Funny or Die
Perfect pairing.
Two Things
1. I am so lucky to genuinely love the Paper Towns movie. (If I didn’t, you’d know, because I wouldn’t be talking about it much.) Actors have to go and promote stuff regardless of how they feel about the movies–it’s in their contracts–and I was just thinking today about how miserable that whole process would be if you didn’t actually like the movie.
But I am really, really excited about this night-before-opening-night event, which will basically be a livestream beamed into a few hundred theaters that are premiering the movie at the same time. The whole cast will be together, and Nat and Alex will play songs, and Hank will hopefully be there, too, and I’m just really excited to celebrate the movie with so many of the people who made it and so many of the people who really care about the story. I’m really grateful to Fox for setting that up.
2. The Looking for Alaska movie has been such a long and at times tortuous road in the past 10 years since Paramount acquired the rights. To be honest, a lot of times I’ve wished I could get the rights back to prevent there from ever being a movie, because the story is so personal and I know it’s also an important story to lots of readers, and I don’t want to mess up their relationship with the book or its characters.
But then I also can’t really wish that in good conscience, because the Alaska movie deal was the most important money we ever made–it allowed us to move to New York so Sarah could go to grad school and pursue the career of her dreams. So a lot of times in the past decade I’ve felt like having to deal with the possibility of a movie was, you know, the price of that particular deal with the devil.
But I find myself now actually excited about the movie. I think Weber and Neustadter (the same people who adapted TFIOS and Paper Towns) wrote an amazing script, and Wyck and Isaac will help produce it like they did for the other movies, and now we have a director I can feel genuinely excited about. Becca gets Alaska–she wrote me this letter that just made it clear to me that she gets it way deep down, and if you’ve seen her movie Electrick Children you’ll know she has a really cool visual imagination. I am not by nature optimistic, but I think it could be a really great movie. So yay for Becca!!!
Tickets are now on sale at NightOnTheTowns.com to the special #NightOnTheTowns event for #PaperTowns! Be one of the first to see the movie and there will be a live simulcast of a Q&A with Nat Wolff, Cara Delevingne, Jaz Sinclair, Halston Sage, Justice Smith, director Jake Schreier, producer Wyck Godfrey, and me.
There will also be performances from Saint Motel and Nat & Alex Wolff, and everyone will receive exclusive movie swag. Only a month to go! SO EXCITED FOR EVERYONE TO SEE IT!!!!!
NERDFIGHTERIA CENSUS 2015
Time for another Nerdfighteria Census and I’d like this one to be a little different. I don’t want to just learn about Nerdfighteria, I want to learn about the world. So we’re going to be opening the census up to science! If you have a research project you would like to do that would be aided by having 100,000 people answer a question (or two or three) please email us at [email protected] with the subject CENSUS.
This will mean that there will be some questions that will be unrelated to Nerdfighteria in the census, but it will also maybe get us into some published research!
California’s already so famous. That’s why you need to be a stop on the ‘Get Lost Get Found’ tour! Favorite and reblog to vote! One note = one vote!
John and Hank get together for the very first time to answer to answer a bunch of questions. Will we go to Ava’s wedding? What college major will help the world most? Have you ever peed on your own head? Will humans eventually colonize the galaxy? What’s going on with Mars? Also…AFC Wimbledon?!

I’ve been calling you people tumblypoos since 2011.
I find it odd that people only just now seem to be realizing that I am a dork.
