“I wouldn’t exactly call myself a princess,” she remarked, nose wrinkling as she eyed the crushed cigarette. “I think ‘bad’ is an understatement. I’m surprised your teeth aren’t yellow.” She shifted to glower at him, crossing her arms as he grabbed the one she’d dropped. “Not particularly happy, no. Are rules really such a foreign concept to you? They’re there for a reason, you know. They ensure safety and peace. Rules were made to be followed, contrary to popular belief.”
She blinked as he spoke of detentions. “Why am I not surprised? You’re just like my brother,” she added, slightly under her breath, before straightening up again. “Well, I’ll have to report you to a professor, if detentions aren’t enough.
“You make a vaild argument, prefect. But I’ll raise you one. If there were no troublemakers and rule breakers out there doing what they do best, then the system would be faulty. There would be no rules to enforce. Life would be boring. And you, miss, wouldn’t have the privilege of being one of the lucky few.” By ‘lucky few’ he meant prefects, something he never had a desire to be for obvious reasons.
Although he knew she didn’t mean for him to hear the first part about her sibling, he did anyways, and of course had to give her a hard time about it. “May I ask who your brother is? Maybe him and I could get into some ruckus together, hatch some schemes. Drive you crazy.” Donnovan bit his lip, wavering at the mention of a professor. He had to be on good radar for now until he could successfully find a way to smuggle his alcoholic product in. “What if you spare me this one? Call it a warning.”
Donnovan in a nutshell.
Addie appreciated him shifting his gaze, however, she was still rather uncomfortable with him sitting so close to her under the table. “Maybe I’ll just be avoiding the punch.” Honestly, this would’ve never happened in her muggle school. “You know my aunt is a professor, right? And I’ve never been good at keeping my mouth shut.”
He sucked on his teeth, debating the consequences and what would happen to him if she did indeed tell her aunt. “I’m assuming you wont tell... which one is she, then?” He was hoping it was a professor that he had fooled with his charm into liking him as a student.
“I find your speechless stare flattering,” he paused as he finished the last drag of his cigarette and then flicked it onto the ground, stomping it out with his foot, “and I also take that as a ‘no’ you won’t rat on me.”
Ariel and flounder
Ariel: Where do you think you belong, and why?
Donnovan knows full well that he is adopted. Although he is grateful for everything the Blishen family has given him, he doesn’t feel like he belongs there or in the Hogwarts/Wizarding community at all. He has heard rumors about his birth parents and how they weren’t the greatest of muggles so he can’t hep but feel like he belongs like them, a low life criminal.
Flounder: Something that surprised you and frightened you.
When Don was a younger boy, someone had tried breaking into the Blishen home for their money and expensive things. Although they had high security means in their house and the crook ended up getting caught before he could steal anything, it frightened him at the time because he was too young to do anything. However, Don doesn’t think about that much now because he too, sometimes, steals things.
Mulan!
Mulan: Do you trust your gut feeling? What happened.
Donnovan gets a natural high on adrenaline. This is why he is always doing things that could get him in trouble. That being said, he more often than not, follows his gut feeling. He does this because he feels like he has nothing to lose, or he doesn’t care of what he has to lose. The most recent example of this is listening to Scorpius Malfoy when he gave him advice on which hidden corridor to take to Hogsmeade to smuggle in his alcoholic products. He wasn’t sure whether or not he could trust the prefect, figuring he might rat him out, but his gut feeling was to give him the benefit of the doubt and so far the plan has been going smoothly for him.
“What else?” Scorpius looked back at Donnovan, his face placid if a little pinched, “what else do you want there to be? One good deed in turn for another. Just pass the good will along.”
Even if he hadn’t given his express permission, there was little to no chance Scorpius would have turned Blishen in if he had caught him trying to smuggle in firewhisky. It was the quickest way to make enemies and even if he and Donnovan would never be best of friends, there was no use in closing doors that had never been opened in the first place.
“Just making sure you aren’t trying to pull a fast one, Malfoy.” Donnovan had to do a double take just in case Scorpius was in fact bluffing. The boy seemed pretty honest and come to think of it, Don hadn’t really heard of Scorpius ever screwing anyone over. “I owe you one, pal.” He brought his fingers to his temples for a friendly salute before heading in the opposite direction.
“Hey Malfoy!” He called out as he turned back around to face his Slytherin peer, now that he was a good distance away. “Cheer up, will ya?”
{end}
I would prefer that you didn’t.
But if I am really in your way I suppose I can go over there.
“I like my personal space when I study, mate. I’m sure you understand.” Truth was, Donnovan was only pretending to study one of his subjects. Instead he was mapping out the One Eyed Witch corridor into Hogsmeade. That’s where he would be smuggling in his alcohol product and whatever else he could sell to the student body of Hogwarts. The last thing he needed was for somebody to see what he was actually doing and rat on him.
“That is.. really not what I meant when I asked you to hand over the cigarettes,” she frowned, ready to just pull the cigarette out from his mouth. She set the one given to her down gingerly. “Do you really feel the need to smoke? I can give out detentions, you know.”
“I know what you meant, princess..” his voice lingered as he took one last long drag of the lit cigarette and flicked it on the ground, putting it out with the sole of his shoe. “Bad habit.” He was talking about the smoking, though he had no plans to stop.
Taking a step back, he put his hands up in defense as if she had won the battle. “Happy?” Although he had put out the cigarette that she had asked him to, he had no plans on her confiscating his whole pack and he bent over to pick up the one that she had put down so it wouldn’t go to waste.
“Go head and give me a detention,” the accent in his voice heavy as he placed the almost wasted cigarette back in the pack and then tucked them away into his coat pocket, “I have plenty already.”
“I’m sure there was, but I don’t think it was you.”
“If it wasn’t me then someone definitely stole my signature act and I’ll have to hunt them down and teach them a lesson.” The tone in his voice was obviously one of a joke. “You should of said hi.”
Thanks.
I tried.
“Anything I can do to cheer you up?”
I can’t believe this.
“We can drink away our sorrows for losing the match.”
This is fine.
“Don’t cry on me, Ophelia. You played one hell of a game out there.”
“Are you just gonna keep sitting there and staring like a lost puppy or do I have to make you get up?”
“And to think I’d given you any benefit when it came to holding your tongue..” The blonde hissed, though in reality, even she couldn’t help but find some amusement in the situation. Not that she would ever give a hint to that being the case. “You’re foul.” Leaning forward, Lavinia’s nails dug into the others shoulder, her eyes sweeping down finally as the coast became clear. “Get out, get lost and if you ever mention the color of what you saw, I’ll be sure you spend your days wishing you had been born a squib. Even their sad lives would be more exciting than what I’d have in store. Go.”
“Woa woa, easy princess.” Donnovan winced as her nails pierced into his shoulder and he was forced to stand up by her surprisingly strong pull. He flattened down his clothes to let out any wrinkles that might have formed from being crouched over and gained his composure. “Since you covered for me, it’ll be our little secret.” He winked at her as he started to walk away, taking backwards steps. “You truly are my hero. How can I ever repay you?” He had to get out one last taunt at her before he left completely because she made it too easy.
“Even if it’s for all the wrong reasons?”
“Wrong can be so, so good.”
