Mushishi is one of those pieces of media that really sticks with you in a way that matters- and because of this, I’ve found it very difficult to find other media like it. While it’s originality is truly something one of a kind, I’ve been on a mission every since watching/reading it to find other media that feels similarly impactful.

That being said! Let’s jump right into my list of anime (and cartoons) & manga you should watch/read if you like mushishi-

1) The girl from the other side (manga- currently being adapted into an anime)

2) witch hat atelier (manga - currently being adapted into an anime)

3) XXX holic (I recommend the manga over the anime, but a single season anime dose exist)

4) over the garden wall (not a anime but a cartoon mini-series that has similar vibes)

5) the moomins 1977 (another cartoon- again with similar vibes)

6) ODD taxi (this is a bit of a weird one, but this anime follows a similar story structure to mushishi! Aka it’s super chill)

That’s the list for now!

If you’ve read to the bottom and aren’t a fan of mushishi, but are a fan of any of these other shows- I would still recommend checking out everything on this list. And if you feel like I’ve missed a show or two reblog with some of your own recommendations as well!

A graphite portrait I did last year of Hanji. I had it put in a picture frame once but my cat pushed it off the shelf. The frame was broken and since I'm a broke undergrad student, now I've got to peer through the pages of the dictionary every time I want to catch a glimpse of Hanji's face, like one of those real old portraits that were kept in books. 🥹
