abel-evans:
Abel did his best not to wince when she squeezed his hand, because the pain she was feeling was most likely triple that. He didn’t say anything back to her, not sure what the right thing to say was in that moment, didn’t want to anger her any further. Instead, he just helped her up, put an around around her to keep her upright so that he was taking most of the weight. “’l’ll send them a text, don’t worry about other people” he said, leading them towards his car which was thankfully not too far from the entrance. He swallowed at her question. Was he ready for this? Absolutely not. But he’d do his damn best. “We’re going to have a baby” he said instead, a stupid smile on his face, because at this stage, he just couldn’t wait to meet them. “Are you ready for this?” he asked then, opening the passenger door to help her in.
she had to stop about every six steps to breathe through more pain shooting through her body, but eventually she made it to the car. it almost felt impossible to lift her leg enough to get in, her belly too tense and too big, and rhi considering the possibility that another contraction could hit at any second, and knowing that any movement would just make the pain worse. she took a deep breath, climbed into the car like it was a mountain she had to climb. the pain would hit her whether she wanted it to or not, perhaps her best option was to just try and get on with it. “i’m not ready,” she spoke, honestly. in fact, she felt completely and utterly unprepared now, faced with the inevitability of birth and her actual baby. rhi nodded, though, found some resolve. “we’re doing this anyway, though. let’s do it.”
