My little one learned to play piano this year so naturally this year’s ornament is a piano that plays Fur Elise. Had to do a little makeover first though. We have standards in this family. Here’s a before and after.
Halloween things I made.
Last week’s project was these Halloween pajamas and an Addam’s family pillowcase for my new way too big pillow. The pillowcase fabric is so cute, it has the family members on tarot cards! It’s from JOANN. Striped fabric is from Joann as well and has been in the Halloween section for the past few years. Pajamas are made from a Halloween knit that is from Joann but had to be ordered online. I used a vintage pattern from 1970 for the top but added piping and re-shaped the lapel. For the shorts, I just used a simple pajama pants pattern that I’ve used a million times but cut it into shorts. Im so happy with how these turned out.
Not my usual kind of craft but I customized these tech decks for my daughter’s birthday to look like boards from Sk8 the Infinity. This anime has completely stolen her heart. I didn’t have a lot of time but they turned out alright :)
This last few days, I have been working on this little top for fall. And when I say fall, I mean right now. Summer isn’t real, it was made up by the patriarchy. I pretty much ad libbed this. I only had a general idea in my head what it was going to look like but I am so happy with how it turned out. I especially love the way the back looks.
A while back I drafted a basic bodice block, following a tutorial on YouTube. I’ve never known how to draft patterns before. I used that block this time and instead of adding darts, I gathered at the shoulders. I watched another tutorial in order to learn to draft a collar and the sleeve pattern this time around. I didn’t actually create a pattern I will save for this but it was really helpful to know how to draft rather than just winging it.
The fabric and buttons are from Joann. The pattern drafting tutorials I watched were all on Thuy Sewing. It’s all visual so it’s best if you have some knowledge going in but I found these really clear and helpful. There are also lots of other options on YouTube if hers don’t work for you. It has really improved my sewing to learn the basics of pattern drafting.

Test run for Faerieworlds. Hopefully I will actually remember to take photos of the real thing tomorrow. 🧚♀️
I never remember to take really good pictures when I’m finished with a project but I still always want to share. I made this Elvin fairy headpiece for a friend’s daughter. i’m so happy with how it turned out. The horns are yarn wrapped around a paper and wire armature. I primed and painted them after. The mushrooms are air dry clay and acrylic paint. All the flowers are real. I never throw flowers away so my house is covered in dry flowers, no shortage there. I built a simple scaffolding on a headband and then just hot glued everything on. It is surprisingly sturdy! The last picture is the back.
My beloved dress form, Marty has been leveled up! She was just a cheap Styrofoam store display dress form from Amazon. I decided to make the BootStrap dress form but use her as a base. All in all it turned out amazing. She is my exact measurements and I can’t wait to make some thing on her. Obviously I made this entirely differently than you’re supposed to because I used the Styrofoam base. I also made it shorter than the pattern cuz I didn’t need the length. It is a bit tricky for someone in the itty bitty committee because the cups don’t allow for a lot of shape if they are shallow. But I think they are going to work just fine. I’m also definitely going to have to add some markings because the seams are not centered after going through the stuffing process. I already had the mannequin, the fabric, and the stuffing. I only paid for the pattern and the whole thing took maybe five or six hours. Totally worth it if I end up using it on a regular basis! Marty and her skeleton girlfriend are very happy with the results 🖤
let’s run away and don’t ever look back

I don’t do much hand stitching but I’ve been pretty much on the sofa or in bed for two months so I took a few days to hand sew this little guy for my kiddo. I love the way he turned out and it was pretty enjoyable to make.
Pattern from Kosucas on Etsy. They have so many rad patterns if you enjoy hand stitching.
Your eyes water when you speak sometimes, green shimmering with dew like morning grass. Writing the color of your eyes is an amateur move. A cliche until it isn’t, entirely unworthy of the experience of being seen, being the subject of that full open love, that disarming wonder. Unworthy of the swell in me when the tide rolls in, blue rising in the dim light, looking up from where you’ve landed, cheek resting on my thigh, your hunger holds me rapt and I can’t look away.
Before and After
I got this very long cardigan at Goodwill, it was marked $10 but it was on a 50% off color so I got it for five bucks. I’ve been loving chunky sweaters so I upcycled it into the after. Sewing is incredibly therapeutic for me, I would say meditative even. I suffered a tremendous loss in November and have not sewn since. This was less than an hour’s work but it feels like a really big win. 🖤

This weekend’s other project will not be modeled 🖤
I had a insanely busy work week and to unwind, I spent the last couple days making this knit wrap dress. It’s sooo comfy. Do I look just a little like a Jedi? Yes. Is that an unexpected perk? Absolutely.
I made this a while back but I haven’t posted it yet. I’m trying to document most of my projects here. To be honest, I feel a little self-conscious in so much white but I do think it’s cute and it was really fun to make.
