A limerick. Based on a true story.
I am reminded how I was absolutely struggling with the set of commands for having Spidey use his web in the PS4 game. So I just...made him walk.
Spouse was not impressed, lol.
I try and avoid engagementbait when I can but look at his EYES
the only eyes it's right to describe as orbs
sorry if you've been asked this before, but what are some doberman breeders you personally trust? ive been saving up for years to get my own puppy, and i have already done research on a lot of breeders myself, but i would love your input too. if it matters at all, im looking for a pet, not a show dog, though i will be doing a lot of training :3
I don't do breeder recs because literally every time I do them- or even get this question- I get a frankly stupid amount of ridiculous drama and I'm very done with it at this point.
What I will recommend is doing your own research and making sure to buy from a breeder who is doing the following:
Fully health testing their breeding dogs. Embark! Is not! Enough! The dogs need to have their hips and elbows (shoulders preferred not required), eyes, kidneys livers and thyroids, and also most importantly have their hearts holtored and echo'd, as well as genetic tests for DINGS, vWD, and the DCM markers. ALL of these should be done, but the most important is truly the heart testing. If the heart testing is missing, I would 100% pass on that breeder. Over 50% of the breed dies from cardio problems with the majority of those deaths being DCM-related. There is no cure and no preventative or predictive method for ridding the breed of DCM, but it also causes sudden death, so doberman breeders NEED to be doing the best they can to make sure they are keeping on top of their dogs' heart health.
Some sort of breed-specific temperament testing. In dobermans there are several- the WAE, the ATT, the breed survey, some form of bitesport, some form of police/military/border patrol testing, etc. Remember that the doberman was created to be and always has been a breed for biting. "They are therapy dogs" is not breed-specific temperament testing. "They are good companions" is not breed-specific temperament testing. The breed is intended to bite. If you want a doberman, you want a dog that bites.
This requires a little pedigree knowledge, but personally I think it behooves everyone to look for breeders who are prioritizing pedigrees with higher -than-average lifespans (10+; average in the breed is 7.5 years) and who are prioritizing pairings that produce less than 30% COI. I also think you should see for yourself what the reported COD is for the dogs who have passed- any that seem very odd should be thought of as a DCM death (you wouldn't believe how many dogs in Russia are supposedly hit by lightning right at 5 years old...). Breeders that do necropsies on any dogs that die suddenly with no other explination (because otherwise it needs to count as a DCM death as that's DCM's calling card). And breeders that participate in projects related to genetic diversity and heart health.
Similarly this is less dog ethics and more human ethics but I think it is very important in this breed to make sure you are not buying from an obvious bigot. There are a lot, and I mean a LOT, of nazis and racists and klan members in this breed. This is not an exaggeration or hyperbole. There are literal nazis in this breed. There are literal klan members in this breed. There are a lot of QAnon people and Trumpers who support them. And there are a lot of homophobes, transphobes, racists, antisemites, islamophobes, xenophobes, and misogynists in this breed. There is a guy who labels himself a wonderful family-oriented breeder who is a convicted pedophile. No, seriously, the case is public record and he was charged with the kidnapping and assault of a minor while he was in his mid-20s. You need to be careful, and you need to not just trust what people tell you about themselves.
I grew up on the dobie rescue side for most of my life, and it's so good to see a post highlighting a lot of what a breeder would have to do/be (pun intended) to get my respect. The breed is popular with people who want to have intimidating looking dogs, and being aware of who those people might be is very important. My only hesitation would be breeders who specialize in bitesports - but that’s a cross between me being more used to the more mellowed american lines (I know the temperaments between american / euro lines are a huge delta) and having yet to have a good interaction with schutzhund/bitesport trainers. I've seen so many health problems in the various dobies we had come through over the years. There were several litters we had turned in to us by the shelters that we could guess were related back to breeders dumping dogs that were known to be trying to push for the z-factor gene, meanwhile we’d be talking to other breeders who were working their butts off to ensure no z-factor. It always felt like a frustrating tug of war. I’ve been very lucky my retired girl here will be 10 early next month. Man tho, 100% on the staying out of dog community drama.
One does not have to specialize in bitesports. The WAE was made for show dogs, same with the ATT. The breed survey is both show and protection, and the one I didn't mention because it's virtually impossible to get it in the US nowadays is the ZTP also made for show dogs. Just to clarify!
There's a reason I included them and it's because even a show breeder should be producing dogs that can pass their breed specific temperament tests, *especially* ones intentionally made to be passed by show dogs that have minimal if any protection training.
Ah! Thanks for clarifying that. That’s a much better understanding to me, breed-specific temperament testing I get for sure with them. I don’t think about the WAE very often despite watching some of the DPCA events in the past. We don’t exactly get the cream of the crop on the rescue side by nature of rescue. XD

Currently my cat is quite grumpy.
We recently screened in a tiny side porch which already had a slide-covered cat door on the door to it. My cat is indoor-only, but understands cat doors since that’s how her bathroom is set up, so she understands this little door - when open - leads to the new room that she can watch birds from. The rules so far is that she can’t be out there without one of us either with her or outside, because she’s fearless and quite dumb. She does not understand that I have no interest in sitting out in 94% humidity this morning with her and that she’s too dumb to realize she needs too come back inside.
I am just stoked with this little guy. I *really* hope that Bandai continues the MGSD line, just a wonderful balance to me of the cute 3-4 head range SD design with the detail and flexibility of an MG kit. I haven’t even done any panel lining, paint, or gotten the waterslides (my one complaint is the kit by default comes with stickers, which I hate). So damn cute and posable. Works great with an Action Base 2 stand too. I took a break from my cyber forest mermaid girl to work on this kit, just so much fun to work on.
I probably should return to tumblr-posting now that some of my life seems to be stabilizing in its own chaotic way and I’m not happy with pretty much any other major social media platform right now. So yeah, if you haven’t seen me before, nice to meet you! I mostly go by Ice Mutt in some variation of spaces or underscores, you’ll find me around Ball-Jointed Dolls, plamo (mostly girlpla kits), Ehlers-Danlos/disability discussions, and service dog chats...sometimes some others. Oh, and sometimes I write about games. I should get my website functional so I can actually share those.
Sometimes my old retired lady decides that being retired is awfully boring and insists on going out for a few hours of work. She doesn’t have the same endurance she used to so we keep it short and mostly to familiar places.

We need to embrace the fact that the tumblr userbase is aging. What’s everybody’s favorite kitchen appliance?
the fun of managing to get the email you had your tumblr attached to unlocked again finally after two years only to find that tumblr apparently removed all dates from shit. aaaugh.
How to interact with a service dog
Don’t.
That’s it.
This has been a PSA
i dont get what this post means
service dogs are doing a job and usually people want to pet them but then theyll interrupt the job the service dog is trained to do. so the rule of thumb is dont interact with a service dog unless the owner says you can
YEET idc I’m petting the dog anyways
Okay, well.
You shouldn’t pet strangers’ dogs without asking either.
In Boston while waiting for the T, there was a woman with her service dog in full gear also waiting. Two young women went right up to the dog and the moment one of the women reached out to pet the dog, the older woman slapped her hand away and said “My dog is working, do NOT pet.” And I smiled because those young women were in the wrong.
If you came up to my dogs and didn’t ask to pet them, I would slap your hand away, and they’re not even service dogs.
If you pet my service dog without permission, you are stopping him from doing his job.
One of my dog’s jobs is detecting seizures. He gives me a few minutes warning. If he can’t warn me because he’s distracted, I could fall and hit my head.
I could die of a head injury because I wouldn’t have time to find a place to sit and sit down.
But, hey, a stranger gets to pet my dog.
I guess that’s worth it. /sarcasm
Seriously, this is why you DO NOT FUCKING TOUCH A SERVICE DOG
Here’s an article on what happened when someone pet a service dog and it DID distract the dog resulting in the owner suffering a seizure and injuries.
For anyone who doesn’t feel like reading, here is the key points:
Hailey has multiple illnesses including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and epilepsy. Her service pup in-training, Flynn, has the important task of alerting her roughly 10 minutes before she has a seizure. This gives her time to find a safe place so that she does not injure herself while seizing.
Although the other human meant no harm, her action nearly resulted in tragedy. Because Flynn was distracted, he failed to give Hailey proper notice of her seizure. By the time he was able to alert her, it was already too late. “My service dog is my lifeline. I don’t say that to be cute. He helps keep me alive just like life support. If he gets distracted this happens. If he gets distracted I can die. Do not pet service dogs. Do not call to service dogs. Do not taunt service dogs. Do not talk to service dogs. Do not do anything to service dogs.”
1) Would you grab a person’s wheelchair and start rolling it forward and back for your own amusement? Would you randomly touch someone’s hearing aid while it’s in their ear? No? Then don’t pet someone’s service dog!
2) Don’t pet anyone’s dog unless you have the owner’s permission. If the dog gets nervous around strangers and you invade its personal space it might bite you out of fear, which could lead to the dog being put down. Not to mention it’s just disrespectful. Asking takes about five seconds. Just do it.
Signal boosting! A service dog is a working dog, and they need your respect more than your affection. If you want to deliver a compliment, let their human know what a great job they’re doing. It will be appreciated.
In my state (and many others), petting is considered an “intentional distraction” of a Service Dog. Intentional distraction is a felony.
what’s christmas even like in non-christian families? in completely non-religious families? like what do you tell your children? “well, kids, we’re eating a whole lot of food and spending a fuckton of money spoiling you because some other people somewhere believe their holy lord and saviour and the greatest person to walk the earth was born 2000 years ago. here’s a playstation.”
yeah pretty much
i legit didnt know non-christians celebrated christmas… literally never crossed my mind
We do, and basically it’s like “Hey kids, let’s decorate a tree, exchange presents, eat a fuckload of food, and get a picture with the creepy mall Santa that probably will be arrested next week”. I didn’t even know it was a religious holiday until I was 9
Christmas was celebrated here (in Norway) for several thousand years before Christianity got here. There was literally nothing Christian about it in the beginning, the Christians just figured it’d be easier to say that Jesus was born on a day that was already celebrated than to make up a new holiday and force it on people
Pretty much every culture in the northern hemisphere has had a celebration in the fuck-all heart of winter purely because it’s depressing as fuck when it’s cold all the time and dark for 90% of the time
So long before jesus was born someone was like
“k it’s cold and dark and the view outside is literally identical to our concept of hell but I made you this candle stop being sad”
My family is secular (up including grandparents), but we use Christmas as kind of an excuse to give gifts, eat food. The lights and trees are kind of a fun addition as the ornaments hold family history and it’s mostly just a fun way to keep kids involved with their peers (on sharing the Santa side at least). But there’s no religious side for us, though we were let know as kids about other families’ beliefs and how they treat the month of December and to be generally respectful of everyone. “Happy Holidays” is my default until Christmas day itself due to how much reminding of “other people do different things” in my house.
In the end, I think Thanksgiving tends to be of higher priority in my family, and once we were past “a rabbit shows up and drops off candy” age, Easter doesn’t have much of anything going on for us. So at least via Santa and the Bunny, we had some connection to our peers as children.
god it’s so annoying how delusional ass conservatives act like millennials are “offended by everything” for standing up to things like blatant racism and sexism, meanwhile there’s a conservative outrage every time starbucks releases a cup without “merry christmas” on it
THERE IS A PETITION TO STOP THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE FROM VOTING FOR TRUMP
For those of you who don’t know, the Electoral College has the final say in December. It’s only happened once or twice, but sometimes they vote against a candidate who’s already “won”. Candidates can win the popular election and still lose the electoral college’s election. THIS IS OUR LAST SLIVER OF A CHANCE TO KEEP BUTT TRUMPET OUT OF OFFICE!
There’s been multitudes of posts going around, talking about fighting back, never giving up, doing what’s right.
ITS TIME TO WALK THE WALK:

OVER 600,000 SUPPORTERS ALREADY. IT’S DAY 2. BOOOOOOOST.
over 1.5 MILLION now!
Do not leave Pence out of the Anti-Trump narrative
I try not to get political on my art blog, but I am gonna share this sentiment from my twitter.
It’s nice to hear “Fuck Trump” but piling all hate on him is misguided, Trump is not the only person who should be factored into protests, impeachment and human rights lawsuits: his team DEFENDED him and ENABLED him. There are a lot of people who either played down, ignored or supported his conduct
Fact is, if Trumps impeached, all the people who helped his campaign will flip and agree and chastise him, cuz it’ll make them look noble, which they would LOVE, they get to sweep house and senate, have Pence be president, and pretend they’re on our side. “We hate Trump too, friends! We agree, he’s a bad man, let us fix his mess for you.” Think about it, anyone on his team right now looks really good by comparison to him. People who’re just as bigoted and heartless.
Do not forget that Vice President Pence is poised and ready to help anti-women and anti-LGBT legislation roll out and take away 50~ years of human rights progress. [source] And he just sat back and watched Trump be Trump, cuz all he cares about is getting his foot in the door – and we all just held it open for him and welcomed him inside. Slam it on his stupid foot, friends. Fact is, Pence is a hateful bigot, but he looks really good superficially next to Trump.
If we’re gonna support lawsuits for human rights violations, impeachments, etc, we can’t fixate on Trump alone. A lot of people made Trump happen via complacency and lies, with smiles on their faces.
Not My President… Not My Vice President.
Note: I genuinely don’t have time for debates or arguments on Tumblr even on my good days, so sorry if you wanted to engage me about this, even if you agree with me. I’m not ignoring people (unless, you know, insults), I just can’t give this more time. I have to get back to work and stuff.
Mike pence said literally that “cigarettes do not cause death.” He wants to fund gay conversion therapy. He is the literal embodiment of Satan.
Mike Pence caused an HIV crisis in 2015. In an age of STD tests and anti-retrovirals, Mike Pence’s attack on Planned Parenthood (meaning that in rural areas, there very often weren’t any places to get STD tests- the HIV wasn’t actually spread through sexual contact as much as it was injecting drugs- but no PP access meant no testing that could pick up on HIV) caused an actual HIV crisis.
And his response? “I’ll pray for them.” Later, he did authorize a needle exchange, but his first response wasn’t “I’ll take actual legislative action because holy shit, people are dying,” but “I’ll pray for them.” Pence and Trump are two very different kinds of dangers. I want to stop the political posting and just go back to my regular blogging, but I grew up in Indiana. I’ve seen what Pence’s terrible decisions have done to my friends and family, and as bad as a Trump presidency’s going to be, a Pence presidency might actually be worse.
