I love that the Loki Series writers tried to give sylvie queen of the Mary Sues the tragicest backstory ever but unfortunately they couldn’t be bothered to watch thor 2011 and thus they failed bc her stupid cliched backstory still isn’t as sad as loki’s backstory. also it fails to evoke pathos bc she doesn’t feel like a real character and is instead an annoying cardboard cutout.
Gonna say something controversial to the Sylvie and New Age “Loki” fans:
You don’t really like Sylvie.
(or “Sylki”) If this character had her own origin show absolutely independent from Loki, you wouldn’t give two shits about her at all. You only like her because she got to kiss Loki/have a fucked up “romance” with Loki. She’s a self-insert character for women who think Loki is hot—so you can play pretend.
And before you come at me with “buuuuut little girls love Sylvie too!!!”
C’mon. Let’s be real here. The only reason a CHILD “likes”/“loooves” Sylvie is because of people who think that little girls have to admire characters that are their same gender (because for some reason despite y’all being all “gender doesn’t matter!!!” You still think a girl can only look up to and admire a character if it’s a woman, and that a girl has to have female role models/inspiration… which is… really backwards). And they told their kid “look! She is cool! She has powers!” as if that means anything.
Sylvie is literally just a marketing tool.

Someone needs to enlighten all of you as to what narcissism is. Cuz it isn’t Thor/TDW Loki. It actually isn’t even 2021!Loki.
Loki isn’t toxically narcissistic AT ALL AT ANY POINT until the moment the writers and director decided to make him fall in love with and kiss himself in the show. THAT MOMENT was the instance he became a narcissist. Textually and mythologically. Narcissism has two sides: healthy, and unhealthy. To an extent all people have narcissism. Loki, UNTIL RAGNAFUCK, didn’t have a healthy or UNhealthy amount of narcissism. In fact he had such low self esteem that mere vacuous words could leave him dubious in regards to his own self-worth. Loki scrimped and scrounged throughout Thor (2011), Avengers (2012), and Thor: The Dark World (2014) to carve out a sense of self worth for himself that wasn’t determined by his relationship to other powerful people. Loki wanted to have his own meaning, to be regarded on his own level. The show ignored this ENTIRELY, instead claiming Loki a narcissist who enjoys making other people suffer—an antithesis to his declarations in Thor (2011). The reason he objected to Thor’s coronation due the fact he thought the other prince was “arrogant, and reckless—is that what Asgard needs from its king?” hinting Loki DISLIKED THE IDEA of Thor on the throne SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE it would cause the suffering of EVERYONE in Asgard.

People be like “Pls let Loki and Sylvie be together I beg you” and I don’t FUCKING get it.
People claim to love and care for Loki. Why the hell would you put an abused person in a relationship with an abuser? No, seriously now. Tell me. Why would you push for a toxic and abusive relationship, when this is exactly the LAST thing Loki needs?
More than anything Loki needs trust, support and stability.

People in a healthy relationship should support each other and help each other grow, which, yes, includes calling the other person out on their bs (which Loki sometimes needs tbh) but all I ever see Sylvie doing is belittling him and tearing him down. Loki deserves so much better. Honestly, he shouldn’t even be in a relationship until he’s in a more healthy state of mind, otherwise he’s just going to be drawn to toxic people like her, desperate to gain their love and approval, since he was never able to get that from Odin.

Mobius calls her superior version of him. Version of him. A Loki. Its right there in the show multiple times. Ok and if their relationship isnt incest as they insist, lets make TVA Loki kiss President Loki. Use CGI to make two Toms kissing. I would love to see how Sylkies would react to that

Maybe it would have helped Sylvie‘s character development if we had seen more of her without Loki. They should have just given her her own show. Trying to force her into Loki’s space was a grave mistake, imo. But why am I even talking? The show was a hit. Everybody loved it. We are the odd ones out, so what does our advice count? Our analysis? Our metas?
