In many ways ‘Reputation’ echoes one of Bob Dylan’s greatest lines of the last two decades: ‘I used to care…but things have changed.’

i think there should be two nighttimes. one for sleeping and a second one for being awake but at night. and then only one daytime because daytime doesn’t matter as much except for the birds
"did my love aid and abet you" is a line to end all lines by the way. did my forgiveness and grace enable you? did you only treat me that way because you knew you could? did i allow you to do that to me because i didn't stop loving you? i love you, it's ruining my life

not only is “the rule of show business is, If it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping. i have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art. i’m not the art police. everyone is allowed to feel exactly how they want” an absolute gag, it’s also just so admirable and nice to see how healthy her mindset is right now in regards to her work and people’s reaction to it
People talking about "Ruin the Friendship" as her "writing about high school" in the sense of suggesting that its the kind of thing a teenager would write and simply about high school relationships is actually really weird and kind of feels like they either didn't finish listening to the song or are willfully ignoring the ending.
It's very much a song that couldn't be written by a teenager because the idea of it is loss and looking back at the regrets in your life. It uses the perspective of a teenager but the actual viewpoint of the song is a much older voice reminiscing and kind of holding in tension the concerns that seem big when you're 16 with the perspective of having lived life and seen how things turned out and dealt with weightier concerns. That's why the second verse talks about Prom in such unromanticized ways. And the bridge stressing "don't make it awkward in second period" leading directly into the third verse about death is supposed to juxtapose that childish perspective of "what if it gets awkward" with the real weight of tragedy.
That last third of the song reveals to what the song is really about, recontextualizing the whole thing, and if you don't take that portion of the song into consideration, then you're not really looking at the song, you're looking at a version of the song you made up.

One thing I love about this album is the way she starts off in Elizabeth Taylor asking if he thinks it's going to be forever and saying she'd cry if he ever leaves, but by the end she's completely certain that it is forever and he won't leave and he'll propose.
When I start seeing a lot more positive takes on The Life of a Showgirl:
