The Mirror*

I AM the mirror.

Because I am empty and open like space,

All experience arises freely within me.

Because I am featureless,

All images are clearly reflected by me.

These images are not me,

But neither are they other than me.

Because I hold onto nothing,

All situations transform within me.

Because I add nothing,

Everything is free to be just as it is.

Because I am insubstantial,

I remain utterly unaltered by these activities.

Because I know beyond doubt that I am this clarity, this openness, this insubstantiality, this timeless presence,

I am called Awareness.

But that, too, is merely a word.

And mirrors have no words.
