Their Son
He hadn't seen or heard anything of him in many years. The night James and Lily died Remus lost everything. The war might have ended, but it sure as hell didn't feel like that to Remus. The war had cost him everything, and for ten long years he had failed to move on. He kept longing back to long gone years and long gone people.
He thought of them every single day, and it hurt. And whenever he thought of James and Lily, his thoughts would lead him to little Harry Potter. Albus Dumbledore had asked him not to go looking for the kid, to let him grow up far from the wizarding world, where he would be save with his relatives and outside of the spotlight. However, Remus couldn't help but worry every now and then. He had heard enough of Lily's stories about her sister, their relationship and especially her sisters attitude towards all things magical to wonder whether James and Lily's son would really have a youth as good as Dumbledore liked to pretend. But he agreed. It would be better not to visit the boy. There was no way he could do anything for him in case the Dursleys did indeed treat him poorly. He could barely take care of and support himself, and with his lycanthropy he thought it better to stay away from little Harry.
Harry Potter has started Hogwarts
Was the headline on the frontpage of the Daily Prophet on the morning of September 2nd, 1991 and Remus couldn't help but feel a jolt of joy run through his body when he read it. Finally, after so many years he had found a sign of life from Harry. Of course there had always been rumours, people who claimed to have met him or seen him on the streets, but Remus had always doubted most of these stories. Harry had been sorted into Gryffindor. Remus smiled. James would have been so proud of him! Of course, Lily would have persisted that it didn't matter to her what house her son ended up in, as long as he was happy, but Remus knew that she too, would secretly love it that Harry had ended up being Gryffindor.
Harry Potter saves the day yet again
Was the headline on the frontpage of the Daily Prophet on the morning of June the 5th, 1992 and Remus got curious. What kind of boy had Harry Potter become? Was he like James? Bigheaded due to all his fame, a star on the quidditch pitch and loyal to his friends? Or was he more like Lily? Always seeing the best in others, incredibly kind to anyone and standing up to any prick who needed it? He did not know, as he had never yet met the kid. The article, however, told him that Harry James Potter was brave. Brave like both Lily and James had been. Always doing what they thought was right.
Dear Remus, I am collecting photo's of James and Lily to give to Harry
Was the first sentence of the letter Remus received only hours after he had read the article and it moved Remus more than he had expected. From the letter Remus deduced that Harry knew nothing of his parents. The Dursleys had told him even less than Remus had feared. It saddened him deeply. Lily and James Potter deserved to be remembered, and above all, by their very own son. He couldn't bear to think about what this knowledge would have done to them, had they known. He opened boxes he had left alone for many years and cried when he went through all of those memories.
Harry Potter solves the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets
Was the headline on the front-page of the Daily Prophet on the morning of May 30th, 1993 and Remus' supposition was yet again confirmed. Harry James Potter was not one to hang around in times of trouble and was not one to obediently follow rules and orders. Harry James Potter is brave, will stand up for what is right and do everything he can to help others. Harry James Potter resembled both of his parents, by interior and exterior.
It was all these mentions of Harry he had heard over the last few years that made him take the job when Dumbledore offered it. The last straw that pushed him past his worries about his Lycanthropy and allowed him to take the job he had dreamed of having for so many years. He would also finally be seeing the son of Lily and James Potter, the friends he had been so lucky to have known.
