Making the Byers and Wheelers live together really is the perfect way for the writers to continue ‘guiding’ the general audience into why it was always Byler, and why Mike would be the one to have a harder time opening up about his feelings towards Will.

Literally contrasting the nuclear-family against the unconventional one by having them all share the same space, so that when Byler finally happens it’ll be like, “of course! Of course it makes sense that Mike couldn’t just say how he felt with a father like Ted! Of course Joyce would be the one to love and comfort Will no matter what. Of course Mike was trying to emulate the idea of what an ‘acceptable’ relationship is supposed to look like because of the way his own parents probably judged Joyce (because let’s face it, Ted probably has ‘opinions’ about her 🙄.)

Like, they’re once again going to be giving everyone an opportunity to truly UNDERSTAND that Byler didn’t come out of nowhere. They’re banging pots and pans to pay attention at this point!!! lol
