Adrian rolls his eyes. So he gets a twig thrown at and now the culprit won’t even admit it? Great. He can’t very well admit that he’s a witch who can detect auras now, can he? They probably resemble a pair of toddlers right now, fighting over flying twigs in the middle of a walkway. He’s surprised no one’s stopped to watch yet. He sighs as he catches the twig thrown at him. “You’re the only one throwing twigs in the area, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put two and two together, you half-wit,” he snaps.

"Nice aim, by the way." Adrian chuckles as he breaks the twigs in two and throws them at the stray dogs passing by. "Why were throwing twigs at people in the first place?" He wanted to settle this peacefully. He wasn’t a huge fan of over-the-top drama, and he didn’t want to go home with broken body parts. This punk looked like someone who could beat him to pieces without batting an eyelash, and he didn’t want to blow his cover by freezing the guy to death when it wasn’t winter yet.

And toddlers they’d remain. The embarrassment from earlier still wavered, forcing a defensive front to linger about him. Taehyung was naturally stubborn, admitting to losing himself to his thoughts and tossing sticks at strangers chip too much off his ego. Shrugging away the latter’s comment about linking the twig with him, he moves closer. ‘I didn’t realize I was throwing them though.’ That was the most admission anyone was getting out of him.

Taehyung lets a small smile tug onto his lips at the comment on his aim. Perfect aim was everything to him. ‘I’d say the same to you. I mean you did throw it at me before, right?’ He leaves his question off with an awkward silence; what was there to say to some member of the public that just threw a twig at the back of his head? Nothing much really. With that, his thoughts begin to wander off again. Again, the curved edges of a throwing knife dance across his fingers. Again, he can feel the cool metal glide across his skin. Again—

‘Okay, it might have been me?’

He shakes his head and chances an approach; “I didn’t—” he pauses, a sharp intake of breath following. Sunwoo isn’t good with tears, he’s more apt to respond in situations with guns and knives, blood, or fists. “I didn’t mean it like that, you can.. cry all you need to. Just let it out, man.” the rapper pats the stranger on the back, unsure of himself and of the source of his tears. But Baro isn’t heartless, he’s concerned. Showing concern simply wasn’t something he was good at, his reaction to anything bad in his life was either to fight or to laugh.

With his hiccups beginning to fade, Taehyung drags the base of his palm along his left eye once more. He shakes his head at the latter's comment. "No, it's okay."  And as soon he finishes his words, he can feel a hand awkwardly patting his back. This show of concern brings fresh tears to sting his eyes. Taehyung immediately dips his head and closes his eyes, telling at himself to grow up; to man up.

"I'm sorry." He mumbles towards the ground. "I— I'm just over reacting." Taehyung tells this more to himself than the stranger in front of him. With his eyes now somewhat dry, he looks up at the individual, albeit everything is still fuzzy around the corners but he would manage. "Thank you— y'know for not yelling at me..."

Adrian shuffles along the street as he inhales the nippy autumn air. No wonder his powers have been gaining strength: winter was coming soon. He’s already figured out the steps in his plans, but there’s also a matter of timing. Things have gotten fishy in the company, and if he takes off too, it will look suspicious. No, he has to stay in his sister’s good graces if he wants this plan to succeed. His sisters. It’s weird enough to think it, let alone say it out loud. He’s snapped out of his thoughts he feels something hit the back of his head. 

He has half a mind to freeze the person to death, but he supposes it’s too early for that. There’s still a few more weeks, so he guesses he’ll have to do things the mortal way. UGH. Peasants. He looks around for who could possibly have thrown that twig at him. He leans against a tree as he closes his eyes, as he attempts to find an aura that matches that one from the twig. Suddenly, there it is. It feels rather cold, but Adrian is uncertain why it’s that way. Unfortunately for this idiot, Adrian was also an archer with a damned good aim. Without any hesitation, he throws the twig right at the back of the young boy’s head, shouting, “You left this one!”

Taehyung is jerked away from his thoughts, the light thump against the back of his head forcing a hint of surprise out of him. He fumbles, the twig balancing lousily on his thumb before falling to the ground. He curses to himself, the surprise bringing a sense of embarrassment to him. “What was that for?” Taehyung glares at his surrounding, eyes darting and searching the area but never once stopping long enough to confirm a culprit. He reaches for a random twig before him, digging his hand into the ground and pushing himself up.

As he glanced about for possible culprits, his other hand wipes off dried foliage and dirt from his pants. At this point, Taehyung has half the heart to twist the small length of wood into even smaller pieces before throwing them at the unsuspecting public. It was only until he turned around that he saw the male. At the sight of the individual, Taehyung doesn’t rip the twig; rather he tosses it back at the stranger with the flick of the hand. “The hell made you think that this was mine? Take it back.” He crouches to pick up another twig, grumbling to himself before carelessly throwing another stick at the stranger. “In fact, have another; two for the price of one.”

He stared blankly at the male before him. Jade? Of all the colours he had ever thought of, jade had never been at the top of the list. No, of all the colours he had been ask to describe, he had never had to do so for a person that had probably never seen colour to begin with. Taehyung hesitates, eyes darting about, wanting to reply. 

"Jade is... It.."

He stops his rambling and thinks, hoping that the individual before him would not walk away.

"I see it in quite a few ways actually. Jade is a murky colour. It is a disfigured green," he pauses, using another colour may not be the greatest of ideas if the latter was colour blind. "No, it's like looking into a pool of water. You know, the water isn't always clear, but when it is murky, I see jade. The sand and dirt streaks the water, making it darker at times and lighter, more fluffier in the others."

Taehyung's hesitation returns for mere moments. "When it is clearer, darker; you see the many powerful dangers that lurk beneath the water. And as clear as this water may be when you hold it in your hands, you can never see through it. That is jade in it's heaviest forms. It holds a power similar to when it is gripped in an emperor's hand, all beautifully engraved and fit for royalty. When it is lighter, closer to a greyish white,  jade is a protector of all children and adults alike. Jade, like this, is pure. It curves so gently, warm and comfortably heavy to the touch. At that point, jade soothes and tranquillises. I'm sorry, I don't think that explanation is close, but it's what I have seen of jade."

“Ungrateful brat.” Wonshik mumbles, scrunching his nose momentarily but then turning again to face the window, this time showing his back to the other male, not saying anything.  He’s crossing his arms over his knees, forcing his legs on the chair to sit more comfortable as he looks outside, almost forgetting about his cold body until he feels the smell of tea, the room gaining temperature with each passing minute. “What kind of flavour is this?  Also, on a second thought, why don’t you have a separate electricity generator? It’s not that cheap but it does it’s job!”

"And you are equally ungrateful. I just made you something hot and you don't even thank me." He returns with his own cup of scalding hot chocolate, shuffling as to not spill the beverage before sitting down besides the male. "This? Hot chocolate with a hell load of nice spices. Cinnamon nutmeg if you really want to know." Taehyung blows at the top of his drink, fingers curling tightly around the ceramic mug. His eyes follow curiously as the foamy milk swirls about the rich chocolate. "And you do realize I live on a student budget so a stand alone generator is sort of out of my range. Unless you'd like to get me one of course." He glances up at his friend, huffing to himself before he leaves his cup on the kitchen table. Taehyung then leans towards his friend, hand dropping onto the said friend's hair, frozen fingers tapping at his forehead. "Do you want me to make something to eat? Maybe that could help."

"It's hyung you ungrateful brat!" he grabs the pillow to throw it back at his head, jumping up but again shivering, dragging his body along. "If you ever get on my table I'll make sure to eat a burrito before cutting you." Glaring, he's skipping over to a chair once in the kitchen, curling up there again. "I want food.." He's rubbing his face then, yawning as he looks outside. "Was this supposed to be romantic? Because I somehow feel like I'm in a horror movie." He makes a face when the wind starts blowing harder, turning his back to it.

His head is tipped forward by the pillow, nevertheless, he continues walking, ignoring the elder's childish propensity. "Pick it up. You threw it."  By the time he's in the kitchen, he visibly relaxes, eyes darting across the many glass containers of different teas, coffees and spices. Pulling out a selected few, Taehyung begins to boil water and spoon out generous amounts of the powders. "Did you want food or am I hearing things?" He turns around to see the male curled in a kitchen chair. "And no, this isn't meant to be romantic you lazy cat. If you want horror, I have a shed outback with no electricity and a hell load of holes." Taehyung takes the first cup of scalding hot chocolate and places it in front of his friend. "Do you want marshmallows or anything with that?"

He’s shivering for the nth time that night, groaning and rubbing his arms as legs couldn’t tangle more around eachother. After another small breeze he’s glaring daggers at the younger male. “You better do something about this or I will get all your furniture in the middle of the house and set it on fire!” Childishly, he’s curling up more, kicking a pillow off the couch.

Taehyung stared at the other male, lips twitching at their corners as he forced laughter back down his throat. Sure it was cold, but the temperature was manageable. Pushing himself off his seat, he walk over where the shivering male had kicked his pillow, picking it up and tossing it carelessly at the said male's face. "All you have to do is ask. Nicely."  Taehyung then turns and heads towards the kitchen, motioning for his friend to follow. "Set anything of mine on fire and your hair will be the next to go. Now, unless you want to gain an ass of ice, come here and I'll make you something warm."

It was on one of their earlier meetings that the first scars were found. Of course, being a ‘part time’ circus performer, the scars were expected. He was the dagger of the show, the one with the perfect aim and the perfect grin.  He was the childish one, ready to fool with the joker and toss a blade carelessly at the apple perched on said joker’s head. 

But he’d never missed. 

And this accuracy came with practice; years and years of bloody, aching practice. The greatest evidence for his slow journey to the mastery of the dagger was on his hands. Thin lines of white and pink danced upon his fingers and his palm. With each scar came a story — ‘oh, this one was when I picked up the blade wrong, this was when I removed it wrong, this was when I cleaned it wrong, and this was when I …’ He could go on for days.

But on that one day, when he and Naomi decided that baking and hand decorating baked goods was the best idea in the world, she had discovered his spider like threads. She had grabbed his hands and scolded him, praying for him to stop playing with sharp objects and to take better care of himself. She turned his hands about, thumbs rubbing small circles into some of the longer, larger scars. Taehyung remembers his fingers shaking slightly at the touch. Once he managed to blurt out the reason for the scars, she just shook her head, eye brow arching as if commenting on his daring decision.

‘Of all the things in this little world that you decided to master, you thought knife throwing was the best you could do?’

Taehyung recalls nodding pitifully at this. He lowered his head, waiting for the words to continue flying from her mouth. Instead, a kitchen blade as handed to him and she walked off with a plain cookie, seating it upright on top of the fridge.

‘Show me.’

It was on a trip to the seaside that his most mysterious scar was found. It ran along his left shoulder, curling dangerously as it bordered his neck and chest. Taehyung doesn’t remember anything about it, however. It’s just there.

At first, Naomi didn’t see the faded scar. It wasn’t until his silly jest for a water fight that he heard her call. ‘What did you do this time, idiot?’ Those were her exact words. Taehyung would have smiled at them, had he the chance to return to that point. His reply was simple; he had carried a larger blade incorrectly and it fell out of the sheath to cut him. Nothing major.

In all honesty, he had no real idea how it got there.

He remembers Naomi trudging through the crystalline sea water to, first, cause a tsunami to rush over him, before grabbing his arm and pressing a finger to the beginning of the scar on his back. He shivered. Maybe, just maybe, he could find out what this one scar was about.

And just maybe, he could tell Naomi, one of his dear friends, about a scar that existed from birth; one that deemed him different from other humans.

Thankfully, his long swimming trunks covered it all.

[; out of the corner of her eye she noticed a woman’s chair had accidentally gotten wedged onto a man’s leg. She wondered why he hadn’t said something, as it should have caused him tremendous pain, but looking closer, she noticed that his leg wasn’t a real leg. She noticed him try and tell the woman to get off of his leg, but he wasn’t able to. It must have been embarrassing for him. She decided to go and help, getting up out of her current seat and weaving her way through the aisle of chairs, and as she got to the woman’s, she slightly pushed the chair, acting as if she couldn’t get through. The woman turned back and looked at her quickly before scooting up her chair, in the process un-wedging the man’s leg. She quickly took the seat next to the man and gave him a smile before continuing to watch the performance. ]

[; as soon as the woman had moved her chair, he used his other leg to pull back the prosthetic. Once his leg was safe from any other chairs, he turned to see another woman smiling at him. He returned the smile, mouthing a soft 'thank you' once he realized that she was probably the one that saw he was stuck. Before he turned back to the performance, he leans over slightly to the woman, eyes never once leaving the performance that was happening before them ] ' Thanks for that, but how did you notice that my leg is a prosthetic? ' [; he returns to his past position, eyes now drifting over to the female ] ' Not many people see that. They just think that I have no reaction towards pain in my right leg. '

(` the other didn’t at all seem suicidal, and Byunghun took note of this, easing the thought aside of the stranger’s potential to have committed to jumping. Instead, the later response causes the demon to stir from pure laughter, loud enough for the surrounding people to hear ) Me? Oh, no, not me. If I’ve done that, I’d look beat up, wouldn’t I? Maybe even lose an arm or two? (` he’s stretching his arms over his head now as if to prove that they were indeed intact ) I just know. It wouldn’t hurt me anyway. You, on the other hand, would’ve been on your own. (` his grin is prominent like he hadn’t gone through a life-threatening situation just moments prior to where he was now, but his laughter had subsided, at least enough to draw attention away from him once more ) Curiosity’s going to get you killed, you know. Maybe in an even worse way than the railings of a train.

[; his eyes followed as the male’s hands shot up into the air. What he said was true: if he had been hit by a train before, he’d be in a terrible shape, regardless of any rehabilitation. ] ‘ True. You wouldn’t be intact right now if you had gone under a train before; unless you were that lucky to get away unscathed. Now that I look at it, I’d probably pull off the ‘I’ve been hit by a train’ look better than you. ’ [; he knows he could have survived if he wanted to, however, he decides to stay silent and shrug, listening till the latter’s laughter calmed down. ] ‘ Since you say that curiosity would kill me, what are these worse ways? You’ve got my full attention and my curiosity. ’ [; it’s his turn to let out a small laugh, waiting for the latter to reply. He was most definitely curious on other ways that one could die. Being the daredevil he was, he was tempted to try something out, just to test if he could save his own arse. ]

The male beside Myungsoo had literally been staring at his chips for the past five minutes. They were at the bus, fortunately not crowded this end of afternoon. "Uh... Do you want some?", the engineer asked politely, feeling rather bothered by how the other hadn't taken his eyes off his snack.

In all honesty, Taehyung hadn’t meant to zone out staring at the male’s snack. Sure, he was hungry, but he wasn’t entirely desperate for food. Hearing the male speak, thus dragging him from thought brought a pale flush of embarrassment to his cheeks. “No, it’s okay. But, sorry if I was staring or being rude. I’m guessing my brain just zoned in on food and stayed on it.” He shrugs and shakes his head at the male’s offer.

The back of Taehyung’s hands rub pitifully at his puffy eyes. He’s sniffing and breathing in broken intervals but he tries his best to stop. Taehyung swallows every little sound that he could make, his throat aching with every breath that caught itself within him. ‘I’ll —’, he stops to hiccup, and the tears start to burn in his eyes once more as the statement ripples through his thoughts; someone doesn’t want to see me cry.’— try.’

Taehyung would easily be persuaded into watching the stars. They were beautiful to any eyes. They glistened so gently in the night sky, never too bright and never too dull. Each and every little speck of light that he knew of as a star was perfect; an angel of all celestial bodies. Watching stars was equivalent to falling asleep under these very lights; another perfect part of life. The stars live on within his dreamless sleep. They twist and warped into searing, burning pain. They shredded into his skin, shattering and cracking the very structure of his being.

They transformed into the fire of that day.

“Just don’t let me fall asleep and I’ll watch the stars with you for eternity.”
