There and back again
After a year or more, I’m trying out tumblr again. I miss seeing high def photos and artwork and things. Hopefully, I can commit.
Just random pictures of my last day in Dublin. All my favourite spots:
- My huge white table at home, full of paints, brushes, books, pens, inks... The white makes a decent background for pics :D Currently, there are fewer bits and bobs on the table because I’ve been packing everything, apart from a few essential things.
- My moleskine watercolour book - I’ve been trying to capture as many places as I can. Places that mean a lot to me.
- I was walking past the Disney Store, when one of the workers called out to me and asked if I wanted to do the honours of opening the store for the day. Of course I’d love to! They made a tiny procession, carrying out a huge Disney key from inside and handed it ceremoniously to an excited me. With my two hands, I turned the key in the huge lock, heard a click and ta-da! the store’s opened. For that tiny unexpected job, I received a miniature version of the key :)
- Murphy’s nutty crunchy peanut sundae is amazing. As are their sea salt ice cream and brown bread ones.
- Of course, my beloved Love is Art Atelier. After a tall glass of iced matcha and a slice of lemon mascarpone cake, I snuggled into the comfy couch a tad longer than usual and read my secondhand book. I just wanted to savour the atmosphere a bit more. Finally, it was time to say goodbye. Hugs. As a farewell, they gave me matcha powder “so that you can make your own matcha latte, when you’re away”.
- Roof top garden at the Chester Beatty Library. Initially, I thought it was always locked, because I couldn’t open the door. “You need a bit of elbow grease” said the helpful gentleman downstairs. I really like the little spot. It’s quiet and calm. Maybe because not many people know it’s there. The library itself is amazing, having an eclectic mix of middle eastern, eastern, and western manuscripts and books. Currently, there’s an exhibition of the Ruzbihan Qur’an :)
- LUSH :)
Of mosses, cows, and komorebi
I started the day taking out my watercolour palette and painting the Plitvice lakes, adding turquoise, green, blue… It’s a calming feeling, getting up early and seeing the sun start to shine through the huge front window. A small breeze would be blowing the white curtains. And I paint.
A bit later, I joined Aimee, house hunting in Portlaoise - found a perfect place in front of the future work place.
We took a short break at Costa’s (tomato and cheese toastie and a refreshing glas of ice blended green tea, lime and mint). Simply amazing methinks. Outside, the sky was playing with us. Sun, a bit of rain, a bit of wind, clouds... typical spring/summer.
Using maps.me, we navigated to Clonaslee, searching for Brittas Forest, to do a bit of hiking. The car park was a tiny space near the entrance. Soon, we were walking under pine, oak, birch and sycamore trees. Throughout the whole walk, we were accompanied by thrush, wrens and a cacophony of other birds which I could not identify. I did keep my eyes peeled out for the old fox/badger… No such luck.
The river was a small, bubbly thing. Every now and then, the sun glinted off the water. I love the komorebi effect on the forest ground so much :) We encountered a herd of milking cows in the middle of the forest, and they kept staring at us the whole time. Curious at seeing two strangers gingerly walking around bits of muddy spots, while trying to avoid the wet noses of said cows. Yes, one kept sniffing at Aimee :D After a couple of pictures with the cows, the herd finally became uninterested in us, and walked up the small slope and disappeared into the trees and meadow nearby.
The other highlight of the walk was seeing all the beautiful moss-covered tree trunks, fallen logs and stones. The moss felt soft, springy, and a bit damp from the light rain earlier. They were also surrounded by blue bells and dandelions, swaying gently in the breeze.
A couple of butterflies flitted among the rays of sun, and if you imagine enough, and squinted your eyes just so, you can almost perceive them as wee beings dancing an intricate dance. I can spend a long time there, just watching nature play out in front of me. Hearing the birds chirp and chatter, the rustle of the leaves, the trickle of water and feeling the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the wind against my face.
We walked uphill and the sky changed again. Large, dark clouds opened up and pelted hail for a few minutes, before the rain and sun took their turns again. Looking down, I could see the forest, small and comel.
I spotted a tiny figure in between the stone walls and it turned out to be a tiny doctor figurine, left by an adventurous kid, maybe.
Walked around the lake and watched ducks for a while.
After three hours of walking and climbing, getting the camera in and out of my bag (because of the rain), we approached a clearing, where other humans can be seen. Yes, we finally reached the end of our short expedition.
Hunger brought us to the one and only cafe in the village. We were interrupted now and then by a curious gentleman, asking where we’re from, whether we’re attached or not, how Dublin’s like... The thing that made me want to snort with laughter was “Are you girls farmers?” I guess not many people venture out here. And we look like farmers, maybe :D
Indeed, an eventful day. Oh, we stopped by Kildare Village and I bought a Goodbye Eire gift for me - a crossbody bag for my art stuff.
Hanami 2016
Highlights of the day:
- Seeing Trafalgar Law - Itsumo Nando Demo being played by three amazing musicians: Philip Horan (shakuhachi player), Junshi Murakami (harpist) and Sean Whelan (guitarist) <3 - Striking up conversation with random people, while waiting in line for the extremely expensive takoyaki, and finding out that they’re a fan of Studio Ghibli and Hunter x Hunter as well - The amazing weather - My name in my moleskine - Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms, magnolia, daisies... - Talking about religion with an inquisitive stranger - People in beautiful, colourful yukata. The kids are adorable, macam pau. - Taiko drums
I missed the bon odori dance though. And the chance to wear a yukata...

Short video of one of my rambles :)
I love spring :)
My favourite cafe
Dippy :)
I’m using an easter bunny napkin holder as my brush holder :)
Practicing from the 30-minute water colour book..
One of the best places to explore. Got all excited, staring at Dippy the diplodocus <3 Again, I was reminded of the old Hancock Museum, all those years ago, when they had dinosaurs on display. That triggered the palaeontologist dream in me (which remains a dream haha). Guess nearly every kid wants to work with dino bones.
The architecture’s also awe inspiring. I wanted to take pictures of nearly every little piece of brick. Nearly.
London was a while ago, when I had just finished a certain course. I decided to stay an extra day, just to explore the art stores and this amazing museum. I had the most amazing time there, and wished that I had an extra day to peruse a few other places.
London Graphic Centre was a feast to my eyes. Affordable Winsor and Newton, finally! I also found a few watercolour stitch-bound books and the beautiful Dr Ph Martin hydrus inks. Feeling all bubbly with excitement still, at the thought of using all of them.
OK, enough gushing.
Second version of Granmamare. Just simply adore her :)

My first reblog?
I used to watch The Animals of Farthing Wood all the time as a kid, despite the gore. All because I love the art work.
In other news, I passed! :) It took me longer than I thought it would, but finally, I’m done. I feel like calling and thanking everyone who has helped me along the way. From my family, friends, the patients and docs, the lady who cooked breakfast for me at the B&B, to the author who gave me a poem on keeping up my spirits and being all ganbatte!... yes, everyone. Most of all, thank you Allah :)
Now I can paint to my heart’s content. And do other lovely things such as
- visit the Galway Food Festival :D - read up on Hajj - read non work related things - walk around and explore the city a bit more - watch the sky and clouds like shikamaru
:D
Practicing with watercolours. I really adore spring :)
I haven’t posted anything for ages. Been too busy with work. I’m out before 7am and home at around 10pm. Here are some One Piece perler beads I did back when I was a free human being.
I am off tomorrow :)
Acrylic on wood, for my imouto. Happy birthday!
As per Mr Gaiman,
I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.
