I love getting unaccompanied minors (kids flying alone) who so clearly just. Don't want to be here lol. Sometimes I get to know a little of their story, like their parents are divorced, or a family member died and they're heading to the funeral, but usually they just don't want to talk about it and that's fine. But I always treat the flight like it's a challenge to make them smile. I offer them snacks and soda but that's never enough, that's whatever, they could get those from an airport vending machine. Chump change. So then I tell the worst jokes. Just the most embarrassing, kindergarten teacher, annoying dad jokes you can think of. And those always get a groan, or a "Seriously??" And that's my in! Now I can say "Why, what's your idea of a good joke? No, come on hotshot, make your best joke, let's see it." And they hem and they haw but of course they eventually tell me their very best joke because kids are little competitive comedy goldmines. And it's always super funny, so I laugh, and that's where they slip up. Because you know what you almost always do when your joke successfully makes someone laugh? You smile. And I'm like. Gotcha. Rookie move. Now you're going to end up having a good time in spite of yourself. I win.

It tastes like a pumpkin gingerbread cake! Great treat for fall and winter!

Text from recipe

Tim Cain's Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins -- They're the shadow king's favorite!

1 and 2/3 cup flour

2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp cloves

1/4 tsp baking powder

2 eggs

1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup sugar

1 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup pumpkin (half of a 16 oz can)

1/2 cup (one stick) butter, melted

preheat oven to 350. grease muffin tins (one dozen regular size) or use baking cups. mix flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Break eggs into another bowl. add pumpkin and butter and whisk until blended. stir in chocolate chips. pour over dry ingredients and stir until just blended. do NOT overstir! scoop batter into tins and bake 20-25 minutes. after cooling, keep muffins wrapped in plastic to avoid drying.

Deltarune fandom really showing its ass with its constant obsession with fan characters that don't even exist (gaster) and theorizing about their existence while not sparing a second thought to character(s) who are actually hidden, implied to exist, and have a tremendous impact on the story: whoever raised Susie.

Like maybe I'm going crazy here but the constant conspicuous absence of any adults in Susie's life is, like, obviously pointed to. She iirc mentions moving a lot, living in different places when she was young. Doesn't call her parents when she's staying over. Food insecure from *waves hands* everything. Like whether she's in the foster system, fully homeless, or just has very neglectful family is up in the air, both stated and unstated. And yeah that doesn't have the same metanarrative speculation element as "guy who basically doesnt exist" but it's just one more little point of how the fandom doesn't really give a shit about the racialized girl main character in favor of men.

Same thing with like, everything regarding the Knight! This mysterious figure of immense power and unknown origin, who at the same time is just. Like absolutely signaled to be Dess in some form or another. The visual design, the bat & ball motifs, the stange relationship to Kris. And people kept saying that it was definitely, for sure, one of the men. It's Asgore. It's Rudy. As if Toby is somehow interested in trying to trick people or juke them out when that isn't a thing that the story has like. Ever done?

People just seem to not get that Deltarune is, at its core, a story about four teenagers, none of whom are men, and their relationships to one another and their lives in a small, suffocating town. Because that story is actually, if you look closely, just very good and well-told.

op i know you mean well but it's actually really, REALLY frustrating as someone who cares deeply about everything you mentioned to pit all of this stuff against each other. like why does "caring about susie's home life" and "wondering what's going on with dess" have to be pit against "figuring out gaster's deal" and "speculating on who the knight is." why are these not allowed to just fucking coexist. these are all important to the narrative and meta-narrative of the game and i think anyone who says otherwise to any of that simply Has Note Been Paying Attention

Well again I think you’re coming at this from a place of deep emotional investment which is why you think that. Op is at the absolute worst a little bit overly critical of Gaster, but I think demanding a perfect post from a person who is clearly holding a lot of long time frustration from built up dismissal of women in a fandom is in of itself a bit misogynistic.

i just think that outright lying to get peoples attention (calling gaster a "fan character that doesn't even exist") is just going to get people pissed off. it's swinging way too hard the other way when that's just not going to do anything productive.

like i ultimately agree that people too often ignore the text and dismiss deltarune's female characters in exchange for solely focusing on the metatext, but to act like that metatext simply is not there is just gonna get people riled up
