it’s my birthday and I’ve been thinking about how nothing will be the same anymore, like I’ll look back to those moments on my bike, in this era where I can still breathe air
where the houses look normal, made out of wood and the driveways are made out of concrete
there’s trees everywhere, the squirrels and dragonflies are all around the lawns
the sky is blue, not whatever colour it’ll be in the distant future, and the sun is warm on my face and not an entity to be feared just yet
I’m officially past the age of ‘no return’ (as if you can return to an age)
and I can’t help but wonder how I’d explain to anyone in that distant future, one that’s defined by the wars and epidemics and conflict and climate change, how freaking good we had it
it’s so simple right now, and I don’t want it to just become a memory one day
