have spoken on how the ending of Voltron sent a clear hurtful message
Yes.
> The loss of the sole gay male hero in western animation was a devastating blow for queer fans
Misleading personal opinion, heâs not dead.
> as though they were far more interested in getting the credit for a gay wedding
Speculation treated as fact.
> the studio acknowledged they had multiple gay writers on staff for other shows, any of whom could have easily been called in to consult.
Is there any proof thatâs a normal, common thing to do? Projects are generally pretty self-contained. Even later in the article itself it says that unrelated writers stepping up is unusual and unreliable.
> The answer, unfortunately, appears to be simple arrogance.
Speculation treated as fact.
> A source familiar with the events confirmed to GeekDad that the two straight showrunners wrote the the ending without involving the people they claimed to represent, or their own diversity consultant, in the process. Ultimately, when Dos Santos and Montgomery set off to depict the first gay male wedding in western animation, they chased their own ephemeral idea of âwhatâs good for gay people,â instead of actually speaking to gay people.
They offer no direct quotation from this mystery source. The second sentence is, again, speculation treated as fact. If you follow the link to the other article, whatâs actually said about the diversity consultant is âa diversity consultant that productions work with from time to timeâ, which sounds a lot more like someone who isnât available all the time. Noelleâs interview also does not say that she involves the people she claims to represent; what she gives is a standard response about being thoughtful and respectful.
Incidentally, thisâthe âhard evidenceâ, the thing the title of the article is aboutâis the ninth paragraph in. It is vaguely defined (what is a diversity consultant, what power do they have, what qualifications do they have, and what could they have done? That information isnât here), poorly contextualized, and lacks any kind of direct quotation.
> Despite their failure to do basic review
Article has failed to establish both what basic review is and that the failure happened.
> still months before the final season would air
Itâs weird how people are critical of crunch culture these days but also demanding that an entire TV season be reanimated in two months.
> hurtful epilogue
> prevent the gay hero from retiring
> injurious to the queer community
This is all personal opinion and salt and anger that the writerâs personal interpretation didnât make it to the screen. And christ, injurious? Really? Really? Thatâs the biggest threat to the queer community these days, one character in a shitty Netflix cartoon getting married too fast?
> saw its approval rating tumble into single digits on Rotten Tomatoes
So did The Last Jedi.
This whole article is a slanted opinion piece that offers no evidence to support itself except an anonymous source that it wonât quote in any way, shape, or form, but totally proves that several people on-record with their names attached to public statements are lying. This is only half a step above actual fan fiction.
Hell, even the linking OP text contains the clear lie that âthey ignored comments from the consultantâ when the article asserts that the diversity consultant was not specifically seeked out. 26,000 notes and none of you noticed that?
so far I've found good takedowns of Sean Z's wishywashyness with twitter users jujujulieta and invalid4041, but a follower has reblogged some post from a user "agoddamn" if you're interested in seeing the dissections of Sean not giving true sources
Thanks for letting Us know! Weâve checked them out & while We donât agree with all of them, there are a lot of valid points. (Reblogging some in 3....2....1)
In more "whodunit" discourse on the epilogue, the latest GeekDad article cites some cryptic anonymous sources for proof WEP was never a meddler but it was DW and the EPs' fault for everything. There seems to be no middle ground for the idea that all parties had their own shite decisions and contributions, to whatever extent from each of them. And it seems those official parties want to point their fingers at each other in a big standoff.
Oh Sean Z, couldnât you have at least included actual sources? You did it for the anti article we collabed together on! (Granted, I did provide a lot of sources & archived links, so that might be it......) ._.
Anyway, yeah, itâs everyoneâs fault here.
JDS & LM had all these âgrandâ ideas for their show (for both rep &Â âcool stuffâ) on a massive scale & wanted to go edgy as fuck without thinking how it would impact the seriesâ tone & future plot/character developments.
Both writers & editors for seasons 1 & 2 didnât build a strong enough foundation to support all of that.
Writers & editors for seasons 3 onwards continued to weaken their own foundation & lore with unnecessary timeskips, LM & JDSâs contradictory ideas & subplots (or even repeated subplots).
Comic writers failed to even try to explore these stunted/restricted ideas in the books, which have much more leeway (considering that Korrasami was able to be confirmed officially within the actual comics & not just through Word of God afterwards).
Dreamworksâ press team then hyped everything up like crazy, even when things werenât confirmed yet (like those freaking romance-novel-esque promos of Keith, Shiro & Adam).
And then the Dreamworks higher-ups okayed all of this & put weird restrictions like âno flashbacksâ or âtoilet humor for Hunkâ*.
*(Note that no articles have come out contesting these restrictions - just ones criticizing the Shiro/Adam restriction & the gay wedding epilogue).
I think, that like the fandom, people working on the show were more invested in the vague grand concepts behind the characters rather than actually exploring that.
In a future post, I will ramble on about my own thoughts of VLDâs overall writing & how Alluraâs death was inevitable considering the direction of the writing.
If youâve been in the she1thdom for a while now & have followed popular she1th accounts, youâll have noticed them occasionally posting something.....weird.
Posts vaguely complaining about a certain unnamed person who seems to despise the she1th fandom, use it for profit & doing all sorts of unsavory things behind the scenes in private DMs & discord servers.....
That person is Lee CA (Glossolalia on ao3), writer of those 2 fics that have invaded every she1th fanâs dash at some point in time (âAlien Sex Fiendâ &Â âPicosecondâ).
Heâs the Cassandra Clare of the VLD fandom if CC had been caught being a creep & not just being a manipulative egotistical plagiarist obsessed with marketing.
Lee CA is about as much of a she1th fan as the infamous anti klanced is -- they ONLY care about it as a tool to boost their own popularity & will spend endless amounts of time bashing she1thers.
Thereâs a lot of posts about his whole sexual exploitation of naive minors & the whole thing blew up late February of 2019, but Weâre here to talk about Leeâs entire history. (Notes: there will be some sources, but a lot of this is really old stuff or stuff only mentioned in private servers, so theyâve been lost to the sands of time or are just things heard through the grapevine.)
To preface all of this: NOBODY saw any of this coming. At worst, Lee was a narcissistic plagiarist high off the fumes of his own success, but his attitude at no point gave off any signs that he would exploit minors in that way. (Exploiting them for profit, though - thatâs basically his whole shtick).
Lee was/is a very popular writer in the she1thdom (with fandom picking up the fanon âShiro calls Keith âcherrybombââ from his fics) & would charge professional rates for his works on his patreon, raking in around $1300 to $1600 PER MONTH for almost 2 YEARS on she1th fics alone (that isnât counting his commissions either: he charges $125 for a 5000 word fic, $150 for a fic with porn). If he doesnât hit his goal of $1600 a month, well, thatâs clearly YOUR problem for not sponsoring him enough, not his.
Yeah, sure you could save $25 for the porn-free version, but reading a Lee work without any smut is like trying to eat a bowl of nails without any milk in it.
And then he would bitch & moan in DMs to other she1th creators about how âdisgustingly underpaid he wasâ, âhow ungrateful [she1th fans] areâ or whine in she1th discords until his sympathizers ponied up enough money to pay him for another commission. Hell, he even admitted to MANY she1thers that he didnât care about she1th, he didnât like she1th & he was FURIOUS that how DARE not all his she1th fans were eager to throw their money at his original works (which forced him to go back to writing for she1th, even though he literally quit his dayjob to write fanfics full-time).
âGruelingly underpaidâ is apparently âprofessional rates for writingâ so maybe Leeâs making a statement about the writing industry. Or maybe heâs just a dick.
As an ex-supporter of his patreon, We can tell you just how horrible his tiers are. And how tiring his whole gimmick of âIâm that edgy she1th writer! Sex workers! Drugs! Alcoholism! Cheating! Keith & Shiro hating each other but having sex! Christianity is evil & homophobic! -obligatory mention of Gucci because Iâm trying to insert subliminal messages in my works to get my readers to buy me stuff!-â quickly got.
Essentially youâd have to pay $10Â per month to see anything that wasnât basically stuff youâd see on his twitter feed or tumblr. (âPay me $5 a month & Iâll post my notes & let you know what Iâm up to!â).
You also had to pay for updates to his she1th fic âPicosecondâ if you wanted him to update at a speed faster than â1 chapter every 2-3 monthsâ -- which is already stupid since itâs his fic, but if youâre unlucky & you âdidnât pay him enoughâ, heâd mention it on the post update that itâs YOUR fault that this chapter wasnât longer*!
But itâs totally fine, because he said it in a joking tone & so that makes it okay to throw shade at his commissioner like that~!
*minor issue but he artificially inflates his own word count by waxing on about the scenery or filling the chapter with long monologues, so he was ripping people off even more while shilling how âdeepâ he was
Lee later threw a fit again about how ungrateful, uncaring & cruel the she1thdom was. Why? Because his newest fic about witch!Keith, paladin!Shiro & the cursed tree with crying baby heads for fruit didnât get over 100 kudos within the span of three days.
And if you were a new fan to she1th & wanted fic recs? Heâll literally just rec his own fics & only his own fics! (Despite having connections to basically every she1th fic writer in the fandom).
Calling Lee a narcissist is a bit of an understatement.
He was also caught plagiarizing another she1therâs band fic. And, key point here:
The original fic was posted for free on ao3.
Leeâs version was patreon-only until he posted it to ao3 (after ignoring his patreon subscribers who were like âhey what the fuck, iâve read this beforeâ).
You had to PAY to read Leeâs version (& this is just a personal opinion, but do you think youâd want to pay for a passionless uncaring version of the same fic? His whole disdain towards VLD & She1th leaks out all over his writing, but heâs so good at marketing his stuff that people donât really notice it - they just think heâs being âdark & edgyâ).
He then claimed to have no prior knowledge of the fic only for people to dig up his ao3 account & find out that not only had he bookmarked the original fic, but he had also kudosed it. (Yes, heâs deleted that bookmark by now. Canât delete the kudos though!)
Lee tried to spin the whole thing as âfighting for the freedom to write whatever you wantâ just like how he tried to spin his condescending tweets about the Hanakotoba zineâs selection process as ârewarding those who worked hard at their writingâ like it wasnât just a blatant âim only picking me, my friends & popular folks & calling them the best the fandom has to offerâ cash grab.
He eventually took down the fic but not before loudly insisting that he was in the right. The other author just wanted the drama to be over with so the entire incident was settled & forgotten without much fanfare.
And then someone spoke up & mentioned that Lee had begged for nudes from underaged fans. And a whole storm of threads poured forth, many of Leeâs whiteknights vanished into the wind & the she1th blogs who had been vaguing about him for years finally gave up on him (you can only avoid someone so much if theyâre that popular & basically in every single she1th event promo & whatnot).
Essentially, it was the straw that broke the camelâs back.
Or is it?
In the grand scheme of things, this hasnât really changed much for Lee. People did write to his publisher, Oni Press, (as Lee was working on Dream Daddy with them) & while there was a response, there hasnât been much information as to how it concluded.
His patreon follower count did drop quite a bit, but Lee still has many fans who will willingly throw tons of money at him. (Besides, he was already losing followers after VLD ended - tons of people lost interest in both the canon & in fan content).
So yeah, things havenât really changed that much for Lee other than some people now refusing to support him financially or make art based on his works.

Fail-fandom threads about Lee CAâs attitude towards his own fans & his semi-illegal patreon (illegal in the sense that he never discloses on his account that heâs writing VLD fanfics for money):
Some of the fall-out from Voltron s8 (Klanti edition)
Hereâs a tweet (video included) of a Klanti destroying their own Klance art out of protest, probably a mimicry of that time a klanti printed out a copy of Dristâs sheith art & torched it on Instagram (again out of protest, but this time against Sheith shippers & not the writers).
And hereâs some slander from Jewishbow, a klanti who claims to have knowledge from a mysterious Dreamworks intern that showrunners Joaquim & Lauren Montgomery were horribly abusive to work under & deliberately botched season 8 because they were white racists, everyone who worked on the show were white racists, including the Korean animators because âasian menâ are basically white racists with a POC facade tacked on.
Itâs a freaking 11 minute rant by a white teenage girl with zero sources to back it up.
Where is the "in a way allura's sacrifice was the greatest honor the writers could bestow upon her character" from?
I believe it was from the podcast with Afterbuzz. (Which I donât recommend you listen to as itâs mostly the hosts CONSTANTLY interrupting the writers over & over again. And being lowkey klantis about it.)
It makes me really happy that you acknowledge Alluraâs faults like her racism, (as a biracial kid whoâs been bullied for it, seeing Allura treat her close ally and âloverâ like that over their race, crushed my heart.) but you donât make it a habit of bashing her, itâs really refreshing.
Mostly because in this case, while she IS a Mary Sue (which tend to be subject to a lot of bashing in critiques), her flaws ARE addressed in the show, but theyâre not addressed properly.
Which is the fault of the writers, not of the character.
Like We said, the showâs canon repeatedly states the long ties Alteans had with other races & their diplomatic prowess, but Alluraâs repeatedly portrayed as someone with almost no personal ties with her own people & isolated from everyone almost as much as Rapunzel was.
Sheâs actually very close minded & never really learns from others. Even in the comics, she immediately gives up after one race of aliens refuses to work with the Coalition after theyâve been freed. She never tries to find any compromises, any convincing arguments that arenât âpeace!â or âhelping people!â. And then Coran just consoles her with âwell Alfor had troubles with other races tooâ & then the whole thing is resolved without Alluraâs help or effort.
Thereâs also the weirdly racist smug âawww look at the primitive racesâ attitude both she & Coran (mostly Coran) takes towards the paladins about their humanity. While the âhideous earsâ from the pilot can be played off as a joke, itâs really off-putting in context when the canon tells you that sheâs a noble well-learned princess of a race of diplomats who have befriended many races. (And she never really apologizes for it - just immediately drags them into a war. REALLY great first impression on a race youâve never met. Wow, such diplomacy.)
Again, this is the pilot though. Some of the stuff from it got retconned in later episodes & seasons & itâs just supposed to be an episode to get the viewers watching, so itâs kind of a moot point. But it DOES show a recurring pattern later on regarding Alluraâs massive bias towards the Alteans & her uncaring attitude towards how others treat her friends/paladins. (Hell, NOBODY reacted at all in s8 over a villain Galra spitefully calling Keith a âhalfbreedâ.)
Coranâs is much more blatant - he literally canât stop condescending to Pidge or even Sam Holt regarding their technological prowess. Which is really weird when you consider that this is 10,000 years advanced Galra tech & Sam had united his whole planet into constructing a clone of the Castleship, a ship that Coran bragged about since his grandpa built it & the peak of Altean craftsmanship, despite having zero alien resources outside a few tiny ships & no ability to utilize Altean alchemy (haxx) or Balmeran crystals. And Pidge was even able to upgrade Voltron itself with Altean technology without Coran even ONCE teaching her. She was completely self-taught & yet Coran is still like âah you primitive races, how quaint~â. And as the flashbacks have shown - Alfor & the former green paladin have apparently never upgraded Voltron before or did anything extra to it.
This!! Is NOT!!! How a diplomatic race that respects all life!!!! Should act!!!!
Itâs literally the writers being blind to their own gaping plotholes & not realizing all the wrong implications itâs giving off.
