Hi, Anxious friends
I’ve been struggling with my anxiety more and more lately. However, I’ve noticed a pattern. Anything to do with socializing gives me anxiety.
“Ice, why don’t you just seclude yourself and stick to one or two friends and close family?”
Well, I can’t. I don’t want to. Not because of the challenge of it, but because I am an extrovert, of sorts. I adore people, I think they’re wonderful, I think you’re wonderful, it’s all great. I may not trust that one person on the side walk to hold my wallet for some reason, but I’d love to have a conversation with them. Heck, I had a conversation with an older guy last week while we were waiting for a traffic light to change on a 4 lane road. I’m that one person who will gladly start a conversation with anyone about random things, maybe that dump pigeon that just pooped on someone’s umbrella, the insanity that someone would want to wear booty shorts in January, etc.
I’m great at making friends. I’m bad at keeping them.
Anyways, been struggling a lot lately, having a lot of thoughts I don’t want, need a place to get rid of them fast. I’ve started a journal. Or.... three.
One is solely to rant in, or lament, or cheer. Like a normal journal. I have a lot of notebooks laying around my house, most of the I obtained for free. Yay free stuff.
A second, one of those little flip notebooks that’s like 3ish inches (about a decimeter) by 5ish inches (2 decimeters about). I use this to write down everything that triggers my anxiety. It’s a long list. I need to remember to bring this with me whenever I finally go to the doctor and see if they can or will do anything about my head.
And finally, my third notebook. I can best describe this notebook as my soapbox journal. Things I want to stand up and shout to people, stuff I want to make known. But I can’t.
Having these notebooks has been helping some. At the very least, it isn’t hurting and I have an outlet that won’t get it’s feelings hurt. Yay.
Try it.
Anxiety, honesty, fear, etc.
Once again I need to get something out there, however I cannot put it in a place where I know my family and friends will see it. It is legal? Totally! Are others doing it already? Yup. Would those around me look down on me for posting such things? Highly doubt it, I tend to surround myself with encouraging people (for the most part). Would I gain the support I want/need from making such a post? Hopefully.
There’s just one big issue.
How is one supposed to tell everyone else around them how they unintentionally contributed to one’s anxiety?
How do I tell people that the reason I get so quiet and introverted after days/weeks/months of being loud and extroverted is them?
I can’t.
In case you couldn’t tell by now, this post right now is mostly about how I can’t tell people why I have anxiety.
I only realized a lot of the causes last week, in a conversation with an older nurse friend, who struggles with it herself. We were talking about my past in the area where I grew up, how socially awkward I was, how being home schooled in the middle of nowhere contributed to that.
I’ve even been officially diagnosed with anxiety recently too, which is nice to have on paper. But that’s another post.
Maybe I can think and pray on this for a while, and God will give me a solution to pass on to you.
#The frog is a part of him
Alright, time for everyone to learn.
This lesson is all about America’s wealth, which can then be (very) roughly translated to the wealth of the rest of the world. This was shown to me by my professor, and it is now being shown to you by yours truly, ice-under-the-fridge.
This is so, so very important for everyone to understand. I want you to look at this, and realize what is happening to our society, and world. A lot of you will look at this and understand. More won’t be able to look at this, because they have no access to a computer. A few will look at this and scoff, maybe even say “this is bullcrap!”.
The first image is of American wealth, and how 92% of the people inquired think it should look. The poorest of the poor are well above the poverty line, it isn’t even being used. Great! Awesome! Perfect! The rich have about 7x more money than the poor, but that’s okay because they worked for it. That is their hard-earned money.
The second image is what most of the inquired people think the American wealth distribution looks like. Worse, there is some poverty, holding about 5%, but overall it’s still not ~that~ bad. You can see a ghost line for the ideal on top of this chart.
Now it’s time for the big one. The one that smacked me in the face when I watched the video. Holy moly, I dropped my jaw, and you will too.
The last chart? This chart shows the actual American wealth distribution.
The poverty line is at 15.1%. That’s approximately 49,127,000 people.
The bottom 80% of Americans only have 7% of all of America’s wealth. SEVEN. PERCENT. Which means the top 20% have 93%.
There’s more.
You see that little chopped off bit, in the middle right of the screen, just above where it says “The Rich”? That isn’t a little extra. No, that belongs to the top 2-4%. Their money literally goes off the chart. They had to cut it off and put it to the side so you could see how much money they have.
Ready for this?
All the way to the right now. You see that rectangle with several rows? With one little guy chillin’ under them? He is the top one percent. He has so much wealth, that in order to see it all, they had to cut it TEN TIMES to fit the screen. All of that, held by 1% of the population.
This is why I am miffed.
Here is the problem. I am not currently able to think of what to do about it, other than encouraging the wealthy to stop their tax cuts or whatever, though you and I both know that will never work.
Help.

College
Alright, time for you to get some knowledge on college (yes, that was intended).
This weekend my baby brother was watching An Extremely Goofy Movie, and so I would see bits and pieces of it while I was watching my own show on my tab. In this movie, the main thing that bugged me (other than that one scene where it totally looked like Goofy was on drugs, surrounded by rainbows, happiness, himself in a rainbow wig and wacky sunglasses. That was just weird) was how badly college is depicted.
In the movie, Goofy’s son Max is going off to college with his pals, and they’re planning on participating in the College X Games, which is a skateboarding contest. There was a 5 time champion group that they really wanted to beat, Gamma-something-or-other. And then, in a sad twist of fate, Goofy loses his job and finds out that he has to have a college degree to get a job now, so he goes to Max’s school.
Alright, first thing first: If you choose to go away to college (you really do have a lot of choices! Get a job, trade school, overseas, out of state, far away but in state [depending on the size of your state/country], community college. It’s all there. You can do anything. You can even join the military, and they’ll pay for you to have an education after you serve. One option is even to just live with your parents, jobless or not, but I personally don’t recommend that one. You’re going to want to get out of the house eventually) and your folks don’t want you to leave, like Goofy with Max, talk to them. They need to understand that you’re a responsible adult now, and you need to learn to live on your own. If you’re a teen, it’s still the same thing, but you might be living with them or another trusted adult. Don’t let your parents convince you to give up your dreams, unless that is what you really want. Listen to them, talk to them, convince them.
Second thing: if you’re parents are like Pete, and they can’t wait for you to leave and get out of the house, you need to talk to them too. Make sure they realize that you’re still their kid and you’ll need their help. They can’t just toss you out into the world without a lifeline. Not cool man.
Third: focus on what’s most important to you, but make sure to leave enough room for everything else. Max did good (at least in the bit of the movie I watched, haven’t seen the whole thing in ten years) by keeping up with his studies, and focusing on skating at the same time. You’re at college to learn, that’s what colleges are for, what you’re paying a ton of money for. Don’t focus solely on the extra activities.
Fourth (there is going to be a lot of points in this post, sorry): if your parents choose to go back to school at the same school you go to, establish boundaries. You’re all adults, you have your own lives, but you can still be parent/child. My parents decided to go back to school, and it happened to be at the school that I go to now. It’s great, it really is. Last semester my dad and I had lunch together every Tuesday and Thursday, it was a great way to spend time together since we don’t live in the same house (or town) any more. This semester my mom and I found that we pass in the hall between classes every Monday and Wednesday, so we stand and talk for a few minutes before I go to class and she goes home. There is nothing embarrassing about hanging out with your parents at school. There really isn’t. Also, mom and I share a teacher and a classmate. That was cool.
Fifth, and this one is super important: Bullies. In the movie, the Gamma skating people were obviously bullies. The leader was super stuck up, one of his goons shot spit balls at Max in class, people made fun of Goofy’s 70s outfit, and so much more. Read this next part carefully. This. Doesn’t. Happen. At college, we’re all adults. We don’t make fun of one another, at least not normally. Now, I’ve never had any interaction with Greek groups, or party stuff, but at school itself, this doesn’t happen. At college, everyone either ignores each other or gets along well.
Sixth: While college is super stressful, it’s not nearly as bad as high school teachers make it seem. I don’t know what crazy experience they had, but that’s not the way it is. Really. You show up one minute late to class and you fail? Naw, the teacher doesn’t give a crap. Nor do any of the other students. The only thing I have ever had a (good) teacher say about this is to make sure you’re quiet and don’t distract other students. If you miss a day of school, some teachers will say that you’re in trouble for it, but literally the only ones I’ve had that are like this are the ones who shouldn’t be teaching for a multitude of other reasons. All of my teachers this year just want me to send them and email within the next day and let them know that I had to miss class, maybe a quick reason why. No doctor’s note needed (though, I have had teachers who require that, but once again that was a terrible teacher whom other teachers dislike).
Seventh: Dress code. There isn’t really one, at least that I know of, but don’t show up naked. Seriously, don’t. Wear clothes that you would be okay with your best friend’s grandparents to see you in. Basically, clothes acceptable for the public eye. Sometimes parents bring their children with them to class, and we don’t want that kid to be scarred for life. But again, there is no dress code, unless your school is weird. You can wear tank tops and hoodies, you can wear leggings and show your shoulders (*gasp!!!*). Some places might even be cool with crop tops, but they’re really not practical. Understand that some individual classes may have a bit of a dress code, but not often. For my speech class, it’s strongly recommended that you wear semi-professional clothing, basically a nice shirt, clean, dark jeans, etc. I have seen some business students walking around that have to wear a suit and tie, nursing students have to wear scrubs, dental students too. Don’t freak out. Also, you can show up in sweats and a giant, comfy sweater and no one will care. No one. We all understand the stress, sometimes wearing super comfy clothes is what you need. You can wear them all the time.
Now, I have a crap-load more to say, but I’m going to post this now so it isn’t super long. Love you all, bye.
But why are the aliens always such…. Pushovers? I mean. Everything I’ve seen so far is like, “oh, that is what human Sarah does that’s cool even though it’s 100% against my very instincts.”
Just… Gimme some “Human Sarah while you are on my ship bearing your teeth and “hugging” are both prohibited. I understand you do this to show joy, but you could cause the Rythverians on the ship to eat their offspring and vomit out their spleens. Please be respectful of your crew members’ different races.“
Or
“Oh, I see. So by tapping my nails on the table when I’m bored it causes your alien brain to completely shut down? Kind of like that time I got way too drunk at a high school party and woke up in a tree?” Human Jack looked at Vropne with big curious doe eyes.
“In lamens terms, yes, I suppose. But please stop referring to me as an alien. I’m a Sytrian and you are on MY home planet.”
…..
I mean…just… Idk
Edit: also…. Why do all the aliens have to have tentacles? Why?
Because nine tickles isn’t quite enough, and eleven tickles are too much.
We don’t even need a disney remake of Mulan. Look at this.
I would totally watch more Disney reboots if children from the actual ethnicities were cast in those movies.
Oh my gooooosh this is so cute!!!
We need to have this for all the movies! At least the princess movies...
Having a tattoo is now so common that it’s become mainstream, which makes people without tattoos inherently more rebellious
Exactly.
thank god for the mythbusters though because it used to be that whenever i knew i had insomnia i’d just kind of accept it and stay up doing whatever until my morning classes and spend the day feeling like shit
but then they did an episode where they established that even just fucking laying there for a half hour, not even sleeping just laying there and not even for an hour, makes a significant difference and you’ll feel way better
it has made a huge difference in my life to know that it’s okay if i can’t fall asleep, it takes a lot of the pressure off and ironically helps me fall asleep better
…i did not know this, thank you
If anyone wants to look it up, the episode was specifically the Deadliest Catch crossover ep, and the myth was that it’s better/safer when working a 30 hour shift to take a 20 minute nap every six hours rather than try to power through. They did an obstacle course test, one without naps and one with, and even though they couldn’t even sleep half the time the naps resulted in their scores doubling.
So actually I undersold it, even if it’s 7:40 and your alarm goes off at 8 just lie down and shut your eyes and it will still be better than nothing
This is what my mom always tells me: “You’ll rest even when you’re just lying down”. Good to know for everyone who has problems sleeping.
@knightinironarmor
Every time someone says to me “Did you just assume my gender?” I look them in the eye and say “Yes.” No grin, which is normal for m to have. No sarcastic tone, which again is normal for me to have.
Because every time this happens, there is literally so much evidence for the fact that they are in fact male and identify as such (it’s always been a guy saying it to me). For one of them, I’ve known him for 19 years, vast majority of my life. For all these guys, we were in an environment where you have to be open and honest about your gender and sexuality and all that because they don’t allow transgenders or anything like that there.
Plus they were rooming with several other guys. And just have guy qualities (ever heard of the nothing box? I know these guys have it.)
So, yes. I did just assume your gender. I assumed that it was the same one it has been for the last 19 years and you still act the same way you have these last years. Yes, I did assume your gender because that is what you wrote on your form.
Good day, sirs.
“Finally” is pronounced as ‘Final - e’ but “finale” is pronounced as 'fi - nally’
Sometimes I question English. Quite often, actually.
Carrot juice is technically orange juice.
Still don’t like it. I don’t think it freezes as well as orange juice.
Time for a funny story
I was so happy to find a bra size DDD at Goodwill that was colourful AND cheap that I bought a candy from the register and then zipped down to the drugmart to buy a 3 pack of boxers because I wanted to try them out. That’s a new one.
For Incoming High School Freshman
A friend asked for advice on facebook, I answered with whatever came to mind, and when I was done I realized that it was actually pretty good. So here you go.
Take it one day at a time, but also be prepared for the future. What I mean by that is, don't stress over the things that haven't happened yet, and prepare for that test/paper/whatever so that you aren't stressing about it the night before. Find friends you can trust. Find people that an adult you look up to would be happy to meet and approve. I'm not saying that you actually need to do that, but look for those people. Find a senior, (really, any upper classman) and ask them for advice specific to your school. Find out which teachers you need to be careful with, which ones you can go to and ask for help. Figure out which class will have a ton of homework, or the hardest homework and get that done first. The classes that will be a breeze to get hw done, leave them for later. Just make sure you do it!!! If you have the chance for extra credit TAKE IT. Pray, talk to God, talk to a trustworthy person when you're frustrated, ask for help. You'll need to do all of that. You can do this :)
Does anyone else ever get random, tiny sores on their tongue? I mean, I’m going to tell my doctor about it, but I’m curious to know.
Morgan Freeman’s voice
So I was texting my best friend, and we were talking about Bob Ross’s voice and how I’ve never watched one of his videos. BF tells me is voice is amazing, so I ask if it’s better than Morgan Freeman’s voice. He typos Freeman’s name, making it “morgasn”. I look at it and think “Morgasm. That should be a thing”. GUYS. MORGASM. Is that not perfect for that sweet, honeyed voice? Let’s make this a thing.
Alright y’all. So my best friend and I made a deal. If this post gets 100 notes by next year (I forget the date I posted, so we’ll say today, 4-23-17) I have to buy him supper. I never have any reblogs, so I highly doubt it will happen, but come on and do it anyway!
