it is okay to have a high amount of screen time, ESPECIALLY if you are disabled and homebound/bedbound.
It is not morally wrong to try to stay connected with the outside world, do not listen to the opinions of able bodied people who could not fathom your reality.
I saw a video today from a chronically ill woman about the fact you can feel so guilty when doing fun things.
She talks about how, as a kid, you learn to finish work before you can play and that you take this with you into adulthood. So you keep the mindset of having to finish 'have to' tasks/chores before being allowed to 'play'.
But when you're chronically ill, this is literally impossible! If you'd do that it would be all work and never play. That wouldn't be healthy at all. We need to remind ourselves of this. We don't need to feel guilty for doing something fun!
This is unfortunately not helped by people who ask you, "How come you're doing x fun thing when you couldn't do that chore I asked you to?" And it's very hard to explain to people that you couldn't do the chore because that would take up all the energy which you'd been saving up to do the fun thing, because you really needed something to help make life worth living.
i’ve seen some people (both on here and ig) minimizing ME/CFS like it’s no big deal (like how fibromyalgia was and still is treated) and if you think that, sincerely fuck off. and to do that during ME/CFS awareness month? cruel. after a man with very severe ME/CFS DIED? horrid.
ME/CFS is an extremely debilitating systemic disease with lethal potential. pwME have an extremely low quality of life and no approved treatments. the majority of people never recover.
take it seriously. this isn’t the “i’m tired” disease.
Being normal sick on top of being chronically ill should be illegal. Like what do you mean a simple flu got me feeling like i'm on my death bed?
Hey if you have a chronically ill friend who is housebound, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you to make contact with them. See if you can visit them (offer to sit in their room with them, tell them they don't need to worry about how clean it is), offer to bring them a meal or help with tasks they can't do themself, offer to go with them to a doctor's appointment, if they can leave the house sometimes let them know that the next time they have the energy they're welcome to come lie on your couch.
Housebound people feel free to add your own input, my housebound friend was able to visit recently and I was reminded of how isolating it can be for her. I love you and you deserve to get to see people in ways that don't hurt you more than they have to.
This !!1 I'm not totally housebound but there's a lot of periods where I can't leave my house due to ME/CFS ^^ I would love if anyone did these for me

I feel like we don’t talk enough about how having chronic illness and/or chronic pain makes you irritable. It makes you grumpy. It can make you a not very fun person to be around.
We don’t talk enough about the ugly sides of chronic illness/pain. The parts where you feel like a bad person not because of the pain in of itself but because everyone else thinks you are pushing them away. The times when you don’t bear it like a saint and the roughest edges of your personality come out. Where maybe you do hurt other people’s feelings. Its a complicated side of the experience thats resists an easy answer.
Another more mundane but perhaps more insidious side to chronic illness, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and probably other is the way it can hurt your friendships not in such a direct way as I describe in the post above but because you simply can’t be there. All the times when you have to cancel plans because you don’t have the energy or the ability to be with people. All the times when you can’t make plans in the first place.
It makes me feel like such a terrible friend to say I can’t hang out with you. And it makes me feel like I can’t ever truly deepen my friendships because I’m not able to put the time in that other people can.
