Conscious Machine

The whistling of hydrolic pistons, whirring of electronic bolts. Metallic fingers crackle with each clench. The wound is deep, but hardly bleeds. A giant cavity shares the secrets within. Back pressed up against the cold, reclined chair. Arm on the rest, cut open and bare.

The brain exposed. Wires draped from the cerebellum. Rows of monitors light up the room. Code upon code flashing on the screens. Doctors typing. Fingers like lightning. Extremities are moving, but the eyes seem dead.

Not alive, but moving. Not moving, but alive. Squishy organs in a steel carapace. A puppet on strings, still walking when snipped. Strong. Resilient. Impervious to pain. And yet here it sits, laid bare for all.

The body avoided, the consciousness attacked. An invisible attacker, attached online. It was slow and painless, but it still shut down. Money and technology, promise of eternal life. With all this combined you still cannot escape.

Machines can be built.

Consciousness can only be born.

Even combined. Dead stays dead.
