We've been featured in The Eyeopener!
Read the article here.
We are extremely proud to present our booth installation at the IDS this weekend. Drop by and check out the numerous displays/seminars/exhibits on all things design -- hope you see you there!
Is this really happening?? Our installation is finally set up and ready for the show!
Some action shots!

Moving and and setting up. Design is in the air at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre! The team works hard to complete the installation on site. The wooden utensils are hung using fishwire and screw-in hooks for a translucent, and unobtrusive visual when peering in.
We're back at Boothworks!! Today is the day where everything comes together. After our shipment arrived, we moved all our bits and pieces to be assembled onto the metal frame. By using Velcro strips to attach our panels to the frame, assembly on site will be quick and easy. Finally, we could physically see the progression from our initial design and redesigns being built in person.
Another day in the shop...
The interior columns had their bases built and the overall structure assembled. Tonight's timing and efficiency was top priority since our shipment deadline was the following morning. Power tools were our weapon of choice today.
After sanding in preparation (and waiting for our paint to dry), we headed over to the Ryerson Architecture Lab for laser cutting. After running into a few minor problems, adjustments were made on sizing and positioning for the panel to both minimize waste and keep within our budget.
Thank you to Blaine for helping us in the Architecture Lab!

Before painting the interior columns, the melamine panels needed to be sanded down to achieve a gritty texture for the paint to stick on.
Then, we used rollers to apply 3 coats of Gennex Colorants that contain zero VOCs and have a fortified finish to maintain the vibrant colour we intended for the interior.
You can also see one of our volunteers, Donna, helping us paint. Our moods were definitely brightened along with the lively colours of the paint!
So why the Victorian Era?
“Properly conducted, the dinner-party should be a pleasant affair; and if rightly managed, from beginning to the end, it may prove a very enjoyable occasion to all in attendance.” -Angel Pig
Dining in the Victorian era reflected the restrictions and customs of the time and there was little that was more lavish than a dinner party. This was an opportunity for people to flaunt their wealth, status and connections by hosting in their home. The goal was to impress guests with elaborate dishes, ornate decoration and high-ranking invitees.
A typical dinner would consist of twelve to thirteen courses and sometimes as many as twenty. Dinner was served either “a la Francaise”, the course was placed in front of the host and carved then passed around or “a la Russe”, the courses were cut before being brought to the table. Regardless of the style of service a dinner would, in part, be comprised of:
Savory Soup
Roast Turkey with Dressing or Roast Pork with Specialty Potatoes or Chicken Fricassee served with Rice
Two Vegetable Side Dishes
Citrus Ice
Fresh Dinner Rolls with Sweet Cream Butter
Jams, Jellies & Sweet Pickles
Fancy Cake & Preserved Fruit
Coffee, Hot Punch & Water
In the process of researching dining conventions, the contrast we saw between an era of opulence and ostentatious dinners, and the widespread levels of impoverishment experienced today was a stark realization. It became important for us to communicate a simple yet often forgotten truth -- that although food is a necessity, it is also a scarcity to many.
Our exterior panels being cut on the CNC machine! Since our viewers will be peering into a box, we decided to conceal the metal framework that provides the structure in between two wooden pieces. The interior panel is MDF, while the exterior is birch.
Revised and final CAD drawings for the exterior panels. Finally ready for the CNC and laser cutting!
