A small drabble for Misery realizing that she has feelings for Ruby (only sfw please)
Ask and you shall receive, Anonymous! Although I am not good at writing this… at all… please help me improve with constructive criticism.
I’ll be honest, I ship Misery with Iris more so than with Ruby but this was definitely fun to try!
It was not the stuff of movies or Byron or Shakespeare. There was no romcom-like epiphany when she realized she loved… a girl…
Specifically, the happiest girl in the world.
The reasons why this even happened were hard to think up off and almost all were stricken out eventually with time. She was not having difficulty with her hormones simply because of her constant proximity to the perky redhead, nor was she having misplaced emotions due to Ruby’s kind treatment. What she was feeling was just because of the Gloom Girl herself.
Ruby, with her megawatt smile that was more jolting than any lightning bolt struck by Mother Nature. Her party addiction, her focused but positive mind, the obsession with Gingerbread houses and her tendency to randomly journal her thoughts down no matter where. It made sense, really, that someone who had been compared to a corpse all her life would fall for someone who was so vibrantly alive. She had captured Misery’s badly-stiched heart with her sunny attitude and her effortless charm, and there was no chance of getting it back. And what an elaborate process it had been for Ruby’s influence to be etched in the fabric of her life.
It had started in innocent daydreams. Merely a blurred out figure, if not a blob, of the redhead that could have been easily mistaken for yearning to be like her, rather than with her. Then the marking phase started. Her mannerisms, her idiosyncrasies, and quirks became her causes celebre; Misery pondered and pontificated upon them. Cooking only when everything was arranged in their designated areas marked out with a hot pink marker. Writing with only a quill and refusing any other pen. Going to Misery just to get her lukewarm Black Tea iced by the banshee’s unusual weather powers. Flipping through the newspapers to find out what had happened the previous day but always ensuring that her eyes skipped the sections containing grotesque pictures or news that would cause undue despondency in her… Misery was just glad that several online quizzes confirmed that she was not a stalker.
In fact, the signs would have probably been obvious to anyone else other than a bewildered banshee. When one-sided ties of thoughts and heart snaked over and constricted primal instincts of self-preservation, decimating ideas of self-advancement. When a single-minded, intense yet joyful focused on another person’s existence stole the limelight.
Ironically, it was on stage where Ruby delivered the mortal blow to Misery’s secret, mysterious, feelings for her. After all, what was that outpouring of emotion for when she felt the cracks of heart widening the moment Ruby’s lips had landed on her inamorato?
Of course, Romeo might have loved Rosaline but it was Juliet who would always triumph. Why get the dull, sickly-looking moon that probably brought others down? The sun full of passion for venturing into anything captivating, because he knew he had power over his less-appealing cousin that could not even shine on her own. There was no locus standi in loving her. The issue was a non-starter. They could remain friends… just when realization had finally kicked in too late.
How unfortunate… as usual…
