Hannibal Lecter Character Study
"Why do people call it common sense when it’s so rare to find people that have it nowadays."

*Will flinches with surprise; as Hannibal enters, wiping the tears from his eyes and taking a deep calming breath. He was silent for a minute as he forced his mind to process Hannibal's words so they made sense, and he could make some attempt as a decent, appropriate response, that would abait Hannibal's fears; but alas he found he could make no sound, for wanting to burst into tears again, and so settled for sullenly nodding; slowly, and miserably; un-able to make eye contact with Hannibal, the man he respected so much...*
Your muse just witnessed my muse breaking down in tears. How does your muse respond?

*Will nodded* "thankyou" *he said softly, smiling politely at Hannibal as he left* "dammit it to hell, what am I doing?" *he muttered under his breath; sighing frustratedly, when Hannibal left; sharply setting aside his plate of food, tiredly and anxiously taking his glasses off and rubbing his face gently. He didn't know what to do with himself now, he cursed his own weak desire to burden Hannibal with his thoughts; for he knew he shouldn't, because it would be unfair on him and he cared about the man far too much to do that to him. It was however very tempting, as he felt like his mind was about to implode and his feelings consume and thus overwhelm him...unsure what to do, he continued to sit there; with his head in his hands, deep in thought...*
Okay, Tumblr, here’s a little story about this badass here. Don’t know who he is? This is Oliver Hotham, a History Student and journalist. He’s had a bit of a run-in with Straight Pride UK (@StraightPrideUK on Twitter). A little snippet of information about them: their Twitter background is a person in a shirt which reads “most people are straight, get over it”… Buuuuut in any case, here is, in Oliver’s words, what happened when he decided to write about them:
”I wrote to Straight Pride asking that they answer some questions. Stipulating that I was “a freelance journalist”, I sent them some questions, about what they do and what they believe.
About a week later they responded with an attached document with the title “press release”. I went through the questions, corrected the horrendous grammar, and organised it so it coherently answered the questions I’d posed. I also noted that two rather pointed questions I’d asked, regarding the problem of the bullying of LGBTI youth and the nature of other “pride” movements, had not been answered. I sent them an email about this, saying that I’d give them the opportunity to respond but, if they didn’t, I’d “make it clear in the article” that they avoided the questions. They didn’t get back to me for 2 days, which I thought ample time to write two sentences.
Fully satisfied that my journalism had made them look like the arses they are, I hit the publish button, and sat back, feeling all together really pleased with myself. I called the article “It’s great to be straight… yeah”, too, which I thought acutely summed up their philosophy and referenced a mid-90s dance album I rather like.
The article gained a lot of traction, too. A friend and I put it on Reddit, and I got thousands of hits. In my short career of attempting to become a respectable journalist, it was one of the most successful things I’d done.
Then came the email from Straight Pride UK’s press officer, Nick Steiner:
“It has been brought to my attention that you have published the email that I sent you to, you did not state this in your email request, nor you did have consent to do this.
I therefore request that you take down the article that you have placed on your blog.
You have 7 days in which to do this, failing this I shall submit a DMCA to WordPress to have it removed.”
I laughed this off, and responded to the email arguing their case was absurd:
1) There was no indication on the “press release” they sent me that it was copyrighted material. Nor did they make any mention of the fact that anything they gave me was copyrighted.
2) I wrote “I’m a journalist and I’d like to ask you some questions” in my first email. If you’re a press officer and you don’t know what this means, then you really aren’t qualified to have your job.
3) In my email about the questions they didn’t answer, I made reference to “the article”. If that isn’t an indication that I’m going to publish something then I really don’t what is.
I thought this was a good enough defence, and I assumed this would all be swept under the carpet, and that their rather sad attempts to remove my article because it made them look stupid were all for naught.
I was wrong – within a few days WordPress caved to them without question, removing my article and telling me if I tried to publish it again I’d be suspended, but that I could challenge the takedown of my article. I responded that yes, I very much would like to, and was emailed a form I’d have to fill in. One of the requirements was that I “consent to local federal court jurisdiction, or if overseas, to an appropriate judicial body”.
I’m a student. I don’t have the money, time, or patience to go through with potentially having to go to court over this. All in all, I just could not be bothered to challenge the decision.
So I accepted the takedown, feeling thoroughly shit about myself.
Then I get another email from Straight Pride UK, which pissed me off even more. They demanded I take down the material (which I had) but also that I:
“…remove all references to Straight Pride UK, The Straight Forward Project, along with images, and links, from your Blog.”
Ok.
So not content with forcing me to eat a shit sandwich on dubious grounds and making me take down my work, they now demand that I never write anything about them again. Are these people kidding? Who the hell do they think they are that they can simply demand that I not write about them again, in an email with the pointedly sinister name of their solicitors at the bottom?
This, for me, was the final straw, and why I decided to write this article.
Because I find it absurd that this silly little group can simply demand that remove all my references to them because it makes them look bad. What are they afraid of? Their views make them look stupid enough, why the need to so aggressively bully and harass me? Why do they care so much?
And are they so cowardly that an article criticising them is enough to attempt to pursue a tenuous legal case against the author?
It really boggles the mind.”
Now, as a matter of fairness, let us see what redeeming factors we can gleam from Straight Pride UK’s website…
"Modern society has come to look down upon the heterosexual mainstream as being unwilling to accept the homosexuals who have chosen to be different; in doing so, The Pink Mafia has itself become unwilling to accept those who make up the Straight majority. There is nothing right with being homosexual, there is nothing right with being bisexual, and there is nothing wrong with being heterosexual and being proud to be of natural orientation.
If gay people have pride, why shouldn’t straight people have it too? We intend to make this a reality”
Oh. Well, surely there’s something…
"Heterosexuals do not have equality, homosexuals have more rights then any sector of society. They have the right to take over city streets, dress ridiculously, and parade with danger and contempt, invade hotels and B&B’s run and owned by people who object to homosexuality, and then sue them when refusal is given. Straight Pride, we believe are normal everyday people, dressed normally, walking and behaving normally, to raise awareness of being straight, and being PROUD to be heterosexual."
Well…
"Homosexuals have more rights then others, they also have ‘special rights’ which trump others, cause problems for faith organisations, hotels, alike, heterosexuals must have rights to refuse, it is not ‘homophobic’ or ‘bigoted’ it is a persons right to without fear of being silenced or abused."
Here are links to Oliver’s full article and profile on wordpress, and here’s his Twitter account. Let him know your take on the situation or just spread this around, guys! We need to help a bro out. But be careful what you say about Straight Pride UK- they’ve been not-so-friendly on their Twitter account.
Guys signal boost this, I just looked at Straight Pride UKs Twitter and they are trying to get Oliver to take his other article down now. Make sure everyone can read this by reblogging this!

Julie D’Aubigny was a 17th-century bisexual French opera singer and fencing master who killed or wounded at least ten men in life-or-death duels, performed nightly shows on the biggest and most highly-respected opera stage in the world, and once took the Holy Orders just so that she could sneak into a convent and shag a nun.
(via Feminism)
bisexual opera singer who killed ten men and snuck into a convent to shag a nun.
Just so y’all know, she later set that convent on fire so she and that nun could sneak out. And she seduced one of the men she’d dueled.
Also, dueling was a serious crime during her life, but the king of France essentially overturned her conviction on the grounds that the relevant law specifically referred to men.
how has there never been a million stories about this badass
This is largely a love note to my fellow roleplayers, regardless of if you know me, or if you don’t. I’ve been roleplaying since around the time I was eleven years old, at the time of writing this I’m twenty two. I’ve grown a lot in that time, and I’ve seen a lot, met hundreds of roleplayers in various formats and sites. There’s a few things almost all of us have in common, and if you’ll bare with me I’d like to shed some light on them. Like to explain a few things that eleven years have taught me.
Somedays, people are shitty.
Maybe you’re not getting replies and someone else is, maybe people are just cross or absent minded or absent, period. It’s almost never got anything to do with you. Maybe you did something, but most likely you didn’t, if you’re worried try talking to them. I can’t say this enough, roleplaying is an artform and a community built on words and yet, in our most crucial hours we almost always faulter.
This may be a bit of a weird hobby, but you should never, ever feel ashamed of it.
It’s no different to how mankind has functioned since forever, just, it’s in a different format. Roleplayers are a community of storytellers, of seekers, of people searching for answers through fiction without being content to simply read other’s answers yet wanting the input of more than their own mind. Human culture and tradition was built on the backs of storytellers who whispered tales in the night to keep the monsters away and it’s not going to stop even with all the science and modern technology in the world.
Sending hate, anon or otherwise is never good.
As much as you may hate or dislike someone, just don’t. Roleplaying is a hobby that gives light to peoples lifes where it may seem pitch black most of the time. It’s a release of demons for some, for others a fantasy playground to make everything seem right in the world if only for a little while and shame on you if you think it’s your right to ruin their enjoyment of that, if they’re bothering you, tell them politely or simply ignore them.
A lot of roleplayers have self confidence issues.
They already hate themselves more than you could ever hate them, they think their writing awful even if it’s fucking novel worthy, don’t push them around for shits and giggles or because you don’t like them. They don’t deserve it, and you’re a better person than that somewhere down inside.
You are beautiful. Say it with me now, I (you) am beautiful. Beautiful.
Regardless of how you look, what you wear, your gender, sexuality, taste in music or anything else. You are beautiful, and you deserve to be on this earth, and you deserve to do wonderful, glorious things if you desire them. Haters ain’t got nothing on you. Be brave. Don’t you dare let got of your hopes and dreams.
Never shame anyone for writing smut, or for not.
It’s their choice. No one should be forced into writing what they don’t want too, and equally no one should be shamed because they like writing sex or other related things. There’s nothing wrong with either option, it just depends on the audience, the writers, sometimes even the thread in particular or the characters.
Not everyone writes the same.
This particuarly goes for people who play canon characters, who find themselves caught up in the vicious cycle of this roleplayer plays them better than I do, or they get more replies/asks/etc than I do I must suck. Don’t. You may not be the best, I’ll be honest, but you can only write what rings true to yourself, and some people won’t approve, but some will, and those are the ones that count. As much as people try to make this a popularity contest, it’s not. Write for yourself, then for your partners and if you care at all after that, then you can worry about your fans or followers.
English? (or whatever you roleplay in) Not everyones first language, or even best subject.
Sometimes people make mistakes, if it’s so jarring you can’t work out what they’re trying to say, ask them. They probably want to improve, just be nice about it for heavens sake.
But mostly? Be fantastic to each other. Write what you love, with who you love. Write what excites you. Write what challenges you. Write out your demons or your desires, your death marches or your love songs. Don’t forget to be awesome, and know that I love you. The universe loves you, even if it rarely seems like it. Roleplaying is for fun, with it’s myrad of styles, methods and thousands of players, be a good one. Care about each other, and yourself because, really?
I’m not kidding.
You are beautiful. You don’t need twenty people reblogging a post from you or sending you asks for this to be true, you need to know this or you’ll never be happy in this community. For the two people that say they hate you, chances are there’s another 30 chilling, waiting for you with open, loving arms. Your writing may be imperfect, or not in your first language but it doesn’t matter, just have fun continuing on a tradition we’ve had ever since we could tell the first stories.
((I made a sideblog for things like this, i felt it needed to be said as so many of you struggle with issues of self worth, that I’ve seen, and honestly so do I. So I wrote you all something, it’s not perfect, but nothing is. Please read it, I know it’s a bit long but I think it’s important. Even if I never actually rp with you, or talk much, it doesn’t mean I don’t care. You’re one of us, as well as being another human on this rough road through life, so you matter to me for better or worse.))
