“You look stressed cousin.” Lyra offered unhelpfully, bouncing into place next to her cousin. It hadn’t escaped her notice that they had ushered out the youngest of the Sanderson children. Lyra bounced over to Pyxis’ side wanting to look at what they were doing. “Aunt Winnie had said she wants us to collect the ingredients the book asks for to start the ritual soon.”
There was a singsong quality to her tones, Lyra loved singing but unless there was a ritual, her aunt wouldn’t let her sing, so the blonde was very excited by the revelation of her aunt and coven leader. From the corner of her eyes, Lyra could see the book looking at them and she squeaked excitedly.
“Come cousin, let’s collect the ingredients now!” The quicker it was all done, the happier their aunt would be and the more productive the household. The aunt was always a sourpus when she felt old.
Pyxis couldn’t quite hold back their sigh when Lyra bounded over to their side. It wasn’t that they disliked the blonde; on the contrary, Pyxis often couldn’t pick between Lyra or Orion as their favourite cousin, but she was certainly the louder of the pair and all the dark-haired witch wanted was a little quiet for ten minutes. The blonde was right though. Aunt Winnie was a witch in more ways than one, and if things weren’t done how she wanted and when she wanted, there would be far more than hell to pay.
“I have children to keep an eye on, of course I’m stressed,” Pyxis replied, brushing their hair out of their face. Despite their attitude, they were pleased to hear Lyra so happy. It wasn’t often the girl got to sing, and she did have such a lovely voice. Perfect for snatching away the key ingredient for their mother and aunt’s youth. They glanced at their younger siblings and cousins, reaching out with their magic to scout the area. No intruders, if the wards were to be believed.
“Fine,” they agreed, pushing themselves to their feet. “Grab the baskets and the shears and we’ll head out, but not far. I need to stay close by.”
