It would appear someone in Germany has a similar passion for the projectors that manage our infrastructure.
Light dependance is multinational.
If you're in NYC, I want you to go to see this for me. Please and thank you.
I like Pieter Hugo's work. It'll be fun, I promise.

Bleachers, Stafford Springs, CT
This was shot in the same outing as this. Unless this is a separate trip to Stafford Springs.
Couldn't find a picture of the rear of the Charger, but this machine reads 'Track Approved' on the bumper.
"Stranded is a meditation on the despondence of the American psyche as this collapse of certainty left the country stuck in an unfamiliar space between distress and relief. In this series the car serves as both figurate symbol of American destiny and a literal representation of the personal breakdowns on the road to that promise. The images live in the road photography tradition of Robert Frank, Stephen Shore and Joel Sternfeld, but where they sought to capture the American experience through "the journey," my photographs seek to tell the story of this time through the journey interrupted. " - Amy Stein Similar work, different take.
A new project finally begins. I've actually wanted to work on this for a couple years now.
For me it's all about the open ended narrative of the abandoned car. It provokes the question about transitive spaces, automobile culture, and our relationship to property.

Today I learned that at one time there were whole photographic firms. Awesome.

To say that I like Meyerwitz's work would be an understatement.

Garry Winogrand, 1957
One of my all time favorite photographers. Fell into his work when I believed in street photography. Obviously it was an adolescent admiration for the archetypal street photographer style he had - it's easier to ask for forgiveness than ask permission. Or maybe it was his always shooting practice that I admired. Honestly, it was almost certainly the parallel to Bukowski that appealed to me. Strong work ethic, producing a running commentary on the world - oh and women.
This image has stood out in my mind for some time. It's divergent from what I expect from his work. Almost striking a New Topographics chord, some two decades early.

This image is part of his larger portfolio, St. Louis and the Arch.
This color photo was falling apart when I saw it at the MFA. The color had faded so completely that they were unwilling to show it in an exhibition space - so I was really lucky to get to put my face inches from it.

A long term project, James Dow has been documenting America for many decades now. The link takes you to the project, something I'm really into right now. This image is a contact print I got to see at the MFA.
