We're adapting Frankenstein next year, and we want to cast entirely Trans VAs! All roles are paid $35/hour of recording time. No previous VA experience required! We're using this call to form a roster to cast specific characters from.

We’re looking for good audio quality without reverb or background noise. We’re also looking for grounded, authentic acting - avoid leaning too theatrical or cartoony. We don’t care about how “masculine” or “feminine” your voice sounds; the submission form will ask what genders you’re comfortable playing and we’ll cast to that. The 22 characters in Re: Frankenstein span a variety of ages, genders, and accents.

Again, we’re only looking for Trans and Nonbinary voice actors at this time. No previous voice acting experience is required. Demo reel submissions are acceptable in addition to the audition monologue, but not in lieu of.

I'm doing a little work on one of my fantasy settings right now, specifically on the background of the main antagonist faction. Writing it out, I've just gotten to the part where there's a shift from doing experiments with the assistance of a certain group to doing experiments on that group.

i did look, but i didn't find what i was looking for there. someone on discord recommended this archive, which is in fact what i was looking for (though the one specific game i want to find remains out of reach, as that archive is incomplete).

Tumblr 200-Word RPGs 2023

Last November, we did an informal game jam for folks who wanted to write something for Writing Month, but would prefer to write fewer than fifty thousand words of it. You can find the complete list of participants for that event in this post here. There's also an off-Tumblr archive of entries whose authors gave permission for them to be preserved here, if any of those links turn out to be broken.

Last year's collaboration went over well enough that I thought we might dust it off again this year. To be clear, this is just for fun – it's not a curated jam, and nobody's judging winners or handing out prizes..

If you'd like to throw your hat in, just follow these steps:

Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of last year's entries (linked above) or browse the 200 Word RPG Challege archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get your brain-meats properly configured.

Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure whether you have 200 words or not (and with RPGs it can genuinely be difficult to tell!), you can use the word counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check.

Step 3: Reblog this post and append your 200-word RPG.

Step 4 (optional): Please indicate in your post whether you're okay with having your 200-word RPG archived off-site for posterity – if you don't say anything one way or the other, I'll assume the answer is "no".

(As before, as a courtesy to anyone who's creeping the notes, please restrict non-200-word-RPG commentary to replies and tags until November 2023 is over – let's make the actual games easy to find!)

Lighting Candles

A game of hope for one or more players.

This game deals with dark topics. Before playing, decide on lines (banned topics) and veils (no detail).

Something is threatened. Roll a d6.

1: person

2: family or small group

3: small community (town)

4: large community (nation)

5: planet

6: universe

Something is the threat. Roll another d6.

1: ideology or institution

2: something natural

3: something unnatural

4: scarcity or conflict

5: the thing itself

6: roll on the first table

Come to an agreement about what that means, then take turns adding one detail about the threat's nature, capabilities, or actions until at least ten turns have been taken and the situation seems hopeless. Take a deep breath, and allow yourself to sit with the foregone conclusion for a little while.

Then, starting with the first person who has an idea, players take turns narrating one thing that happens to make the situation better. Continue until the threat is gone and you all reach a happy ending. (If you don't know what to say on your turn, you can describe how the threat responds to what's happened so far.)

Discuss your feelings when you're done, or journal them.

THE ALIEN

You and your roommates have discovered that someone in this house is secretly THE ALIEN.

Before the others arrive, cut pieces of paper equal to twice the number of players. Mark half and fold them all, then discard half at random.

Once everyone's there, name your characters. Make sure these are perfectly ordinary human names that will easily blend in with your fellow humans' names. Because you're human.

Then, each player takes one paper and looks at it. If it's marked, they are secretly THE ALIEN.

This may be more than one person, or even everyone. Being THE ALIEN does not mean you get to know who else is THE ALIEN.

This may be no one. Oh well! Guess you all suspected each other for nothing.

If this is your first time playing, pretend exactly one paper is marked.

Once you're all named and THE ALIEN knows who they are, it's time to call a house meeting. Start by explaining how you know THE ALIEN is among you.

The human players' goal is to uncover THE ALIEN.

THE ALIEN's goal is to cast off suspicion and not get kicked out.

Once everyone's in agreement, settle who's staying on the rent.
