While taking small solace in knowing that the bog Protestants (island version) are not getting the world cup, isn't it odd that Brits talk about the Malvinas/Falklands and the territorial dispute has to bring up that apparently, this is a right-wing issue in Argentina, while failing to disclose which part of their populace is obsessed with the islands?

Like, I'm not getting into the accuracy of this here which I'm sure is a topic too; rather, let's look at the statement being made by the Anglos as not a statement of facts, but a statement of political position, because that is what it is.

By leaving which part of the British politics is obsessed with KEEPING the island, this positions the UK, and its claim over the islands, as a politically neutral or even a progressive position despite their history of imperialism in the region. Why DOES the UK, with no history that isn't imperialism to justify its presence in the region, get to be the politically neutral/progressive position here, aside from the assumption that any expression of territorial integrity from a global south nation is a right-wing issue from the aggrieved party?

And why is the idea that, even if we take this to be true, just because one nation in this issue has taken a position from the right-wing of their nation, the other nation is not doing the same? Since apparently Argentina's claims come from their right wing, the same can't be true for the UK? Why? Is the Argentina's right wing the UK's right wing? The obsession with keeping any of the UK's colonial outposts is, by definition, a conservative pastime for those in the UK but the quoted poster ran right past that.

The Rampur Development Authority (RDA) has ordered the demolition of 38 out of 40 buildings at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur, alleging that they were constructed without the required approvals from the competent authority, drawing criticism over the alleged selective targeting of the institution and its potential impact on students.  The university, run by the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust chaired by jailed former Uttar Pradesh minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, has been given 15 days to remove the allegedly unauthorised structures, failing which the authorities will carry out the demolition. The demolition order was issued on Wednesday by Rampur District Magistrate and RDA Vice-Chairperson Ajay Kumar Dwivedi under Section 27 of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. According to the RDA, a scrutiny of official records found that only the university's medical college building and one academic block had valid building approvals. The remaining 38 buildings, covering a total built-up area of 82,309 square metres, were allegedly constructed without permission from the competent authority. District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi said, "The buildings of Jauhar University were constructed in Gram Singhan Kheda, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Rampur Development Authority (RDA). 

Officials said the buildings stand on land where their present use is not permitted under the applicable land-use regulations and that the violations cannot be regularised under existing law, making demolition the only legally permissible course of action. The order followed notices issued on June 28 and 29 to the secretary of the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust and the university registrar after a complaint was received.  The respondents submitted a joint written reply on July 8, and representatives of the university appeared before the authority on Wednesday to present their case. The university argued that the land was outside the jurisdiction of the Rampur Development Authority when the buildings were constructed.  However, the RDA rejected the contention, holding that approval from the competent authority was mandatory under the Zila Panchayat Act and other applicable laws even before the area came under the authority's jurisdiction. The order also cited Supreme Court judgments on unauthorised constructions, observing that such violations warrant strict enforcement of the law. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate directed officials to ensure that the demolition process does not adversely affect students enrolled at the university.  The Regional Higher Education Officer and the District Inspector of Schools have been asked to set up counselling camps on the campus to guide students and help safeguard their academic interests. Mukrim Rawl, a fourth-year B.A. LL.B. student of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, appealed to the authorities to halt the proposed demolition, expressing deep concern over its impact on thousands of students pursuing their education at the institution.  (...)

Call of Duty’s newest installment is set in a renewed Korean War. But Modern Warfare 4 isn’t just a game—it’s a forecast of the genocidal war the US is planning for Korea.

The game’s release trailer shows shocking images of North Korea striking civilian areas—but it was the US that leveled almost every standing building in the north during the Korean War. COD MW4 is part of a larger project to obscure the reality of the Korean War, which was a war waged by the US occupation against Koreans who resisted its division of the country.

Far from a game, millions of Koreans today still live in the distended shadow of the ongoing war—a war that the US is actively stoking the flames for with hundreds of escalatory war games.

This is not the first time COD has completely revised history. In 2019, the franchise laundered the infamous Highway of Death as a massacre by the Russians—not as was in reality, the US.

COD is part of a larger military-entertainment complex that spans the entire entertainment industry from movies to video games, through which the Pentagon actively shapes the narratives of games like MW4 that serve as public relations shields for US imperialism.

Games like Call of Duty also condition young people for recruitment, which recruiters take advantage of by infiltrating gaming platforms, public schools, and gaming conventions. Youth enter the military hoping to be heroes, only to be the world’s most dangerous terrorists.

It’s no coincidence that COD MW4 is set in Korea while US war threats in the region are at an all time high. Many of us are outraged by this depiction of the Korean War—but our task now is to build organized opposition to US imperialism by raising consciousness and solidarity.

The move comes days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested against the procurement of certain books for government school libraries, accusing the National Conference-led government in the Union Territory of promoting "academic jihad".

The controversy led to the withdrawal of two books from school libraries and the suspension of eight officials, along with the termination of a contractual employee, over the inclusion of what the government described as "pro-separatist content".

The books withdrawn were “Personalities and Legends of J&K,” authored by Hilal Ahmed and Santosh Meena, and “Great Personalities of Jammu and Kashmir” by Dr Sushant Giri. Both had been supplied to higher secondary school libraries under the Samagra Shiksha programme.

Police also searched the premises of a publisher linked to one of the books after registering a First Information Report (FIR) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The latest directive comes amid a broader crackdown on books in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier in August, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department banned 25 books by several prominent academics, historians, journalists and writers, ordering their seizure under Section 98 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

The move drew criticism from several authors and academics, who accused the government of attempting to erase Kashmir's history and suppress alternative perspectives.
