It has been over a year since I saw Vinny. Vinny was my best friend. He is 17 and he left to be in the Army months ago. I got no calls, Emails, Letters. Nothing. It’s like he didn’t care about me anymore. He didn’t want anything to do with me. The Army in Afghanistan was bad now, And my thoughts of him not coming home everyday killed me.
“Mikey?” Nicolette called.
I was laying on my bed not wanting to get up, Dreading another day without Vinny.
“Come on, get up” Nicolette hit my door.
I didn’t move a inch, Not a sound came from my mouth. Not a movement from my body.
Nicolette signed and closed the door. I guess she was done trying to get me to get out of bed also.
I felt a bulge in my throat and my eyes start to sting.
No Mikey don’t cry. Don’t.
“MIKEY!” My mom yelled. ” The door is for you!”
It took me a second to gather my thoughts i slowly rose from my bed and brought myself back to look presentable at the door. I dragged my body downstairs and my mom looked at me.
“Oh god” She covered her face and ran into the other room.
I looked at the men at the door. “Whats going on?” My voice quiet.
All three of the men took off their hats and placed them at their chest, “Sir.” One man spoke softly. “We are terrible sorry, But your friend Vincent Castronovo, Was killed this evening.”
My breathing got faster as my eyes began to sting again. “No, NO!” I screamed and fell to my knees. The water pouring out of my eyes i kept screaming louder and louder until i felt someone fall next to me and hold me in their arms. I just screamed and cried. I broke free from my mother and ran up the steps, I slammed the door and just screamed, I opened my window and climbed to the roof, The stars were shinning brighter then ever, I couldn’t catch my breaths until i fell, I cried into my arm shaking at the coldness, I looked up at the sky.
“I-i-i never got to tell you how i felt” I yelled. ”I loved you more then a friend!” I finally screamed
I stopped breathing so hard and rested my head on my arm, “And now you’re gone, And i can never tell you how i really feel.”
This is beautifully heartbreaking.
