Happy 3rd Birthday to the Sweetest Shortie Ever
Daddy cuddles are the best.
TALK ABOUT THEM: Munchkins!
You’ve seen them. You’ve heard about them. You’ve probably lost your composure over them once or twice - the adorable “corgi of the feline world.” Most of you know what I’m talking about…this week’s Talk About Them breed is…
The Munchkin!
At a Glance:
Small package, big personality. This is a small cat only in height; don’t expect less anywhere else. They can jump, climb, play, and get into trouble just as well as any kitty.
Fountains of (feline) youth. Unlike some who age into a calm and lazy flop cat, expect a Munchkin to party far into their elder years, with energy rarely falling below the “PARTY!” level :P
Self-assured. These cats don’t care about their “short comings” - they’re confident and assertive, and the added “aww” factor is a bonus of their power.
Sticky paws! That is to say, Munchkins tend to have a habit of taking items and hiding them away for later. Keep your vigilance!
(Gus, of acatnamedasparagus)
Hailing from a genetic mutation, Munchkins are one of the newer “It” cats onto the feline scene. Many people are in awe and adoration over the short stature that is this breed’s name sake. Like nearly any smaller animal, Munchkins are not held back, intimidated, or limited by their size - they can wrestle, play, hunt, and jump with the best of them.
(Vegeta, found at i-so-short)
There is some controversy over this breed, as there are with nearly any new breed, particularly concerning the health of the Munchkin. Though many expect the common health problems such as spinal issues or enlarged head such as in many short legged canines, there has been little to no evidence of these problems occurring in Munchkins. What problems have been found are not 100% short-legged feline related, and can in fact occur in many breeds and species.
(Tater Tot, found at munchkintater)
The Munchkin is commonly combined with other notable breeds; such as the sphinx to create the Minskin, or Persians to create the Napolean. When breeding for Munchkins, it is common to have some litters with “normal” sized legs, as this is a genetically recessive gene-caused physicality.

If you’re in the market for an adorable, loveable, and playful cat, then Munchkins are a breed to consider if you come across one. Make sure you don’t choose just for the novelty, because these cats aren’t around just for the shock factor; they are full energy, full force felines whose little legs may win you over initially, but whose big personalities and hearts will seal the deal in the end.
Thanks, cats-rightmeow for the mention! Vegeta approves. ^__^
Add a touch of sophistication to your home with uncommon cat breeds.
Office cat is a busy office cat.
Zzz... Om nom nom... Chicken... Zzzz...
Where'd my legs go?!!! Oh yeah... I'm part munchkin. Nevermind.
Mommy has been very busy (or lazy) to update, but I’m still doing well. She put me on a diet the last few months, and it’s really helping me trim my stomach. It doesn’t drag on the floor anymore! Watch out, Baywatch! Oh! And I have a little brother now! ... Well, he's not really little cuz he's half Maine Coon and Bengal... His name is Trunks. I don't like him sometimes because he's so energetic, but he's my buddy.
I'll try to take more standing photos.
Draw me like one of your French ladies… Again!
