shading colour tips

hey yall its me the Art Mom™ to help you shade pretty

rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD. 

red- shade with a slightly darker shade of purple

orange- slightly darker and more saturated shade of red

yellow- i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach

green- shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal

blue- shade with purple

purple- a shade thats darker than the purple you’re using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)

pink- darker shade of red

white- a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??

black- okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol

grey- a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)

brown- slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red

aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!

bonus points if it’s a beleaguered minimum wage employee who just goes about their business like “yep same shit as always”

someone pretending they don’t know another character is eavesdropping, only to casually reveal at the end of the scene that they know (*leaving* “tell tom that he can come out now” *tom drops from the ceiling in spy gear, irritated*)

choosing to deal with the villain by just leaving them alone in a room with another character

the “hands go down” trope

example: “any questions?” *everyone’s hands go up* “…that AREN’T sarcastic?” *everyone’s hands go down*

These are all great but let’s not forget two characters giving extremely biased flashbacks to the same event that each paint the other as an incompetent loon

That one character who is like actively dying but insists they’ve had worse and wants to keep fighting

Knocking down a big group of opponents with a bowling ball sound effect

Convenient book titles (“Plot-Related Thing for Dummies”)

Characters giving a flashback and voicing all the characters themselves

Listing a number of bizarrely specific conditions, which then immediately happen

“You can say that again!” *character repeats exact same thing they just said*

Character screams, shots pan out to random places further and further away with the scream still going, birds and animals getting spooked, volcanos erupting, etc. all the way out to a shot of the planet from space

Characters sound like they’re beating the crap out of each other in the next room, cut to next room where they’re doing something totally harmless like playing video games

Replacing swear words with random noises like trucks honking and crows cawing

“I love this job” immediately turning into “I hate this job” or vice versa

Large, grown ass man lets out high pitched squeal like girl

Short names with totally wrong long versions (Nederick, Barold, Bobert)

The thing about this photoset is that Evans is a passive subject for the camera.

Most photos of a beefy blonde male have him staring aggressively. You know the type I mean - stance wide and shoulders spread, eyes lit with challenge, as if he’s about to punch or fuck the camera man. This set is the exact opposite. Evans glances away from the camera like a Victoria’s Secret model, or else peeks from behind a shirt like he’s asking for approval. The photos where he’s on his knees have his spine curved to show off his slender waist, elbows in to show submission. Heck, in one picture the curve of his torso mirrors the curve of the lady on the poster in the background.  

Some photographer, when deciding to work with Evans, decided to shoot him in a way that women are often portrayed, instead of the traditional machismo alpha male bullshit. Thank you, photographer. Tumblr is grateful.
