There was no denying it. You were completely and utterly in love with your best friend and it was pathetic.
Everyone knew about your embarrassingly deep crush. You weren’t popular but still, everyone seemed to know.
Everyone but him. I mean it was obvious wasn’t it? I guess not enough because he seemed to be oblivious or was at least trying to ignore it.
One thing i’ve learned from this insane crush? He was in love with someone else. How do I know this? I mean i’m not stupid. Who wouldn’t have known by the way his eyes always seem to follow her, the way he never listens anymore because he’s so enamored by her graceful movement, and how he looks at her like she’s everything he’s ever wanted.
Everytime I watch him, its more like I'm watching her. No matter what, he will always search for her in a room.
In his eyes, she is perfect and I couldn’t even hate her for it. She was smart, beautiful, and carried this silent confidence in her every movement, something I couldn’t muster up if I even tried. She’s everything i’m not and I'm reminded of that everytime I look at her.

We’re sitting in a booth at our usual diner, I'm working on a song for my music class. "I can't even think of a single thing, I mean how do people write this stuff?" I huff. No answer, no sly remark, not even a tiny laugh.
"Oh god I think I just found a deep fried rat in my burger" I try, "Oh yeah sounds great" he mumbles. I look over to see what hes looking at, and there she is. Squidward.
Everytime I look at him it seems like his eyes always drift towards her. Its like shes the sun and hes orbiting around her constantly. He gets up and goes to talk to her and I feel heat rising towards my cheeks feeling embarassed that I tried to start a conversation for 5 minutes while she didnt even have to try to talk to him.
He looks happy. His eyes crinkle and his smile is wider than I've ever seen. I feel my eyes welling as I crumple all of the lyrics I've written. I've made no progress. With him or with my song.
I get up to leave until I hear loud footsteps and my name being called. I recognize his voice and ignore him as I walk out, speeding up my steps. Before I can reach the door, a gentle hand holds my wrist, "Where are you going?" I quickly make up an excuse, "I forgot I have to study for my quiz, all of my stuff is in my room". "Wait let me walk you" he suggests. "Its alright, stay, you're having fun here".
I dont hear what he says next because I walk away before he can get a word out.
What I dont notice is the disappointed look he has when I walk away.
