Notes: The plot alone guarantees inclusion on this list. Probably the most creative fic Iâve ever read, and the twists and turns will keep you guessing.

Notes: Probably my all-time favourite fic, along with Blue Vase. Itâs sparse and minimal and I love that writing style.

Notes: Draco finds an amnesiac Harry and befriends him, pretending they were once lovers. Itâs pensive, short, and bittersweet.

The Boy Who Only Lived Twice (E) by lettered
Summary: Harry Potter is an Unspeakable. Draco Malfoy is the wizard who shagged him. Adventure! Intrigue! Secret identities, celebrities, spies! It's all right here, folks.
Notes: Action-heavy fics are damn hard to write, but lettered nails it. The action scenes are breakneck speed, the conversations are threaded with double meaning, and even the silences are tense.

Summary: Following an accident in his seventh year, Draco loses his eyesight.
Notes: This is one of the first fics I ever read (when it was over on FF in 2003) so itâs probably here just for nostalgia points alone. I read it when I was a kid and just thought it was a lovely golden fairytale, the best romance Iâd ever read in my (very short, thus far) life. I love reading it again, even years later as an adult when I can see the tarnish on it; the things my childhood eyes didnât notice. I donât care. Itâs my soft and fuzzy comfort fic.

The Flesh is Frail (NC-17) by wildestranger
Summary: None
Notes: Draco has injuries from curses and spells, and Harry keeps him company. Draco is angry; Harry is stubborn. They argue their way into a grudging relationship. Itâs a short read and well worth your ten minutes.

Good-bye to Yesterday (NC-17) by furiosity
Summary: Draco felt ready to face even a million years in Azkaban as long as it meant that at the end of it all, he would make Potter pay.
Notes: Itâs not a dark fic, but it certainly dips in and out of the shadows. If you like your romance to be sharp as a razor and bitter as black coffee, give it a read.

Hymn to Color (PG) by Lomonaaeren
Summary: Months after Draco cast a curse that took Harryâs eyesight, Harry is still trying to come to terms with it. Draco still wanted forgiveness, which was probably the problem.
Notes: Probably my very inadequate idea of âfluffâ. Itâs a quiet, introspective fic. Draco and Harry are well-written.

Kings among runaways (PG) by enderxenocide.
Summary: Later, the toast will be slightly overcooked, Draco will burn the eggs, and there will be another fist fight in-between the living room and the front door, but theyâll eat breakfast with second-hand plates and Dracoâs great-grandmotherâs silverware.
Notes: Dreamy descriptions, abstract scenes, and the characters are lovingly delineated. Beautiful writing.

Summary: After the final battle, Draco is holding the shards that are left of his and Harryâs life.
Notes: Established relationship. Harryâs forgetful and seems to suffer both short-term and long-term memory loss; Draco stays by his side through six years of post-war amnesia. Very short, just a tiny ficlet. Thereâs sequels (in bite-size pieces) but I prefer to read the first ficlet and leave it there.

Summary: In the final year of the War, Draco gets a letter, makes a choice and pays the price.
Notes: Short, succinct, and packs a punch. No character deaths, in case the summary has you feeling nervous.

Summary: One damned accident involving one too-lucky curse, and suddenly you'd think he was five again, with their Harry, be carefuls and their quick Levitating charms ready the instant the potion gives way and his rebelling hands lose hold of whatever's in their grasp.
Notes: Dracoâs an artist. Harryâs intrigued by his sculptures and paintings.

Snatch (PG-13) by didntyoupotter
Summary: Harry is comatose, Hermione and Ron arenât much help, and Draco isnât sure about anything anymore.
Notes: The opening scene fools you into thinking this will be a light read with a streak of good humour. Donât fall for it. By the third act, youâll be hanging onto every word and feeling a lot of emotions. Also, back in the day, this was one of the Draco/Harry fics. Everyone knew of it. Pay your respects to your fandom history and read this beloved classic.

The Stages of Acceptance (T) by Lomonaaeren.
Summary: Harry, already happily married to Ginny, receives the news that he's Draco's mate. Law and custom don't give him the option of ignoring the news. The stages of his reaction, one by one.
Notes: This is not a romance, and I love that the author just casually chucks all the Veela tropes in the bin and says ânopeâ. In Lomonaaerenâs own words, this fic is more practical than romantic. Harry is unfamiliar with the Veela concepts and hates the very idea of being âshackledâ to someone; he rejects Draco at once. Draco is miserable and lonely. They do eventually come to understand each other better, but itâs a huge struggle with lots of setbacks. The general air of pessimism and misery does make the small glimpses of compassion and empathy feel so well-earned. I love a fic that rations out its happiness.

The Stately Homes of Wiltshire (E) by waspabi
Summary: Malfoy Manor has mould, dry rot and an infestation of unusually historical poltergeists. Harry Potter is on the case.
Notes: This one needs no introduction. The writing is polished, the characterisation perfect, and the dialogue is fun. I love the humour woven throughout it.

Then Comes a Mist and a Weeping Rain (E) by faithwood.
Summary: It always rains for Draco Malfoy. Metaphorically. And literally. Ever since he had accidentally Conjured a cloud. A cloud that's ever so cross.
Notes: Another one that most of us know. Itâs a lighthearted and fun read.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow (M) by novembersnow
Summary: In the war-torn years after Hogwarts, one man has no knowledge of his yesterdays.
Notes: Another classic back in the feverish heyday of the Harry Potter fandom, when books were still being released and everyone had worked themselves up into a shipping frenzy. And no wonder this fic was an instant hit. Draco has lost all his memories and Harryâs investigating as an Auror, but the longer you read, the more you start questioning everything. Good twists and turns that lead to a tender ending.

Summary: One good turn always deserves another. Apparently.
Notes: An inevitable inclusion on any favourites list. I think my favourite thing about it is the characterisation. Everyone is so well-rounded; the characters are brought to life and feel like old friends. All their habits, styles, mannerisms, even the way they walk or talk. While I love everyone in this fic, I have to admit that Blaise is just amazing. Of all the thousands of Blaises imagined by fanfic writers, I love this one the best. âOld beanâ indeed.

Under the Ivy (PG-13) by coffeejunkii
Summary: It is impressive how much you can learn about someone by simply sharing a few rooms. They donât spend time together, not really, but Harry still knows that Malfoy prefers raspberry jam over strawberry, that he hums along to the Wireless when he thinks no one is around, and that his leg is bothering him more than usual when the temperatures drop below freezing.
Notes: Another old, old favourite of mine. Itâs like snuggling into a soft blanket. Remus owns a cottage and Harry moves in after the war. Later, Remus lets a room to Draco, who is an outcast after the war and has limited housing options. Harry isnât happy at first with the new lodger, but he eventually warms up to Draco. A slow and gentle romance.

Vale Sanare (M) by rurounihime
Summary: Dracoâs world gains a new component, just when he thought heâd sorted everything out.
Notes: London nightclubs, one-night-stands, loud music and lonely nights. Draco has seizures due to a curse from the war, and the seizures have led to a fear of intimacy. Short and sweet.

The Way Down (T) by lettered
Summary: Malfoyâs all, âCome out of there,â the way you say to a cat who is badly behaved. And Harryâs all like, âNo, what, Iâm a hermit! And I have a chest-monster! And I am crazy magically powerful!â and Malfoyâs all, âWe all have problems, bub.â (thoughtfully) âYou are crazy though. Iâll give you that.â
Notes: I just adore this fic. The fic starts well-grounded, giving you a solid backstory and matter-of-fact context, but as it goes on, it slowly unravels into dreamy scenes, lush settings, and repeated motifs. Itâs just such a beautiful story.

When Love beckons to you, follow him (PG-13) by megyal
Summary: Draco wakes up, lost, somewhere in a forest. He has no idea where he is or how he got there. As he is blundering around trying to find his way home, he hears Harry's voice in his head, telling him what to do.
Notes: I generally like my fics to be bittersweet or with a bit of heartache â but this fic is just a little cloud of softness. If you need something light and lovely without being syrupy-sweet, this is a good choice!

The World of the Living (M) by fourth_rose
Summary: A traumatised war hero and a convicted criminal under the roof of an eccentric journalist make for a rather odd ensemble, but Luna has never had a problem with oddities as long as they make sense.
Notes: The story is told from Lunaâs perspective, which gives everything a lovely dreamy quality. She takes in a couple of strays after the war â first Harry, who is avoiding his other friends and has quit his Auror job â and then she offers a room to Draco right after his trial. Draco is rude, angry, and ungrateful; Harry is churlish, withdrawn, and moody. Luna doesnât seem to mind in the slightest, and over the course of the next few months, her house guests slowly warm up to each other.

Summary: After years of running away, Harry crosses paths with an all-too familiar face and follows him to Amsterdam.
Notes: Harry drifts across Europe, trying to forget the war. He ends up in a woodworking shop in Amsterdam, alongside a moody Draco. Atmospheric settings and solid characterisation.

Hi! You're currently the only HP blog I follow (I've been out of the fandom for several years), but I'm wondering if you have the time/inclination if you could point me in the direction of what might be considered some quintessential drarry fics? I have a craving to jump back in but no idea where to begin!

Hi, this is very random but I'm actually writing a dissertation on Harry Potter Fanfiction and I'm looking for the 'big' fics, i.e. fics that lots of people in the fandom read - the most popular/famous ones that might even have their own sub-fandom (All The Young Dudes for example). Do you know of any Drarry ones like this? Thanks in advance!

This is THE fandom classic almost everyone has read and talks about. It features a redeemed, slightly obsessive, charming Draco. Grimmauld Place plays a huge role in the fic and Ron/Hermione are wonderful. Overall 10/10.

I genuinely do not know if any fic rec can do justice to this masterpiece. Itâs so beautiful and poignant and somehow nostalgic. The language, the plot, the pining and the mystery are all breathtaking. You have to read this one yourself to believe me. This is definitely a major fandom classic.
Tea and No Sympathy [70k] by who_la_hoop
It's Potter's fault, of course, that Draco finds himself trapped in the same twenty-four-hour period, repeating itself over and over again. It's been nearly a year since the unpleasant business at Hogwarts, and Draco's getting on with his life quite nicely, thank you, until Harry sodding Potter steps in and ruins it all, just like always. At first, though, the time loop seems liberating. For the first time in his life, he can do anything, say anything, be anything, without consequence. But the more Draco repeats the day, the more he realises the uncomfortable truth: he's falling head over heels for the speccy git. And suddenly, the time loop feels like a trap. For how can he ever get Harry to love him back when time is, quite literally, against him?
If you like Groundhog Day style fics, this is the winner! It has over 32k kudos on AO3 which is INSANE! Itâs super well written and keeps you hooked until the very end. And itâs not just this one, every fic by this author is a classic in its own right. Especially âwritten on the heart.â

No rec list can be complete without an eighth year fic. The fandom is FULL of eighth year fics and theyâre perfect for anyone craving a Harry Potter continuation but with Drarry. This is one of my absolute favourite ones. It features a lot of party games and itâs really nice to see Harry and Draco have a chance at a normal school year for once, something theyâve been robbed of for so many years. Thereâs a lot of pining and healing in this one and I felt all the feels when I read it.Â

This one. This one. THERE ARE NO WORDS BUT I WILL VALIANTLY ATTEMPT. I love it. It explores Harryâs childhood in a way very few fics have managed to and it really really tugs at the heartstrings. Itâs gorgeously written and evokes so many emotions. Please read this one.
Stop All the Clocks (This Is the Last Time Iâm Leaving Without You) [44k] by @firethesound
Living with Draco was difficult; living without him is unbearable. But if thereâs one thing Harry learned from the war, itâs that even when one life ends, the rest of the world goes right on living.
Full disclosure- I havenât read this and I donât know if I ever can. It features MCD (main character death) and I really struggle with reading fics that donât have a happy ending. Having said that, it is a fandom classic and everyone who has read it, RAVES about it. They say itâs gorgeous and beautiful and devastating. What I can confirm is that firethesound is an amazing author and I have read several other fics by them which could also be considered fandom classics. Especially âAll Our Secrets Laid Bareâ which is the ultimate Auror partners fic and âA Convenient Impracticalityâ which is the ultimate fake dating/friends-with-benefits fic.Â

Oh my goodness, this fic ruined me. In the best possible way. If you want a glimpse into how Harryâs life could have been if his parents had been alive and if Harry and Draco had been friends from the start, this is the one. There's a huge twist which makes the fic EVEN better. I donât want to spoil too much but this one is worth a read. Another fic by the same author, âFar From The Treeâ is also gorgeous. Itâs a newer fic so I wouldnât say itâs a classic yet but the plot is SO unique. It features Harryâs grown up kids coming back into the past and how that could affect Harry/Dracoâs relationship. All the characters are super well written and itâs one of my personal favourites!

I made a Drarry rec list when I first got into the fandom. I would say almost all the fics on this list are also classics/very well liked.Â
Another great way to find classics are through this link. They are Drarry fics on Ao3 (30k+ words) sorted by the number of kudos theyâve received. I would say all fics on the first five pages can be considered classics.Â
Here are three other SUPER adored authors in the Ao3 fandom: Bixgirl, Saras_Girl and GallaPlacidia
All works by Bix and Saras_Girl are considered classics. GallaPlacidia started writing for the fandom only a couple of years back but she has such a knack for writing both these boys, itâs absolutely insane. Iâm 100% confident her fics will be considered classics in a few years! Especially âThe Bucket Listâ and âShip of Theseus.â
When I say the Drarry-ship saved me, I donât kid. I stumbled upon this pairing (which is now my OTP) as I was going through a particularly anxious phase of my life. These fics made me laugh, cry and generally succeeded in distracting me from falling down a terrible anxiety spiral.Â
I thought itâs only fair that I make a top 10 list in the hope that it may help others like me. I will forever be grateful to @capiturecs @justdrarryme @o0o-chibaken-o0o @sleepydrarry @drarryspecificrecs @dictacontrion @dragontamerdrarry and several others for their wonderful wonderful fic recs.Â

Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.
This fic was just 104k words of utter perfection. The hilarious and emotional moments are so well balanced that you canât help laugh and cry alternately at 3AM. Parent!Harry to insecure wonderful Teddy is just lovely to read. Dracoâs cooking shenanigans and his relationship with his house-elves had me in fits. I highly recommend this.Â

What can I say about this fic that hasnât already been said? This was the fic that took me down the Drarry rabbit hole and boy, am I glad that I took the ride. Harry and Dracoâs evolving relationship is so well executed in this one. Itâs the perfect enemies-to-lovers transition. Plus, legilimency SMUT and super supportive friends! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS. I would recommend everything by this author; especially Number Seven.Â

This one is long and will hit you right in the feels. Iâm a sucker for âbeing-sucked-into-an-alternate-realityâ fics and this one is right at the top of that list. Artist!Harry, Journalist!Draco and their sassy pet snake are to die for. And little Maura is just adorable goodness. This was also the fic that made me ship Ginny/Blaise. Itâs so well written and beautifully executed. Go read it!

I tend to avoid WIPs but this one is truly worth the wait. If not for the adorable Drarry, read this one for the wonderful magical theory. Alchemy, necromancy, astral projections and charms theories sent my nerdy soul into a tizzy. I love a clever (bordering on genius) Draco, and this book delivers. It also has a wonderful Sirius/Remus relationship and their attempts at parenting Harry are so so cute! Nagini, Abigail and Theophania lived up to all my parseltongue dreams. Also Iâm Indian, so a desi Harry sent my heart fluttering. (I know Iâm gushing now but SIAT is just THAT good.)

This fic is the answer to all the AurorPartners!Drarry requests. Itâs so well written and the growing sexual tension is palpable. Â Their fights and banter are spot on and you end up rooting for those two so hard. I recommend everything by @firethesound. I have read at least 6 of their fics and loved each and every one.
We Are Young (Iâll Carry You Home Tonight) by @femmequixoticâ (68K, E)
Harry and Draco have been falling into bed on and off again since the last election five years ago, much to the amusementâand financial gainâof their circle of friends. But when Harry agrees to work with Draco to put Kingsley Shacklebolt into the Ministerâs office, they canât work side-by-side again every day and sleep together; that would be courting disaster. Wouldnât it?
Friends-with-benefits, housemates and oblivious Drarry! Need I say more? Also, I LOVED all the politics in this, including a crazy screaming Blaise. Again, I recommend everything by @femmequixoticâ. The writing just makes me feel so many feels!

Ahh, I donât even know where to start with this one. Their enmity, careful hesitation, sacrifice and love had me in tears. I was so scared for them throughout their treacherous journey across the forest. This fic is super long and perfect for angst lovers. I was unable to put it down, EVEN TO SLEEP. The blood magic and clever Draco had me falling for it hard and Iâm sincerely hoping there will be a sequel at some point. (Though it is old, so itâs not probable)

If youâre a HIMYM fan and are looking for a light Drarry fic, this oneâs for you. The similarities to HIMYM were well done without being over the top while maintaining a ton of originality. The anticipation leading up to Harry and Dracoâs first meeting was so good. Oh, and the ending was perfect, unlike HIMYMâs.
Men Who Love Dragons Too Much by fencer_x, IDoodleForNoodles (479K, E)
[Extensive re-telling of Deathly Hallows] âKill Albus Dumbledoreâ is less a challenging task and more a suicide mission, so when Draco Malfoy is presented with the option to either dispatch his Headmaster or suffer an excruciating and most ignominious death of his own, along with his parents, he reaches deep into his black little Slytherin heart and manages to scrape together enough courage to go with option C instead: Spend Sixth Year secretly studying Animagecraft in the hopes heâll turn into something sufficiently imposing even the Dark Lord himself wonât be able to keep Draco under his thumb. But just his luck, his Animagus form turns out to be a dragon, and a rather randy juvenile at that, intent on finding its mate: one Harry James Potter.
Okay, I had to include at least one Horcruxes hunt fic. AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST ONE. How could it not be? Dragon Animagus Draco and his mate Harry? Recipe for perfection. Itâs long and itâs an amazing read. NOW GO READ IT!

I love adorable de-aging fics and this one is just too cute. The storyline is a little ridiculous but read it for the relationships and the cuteness. Harryâs love for his snakes is just heart melting and Draco is at his adorablest-best. Hermioneâs pet name for Harry had me crying and laughing. Hands down, the sweetest de-aging fic Iâve read and I think I could read it again and again.Â
