blue eyes open & widen a little almost instantly at ori’s words, thoughts that he was trying to keep from crossing his own mind since he was told robin was still in surgery not long after he woke up. benji turns his head, looking back to ori again, & shakes his head as ori goes on, both trying to tell him no & shake that scenario out of his, maybe even both of their heads. because he didn’t want to truly consider it, losing another one of them somehow. it was a small fear that made itself home in the back of his mind after vivi, one that he was mostly able to ignore. if he didn’t think it, speak it into exsistence, it could never happen, right ? the three of them would be together ( forever ? ) “ you can’t think like that, orion. ” though the name comes out firmly, his voice does waver a little, another sigh escaping him. “ it’s robin. she’s gonna be okay. she’ll get out of there & they’ll wheel her in here. ” who was he trying to convince more ? he leans his head back on the pillow, watching ori for another moment before speaking, voice a whisper. “ don’t talk like that. please. ”
a wince / can’t look at benji anymore, guilt creeps up on him but it barely makes a DENT in his anger and dread. “you need to rest. a l o n e. i don’t want to make you any worse” speaks softly, a contrast to the harsh words he’s spit so far but he can’t sit there anymore and make things worse. he loves robin so much that his heart stops, thoughts turning to everything he’s seen her do and survive over the years : she’s too tough to just die. and then he remembers he thought that about benji too, when his lungs burned as he ran to help them he had kept telling himself that benji would be fine, would LAUGH at him for being worried because benji was the son of avengers and he couldn’t be hurt so easily. he still ended up sitting by benji’s bedside in a med wing scared that if he even fell asleep for a moment benji would slip away. there are no guarantees in life, he’s known that since the day shield took him away, and no matter how tough robin is, she is not immortal. “you’re right. robin will be FINE, you’ll both be cleared by the end of the week, back on the plane. i’ll go ask a doctor, actually, and go check in with the base to see what they want done” there are so many plans in his head of what he could do, h o w to do them, but what matters right now is benji is okay “i love you - you know that, right ?”
