I knew why the critics hated eternals but now I saw it and I ABSOLUTELY GET WHY THEY HATED IT IT IS BRILLIANTLY DIVERSE AND BEAUTIFUL AND NOT CENTERED AROUND A STRAIGHT WHITE GUY AND I LOVE IT
Octopus filmed changing colours while sleeping.
i wonder what they are dreaming about
Changing colors duh
What’s really cool about this is that cephalopod (octopus, squid, etc.) intelligence evolved completely separately from intelligence in tetrapods (which includes primates, dolphins, crows… basically any other intelligent animals you can think of). Cephalopods are very, very far away from us on the tree of life. For context, you and a starfish are more closely related than you and an octopus. The last common ancestor of humans and cephalopods was the so-called Urbilaterian, the hypothetical first animal with a left-right symmetric body. This animal almost certainly had, at most, an extremely simple nervous system, without anything resembling a brain.
All this is to say that the fact that this octopus appears to be dreaming means one of two things. Either
a) dreaming is a very, very old thing indeed, going directly back to the Urbilaterian. This would mean that almost every animal, from insects to starfish to sea slugs to newts, is likely to have the ability to dream in some capacity or another (unless they have specifically lost it by evolutionary simplification).
or
b) dreaming evolved entirely independently in cephalopods when they developed greater intelligence. This would suggest, at least, that there’s something very fundamental about dreaming related to intelligence itself, which causes it to emerge independently when sufficient intelligence arises.
Needless to say, either of these outcomes would be really very cool.
Happy birthday Deku!

I love this song
South Korean beauty standards take shit to the next. Fucking. Level. Women are evaluated in totality based on every minor physical detail and whether it matches the ideal to the point where their decision to go under the knife for procedures the likes of blepharoplasty (surgery on their eyelids) is a main determinant of whether they get a job. For them, shit like this is an expectation. Fuck that garbage, burn it up ladies.
In Korea you are literally REQUIRED to have a headshot with your application. Your physical appearance is a major vetting point in the interview. Applicants have literally been told to bleach their skin for jobs. Seoul is the plastic surgery capital of the world.
This is HUGE for them. Support them. Even if you love makeup, their beauty culture is TOXIC. Support this movement
GO GIRLS GO
BURN IT DOWN, LADIES
man some of the seven deadly sins aren’t even that bad. sorry I’m angry n wanna fuck? Sorry I ate a lot? shut up
One of my favorite class of villains: not morally justifiable, but after that backstory they deserve to Go Off for a bit. Yes, darling, wreak havoc, rain destruction. You’ve earned it. They’ll stop you when they stop you. In the meantime, have a little fun for once
*missing the charging port on my phone* don’t think about it don’t think about it don’t think about it
my two favourite things about this
everyone knows what this is
the scene was an adaptation of a scene from the original novel where instead of a charging port on a phone, it’s a winding key in a pocketwatch. I like to imagine people having this exact same kind of thought when they missed the watch keyhole 100 years ago
The thing is that the watch keyhole was absolutely massive and it actually does take a fairly low manual dexterity to miss it on the reg--the sort of thing one might expect of, say, a habitual drinker.
Phone charging ports, on the other hand, are tiny; missing them doesn’t mean jack shit. Reason #8696315 that Sherlock was shit.
happy may the fourth! 🥳

Isaiah Bradley
Here’s a transcript of the monument if it’s hard to read in the photo
“Isaiah Bradley is an American hero whose name went unknown for too long
Isaiah was one of a dozen African-American soldiers who were recruited against their will and without their consent for participation in human testing in pursuit of the Super Soldier Serum most did not survive. The few who lived through testing were sent on secret missions during the Korean War. During the conflict, against all odds Isaiah Bradley rescued his fellow soldiers and 28 other POWs from behind enemy lines.
However fearful of the ramifications of a Black Super Soldier, some individuals within the Government tried to erase Isaiah’s story from history. His family was issued a falsified death certificate, and for decades the truth of his unflinching bravery was buried.”
Whenever I do worldbuilding I try to keep this image in mind
I didn’t think it could get better
