@idylldandyarts
Greetings from the holler! From **June 5th to June 10th** IDA will transform to host the 18th IDApalooza! IDApalooza is most known as a music festival and community homecoming, but it serves as our primary fundraiser outside of the monthly sustainer program, #sustainIDA. The ultimate goal for IDApalooza is to raise the $14,000 yearly land payment and operating costs of the festival as well as providing food, compensating bands for their performances, travel expenses for key organizers, building up infrastructure to facilitate housing residents and hosting guests year round. The majority of the financial resources IDA needs comes from the success of IDApalooza. Donate through the registration process at the front of the land or through the PayPal link: paypal.me/IDAcoin (comes up as 'Short Mountain Sanctuary', we know... ) We've been doing the year-round work of maintaining the land as a space of healing, learning, and sanctuary for QITBIPOC (Queer, Intersex, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color) whose experiences and voices we intentionally center. IDApalooza organizers and residents want to prioritize keeping the festival open to attendees who cannot contribute financially. We also recognize the valuable labor that so many people contribute in the world (emotional, physical, political, and otherwise) and would rather you be here, than stay home!! For this reason, we maintain a policy that no one is turned away for lack of funds. This payment policy is also intended to reflect the reality that transmisogyny, racism, white supremacy, ableism, immigration status, and other ongoing societal forces all affect queer people's ability to come to IDApalooza. The primary purpose of those with privilege is to disseminate accumulated wealth, so we encourage those who can give to contribute as much as possible so we can meet everyone's needs. If you are able to chip in a little extra to offset those who can’t, that helps to make all of this financially feasible!! We encourage you to give a $100 - $200+ donation ($25 - $50 for each day you will be at IDApalooza) In the past, attendees have payed anywhere between $0-$500+ We REALLY appreciate it when people donate and fill out the registration form ahead of time!!! This helps us budget more accurately to prevent overspending, receive flight information in a timely manner and prepare better for dietary needs and restrictions. Please, donate and register in advance if you can!!! *PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK IN WHEN YOU ARRIVE---- Please don't forget to visit the Registration Tent (at the front of the land) when you come to IDA. Filling out this form will speed up the process, but we still need to check you in upon your arrival, so we can keep an accurate head count. Thanks!**

2018 IDAPALOOZA Pre-Registration!!!
!!!!!REGISTRATION LINK BELOW!!!!
Dear Friends,
Spring is here, which means Idapalooza is just around the corner!! This year’s fest will take place from May 30th- June 4th 2018.
People contribute to Idapalooza in many ways, and this event could not happen or grow without the help of hundreds of volunteers, organizers, and activist. We are excited about everyone who has emailed us to volunteer, and are always excited to initiate new people into organizing positions. This year we are also encouraging people who are planning to attend and donate financially to pre-register to help us to with the hefty set up costs.
Idapalooza relies on financial contributions from many visitors. The money that Idapalooza raises goes toward providing food for the event (around $8,000), paying bands and travel expenses for key organizers (around $7,000), building up infrastructure to facilitate hosting guests year round, and contributing toward the $13,000 yearly land payment, the majority of which comes from Idapalooza donations etc, etc. We look forward to being able to throw the best Idapalooza we can, but in order to do that, we need your help-- please pre-register and consider making a payment online or sending a check or money order in the mail.
Idapalooza organizers and residents want to prioritize keeping the festival open to attendees who will not be contributing financially. For this reason, we maintain a policy that no one is turned away for lack of funds. This payment policy is also intended to reflect the reality that transmisogyny, racism, white supremacy, ableism, immigration status, and other ongoing societal forces all affect queer people's ability to come to Idapalooza. We also recognize the valuable labor that so many people contribute (emotional, physical, political, and otherwise.) and would rather you be here, than stay home!! If you are able to chip in a little extra to offset those who can’t, that helps to make all of this financially feasible!!
We encourage you to give a $100-$200 donation + $25-$50 for each day you will be at Idapalooza.
To give online follow this link:

If you are writing a check or money order (we love you, online payment services always take a cut) send it to IDA at the address below:

If you may need some assistance traveling to and from IDA, we have set up a group ride share at the link below:
http://www.groupcarpool.com/t/kgowmr
You may also contact [email protected] for all ride coordination inquiries.
If you know of a friend who is coming, please pass on this request. The attached pre-registration form contains more details! Thanks for everything you all do!
Love,
Ida and the surrounding community

P.S. If you are the type to throw fundraising parties, we would love it if you could throw one for us! Write us at [email protected] for more information on doing so.
Idapalooza Pink Armbands Coordinator
Pink Armbands is a group of people whose primary responsibility is crisis management. Pink Armbands are on call at all times to help people work through difficult situations, feelings, and mindstates. They respond if someone is in a dangerous place where they are a danger to themselves or others and work to de-escalate and resolve the situation in a safe (read: no cops) way. This role, while potentially challenging, is an important part of maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for attendees.
As the coordinator of Pink Armbands your job is to work with other coordinators and community members to recruit and lead volunteers in responding to a variety of conflicts. This job is usually performed by mental health professionals/people with mental health training, but we are open to alternative training and approaches to mental health and conflict resolution. Contact [email protected] if you have any questions about the position. Please fell free to share this post. Thanks!
2018 Idapalooza (May 30th- June 4th)- Call for Kitchen Co-Coordinator
We are writing to check and see if anyone would be interested in co-coordinating kitchen duties during Idapalooza. Our current kitchen co-coordinator, who has already organized menus, will unfortunately be unable to attend for the entire duration of the week and is seeking an extra person to be in charge of executing kitchen duties during the week.
Qualified candidates will have experience working in a kitchen and/or cooking for groups of 500 or more as well as the ability to follow recipes and be mindful of food allergies. If this sounds like you, feel free to shoot us a message at [email protected]. If you know someone who may be interested in this position, feel free to share this post and have them reach out to us!
IDA Seeks Garden Intern
Hey y'all! It's gardening season at IDA again and we are looking for a few garden interns to help us throughout the year. Here's what we're looking for: -prioritizing POC and trans folx -someone who knows how to work mower, weed whacker, tiller, etc -hopefully you can FIX mower, weed whacker, tiller, etc, too! -gardening experience is a major plus, but not required -good sense of style -someone who's very self-motivated and can direct themselves in the garden -must like bugs! We are, ideally, looking for someone to commit to a full 3 month season (spring, summer, fall), but we're open to negotiating the amount of time you're here. You also must be able to: -garden 20-25hrs/week -tend the garden on weekends (our main gardener works weekends) -garden on Wednesdays (IDA's rain or shine Baberhood Garden Day) In return for your time here, you'll have your own bug-free sleeping space with a roof! (in one of our SEB's) Notes to remember: We will be learning together here as we garden alongside each other. Most of the people gardening at IDA this year are gardening for the 1st or 2nd year. Let's learn together! Also- We live amongst a thriving and cooperative rural community. Please be respectful of neighbors and townfolk during your time here. Send your applications of interest to [email protected] Thanks so much! IDA P.S. Food stamps contribution would be super helpful!
IDA Werk Hard/Slay Hard Weather Update
Just a reminder to pack warm! While you can expect to see highs in the 60's throughout the week, we are expecting temperatures to drop to the 40's at night, so make sure to bring what you need to bundle up- this includes warm clothes as well as blankets and whatnot. Additionally, we are expecting rain on several days during the workweek. While we hope the skies won't rain on our parade, come prepared to deal with the potential for rain (rain boots, coats, etc.). I know many of you have already started traveling our way so don't worry. We have extra blankets and resources to help those who miss this message. I can't believe it's only 2 days away! We'll see you soon!
Carpool
We know that it can be difficult to arrange transportation to and from IDA for events, so we have set up group ride shares for each of or upcoming summer events. Please click the link for the event that you will be attending. Make sure that you click the correct link so that there isn’t any confusion. Hopefully this will help to streamline transportation for everyone! If you still have transportation needs, feel free to shoot us an email!

What to bring (and not bring) to IDA work and play events
Hey y'all! On behalf of all of the organizers of this event, let me say how excited we all are to see all of your beautiful faces! We’ve been working hard to prepare the land for your arrival and thought this might be a great time to help make sure everyone who arrives is as prepared as possible for this week of joyfully celebrating queer music, art, and most importantly, LOVE! It has been a while since we made a post about what to bring (and not bring) to Ida events. We have made many changes over the last two years and are very excited to continue sustaining community for all of you 💕. As we become more focused in our intentions and priorities to this land and community, we want to make sure to be more active in our communications with the community served by this space. Be on the lookout for increased social media activity and updates surrounding upcoming and future projects and events!

Twerk Hard/Slay Hard Pet Policy
While we appreciate all of the furry, scaly, and feathered companions who enrich the lives of or community members, we are unfortunately not in a position to handle the added responsibility that comes with hosting pets. There is currently a pack of resident dogs at IDA and they can be rather cliquey. While they work very well with humans, it would be best to limit the number of additional pets on the land.
That being said, exceptions will be made for those who have service animals. If you would like to request a service animal accompany you to this event, email [email protected]
If you do end up needing to bring a pet either as an a service companion or because you would be otherwise unable to attend, understand that your animal is your responsibility. We ask that dogs remain on leashes. Any animal who causes injury to another person or resident dog will be asked to leave the land.
IDA Spring work party 4/20-27th
Hey y'all,
As many of you know, IDA has undergone some extreme changes in focus, intent, and prioritization in the last couple of years. As with any major transitional periods, there were plenty of growing pains and lessons learned. As the dust settles we are realizing what great opportunity lies before us to hold space and cultivate enrichment for the community. With the community support we have recieved and continue to recieve, we are finally seeing what great power and responsibility we have to this space. As we continue working toward holding sustainable sanctuary and intentional space for healing, we welcome whatever input and support you are willing to provide.
We are holding a work party to re-establish existing infrastucture, much of which was damaged in a flood this past November. Many of our structures are in dire need of renovation and repair and we are not currently staffed and resourced to meet tose needs on our own. If you have skills to lend or are willing to help in any way you can, please join us in working toward a new era at IDA!
The IDA Spring 2018 Work Party, otherwise known as Twerk Hard/Slay Hard will be hosted at IDA April 20th-27th. The goals of our work party this spring are to make some genital changes including finishing some pre-existing projects and repairing flood damage before the summer is in full swing. We are looking for help with the following:
Sowing seeds
Mantainiing the land
Improving pre-existing structures
Fixing our water system and bridge post flood damage
...and much muuuuuch more!

-Lead & assistant landscaping coordinator
-Lead & assistant water systems coordinator
-Lead & assistant trash/waste coordinator
