Sam snuck down the stairs, careful to avoid the squeaky 3rd step. Danny’s parents were finally asleep and Tucker, Danny, and her wished they were too. The last few weeks had been wearing on them. They’d thought that with Danny’s secret in the open, the sneaking around and lies would stop. Instead, it had only gotten more crucial and challenging.
At first, it seemed like everything was great. Danny and his parents had tearfully embraced and apologies came fast and frequent. He was sorry for all the lies, they were sorry for shooting at him and not noticing something was wrong with him. And maybe that should have been the first clue: nothing was wrong with him.
Jack and Maddie started small, asking to run a few tests to help understand what had happened and so they could help him in the future. Danny assumed the future help would be in case of emergencies or after a particularly difficult fight. They meant to help create a “cure”.
So now, Sam was sneaking down to the lab to replace the latest batch of ecto-de-contamination pills stored in their new ecto-proof medical safe. Danny hadn’t been given the passcode to “help prevent any ghostly influence from interfering with his recovery.” Fortunately, Sam had been working on a few skills to help Team Phantom, including lock picking and safe cracking.
Both she and Tucker were stepping up to help trick the Fenton’s into thinking they were eliminating Danny’s “dangerous ecto-contamination” while keeping him safe. He’d refused to leave despite Tucker’s offer of a bed at his house and her offer of money to get out of town so they’d created contingency plans. Sam’s job was breaking-and-entering. Tucker’s was hacking. He’d get into the Fenton’s scanning tech to make sure that even though Sam had replaced the decontamination pills, Danny’s ecto-signature readings would show decreasing levels. It was a complex solution, but what the Fenton’s didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them.
