A lot of careers don’t require (or benefit from) an advanced career. So, it ultimately depends on the individual’s professional goals....

Definitely agree that "advanced" now more than ever is a bit of an overstatement. The cashier position at McDonalds requiring a Bachelor's degree makes me wonder where all the many people without any sort of teritiary education, who make up the vast majority of the population are working...

With rising costs and increasing debt facing many college graduates, discuss why college students should (or should not) pursue advanced degrees.

 The decision should be based on life and career goals. tressiemc makes the valid point that though grad school may not be the sure thing it once was if you work in the civil service, as do many people of colour those advanced degrees can near guarantee promotions and advancement. I'd advise most people to engage in probably cost-benefit analysis.
