she sniffles as she looks from him and out the window, shaking her head softly. a breath in and a breath out. just a prank. just a prank. just a prank. somehow that made her feel worse, blinking gently.
“i understand,” she murmurs, feeling her cheeks burn in embarrassment. it had been a year ago. a year ago. and still she felt so fucking dumb for thinking she stood a chance.
“i shouldn’t have run out like that. it was dangerous,” she admits as well, a forced little smile on her lips.
she misses her sister.
a new found confidence rises in her. (it’s something she’s been working on. now that beth isn’t around to fight her battles for her). the glasses are void from her face as she turns to look at mike.
“it’s a dumb question.. but would you ever... did you ever even... think...” but it’s mike and her cheeks flare pink and she can’t ask the question.
regardless of how much makeup she tries (and fails) to put on, she can’t escape the girl she really is. how delicate her tender heart tends to be. she stays paused.
“i don’t blame you.. by the way.” it’s quiet, a whisper almost as she curls up on the bay window of the lodge.
"why'd you do it, mike?"
Why?
Think before you act, Michael.
The things his father had told him fell on deaf ears - usually, he would apply a great sense of common knowledge to his decisions both grave and general but he could get caught up. Michael didn’t just get where he got without that sort of mental work. He could see the storm building, twisting up into the crescendo of the moment and dragging him in no matter how much he kicked and screamed. Because he wanted it, didn’t he? The lime-lighted stage: all eyes on him, ready for the performance, the drop of the dime reaction because he had that, had it all, since he was young with the tall-tale signs of the deadly smart ass. The type that made mothers groan and fathers swoon when he swayed their daughters into his touch; patted him on the back with one grand hand and declared him a smart, handsome young man.
But had he taken that little tidbit of a life lesson into account? Had he taken the words his father would leave between the space of them in the car before school? A dangling reminder that everything he did, every step in any direction, would affect any outcome? Had he thought of Hannah’s possible sorrow and the heart-wrench that could lock up behind her bones and expand until they were pressing - and then bursting through her?
Not if how she looked at him now had anything to do with it. Eyes sullen, hair matted from wet weather, red-faced from – crying? The flurried mountain? – and slumped like the sinew in her had been snipped in just one place. All it took was for one thing to kind of just… noodle out.
(Not that she looked like a noodle - sure, she maintained the grace of a nerd but she’d always been pretty in her own right. An acquired taste, with glasses, but he’d known her since they started the whole ‘high school’ thing. Mike had grown accustomed and even fond to them.)
“I shouldn’t have.” Mike finally said. There was a bubble around them of quiet that had been there since Hannah’s question, lingering. “It was honestly just a prank. We didn’t mean any harm, Han.”Think before you act, Michael. Remember that other people have feelings too, and don’t always benefit from yours.
I think we all die plenty times while we live; heartbreaks and broken minds, ripped skin and bleeding hearts. Actions and reactions, everything leads to another and then we die over and over. But we live too. Oh, do we live so many times while we are alive! Butterflies and tilted smiles, healed scars and love at first sight. Beautiful words that lead to smiles everything leads to another and we live over and over. We die, we live, but in the end we are happy and whole.

You can’t force love, I realized. It’s there or it isn’t. If it’s not there, you’ve got to be able to admit it. If it is there, you’ve got to do whatever it takes to protect the ones you love.

Can you imagine Chris and Hannah going on a date?
Okay but like… I love when you guys send me fandom related aks/prompts/head canons/etc. It makes me feel included, and that’s just… asjsdfkljslkgjslrt. You’re rad. So I feel like Hannah and Chris are really similar. At least in regards to a certain level of.. naivety? Throughout the game I felt it, and I’m inclined to think that this character trait might bring them together, and in turn be a pretty cute pairing.
I foresee a LOT of laughing - Chris is a goofball, and thrives off the positive energy that his goofing can create. And Hannah is, let’s face it, a precious little cinnamon roll (you guys saw her room, right?). I think they’d feed off one another in a really great way. And I see some seriously traditional ‘dates’ happening - meaning “I’ll pick you up at 7 so we can grab dinner, then let’s hit a movie”, followed by the ole’ yawn-n-stretch maneuver midway through the film. No funny business though - I don’t think that Chris would initiate any gropeage during the film. I kind of feel like maybe they wouldn’t really even acknowledge a Date as a formal… date? Like, nah! We’re just grabbing coffee today. And a movie next week. And dinner a few days later. And then going on a trip over Spring Break together… And skiing together in the Winter…. And totally not buying each other gifts…. Nah totally not dating.
In the end though, I’m not sure if I see it lasting? I do picture them both as the type of people who would end it on good terms though. Maybe because they’re both people pleasers, and holding a grudge would be far too difficult and anxiety ridden to do. Plus, I think their friendship outside a relationship would be a really amazing. Maybe even more a Brother and Sister dynamic, since I see he and Josh hanging out with the twins a lot.
PS: Chris, had he been sober and conscious, would have NEVER let that prank happen. Don’t care what anyone says. He’d have fought tooth and nail.I’m sorry if that was completely ridiculous and just… flat out bad. But there’s my stream of thought on that topic. Thank you SO much for asking, Anon ; 0 ; I hope the doodle makes you smile!
The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.

Josh gives her a look, sighing softly. It seemed to be a Washington gene, the whole believing they had to be there to protect everyone else and make them happy. He wished it would have skipped over Hannah, she was already such a sweetheart, adding potentially self-sacrificing was a recipe for disaster.
“Yeah, you’re too much of a badass to fight anyone, anyway. You’d totally just destroy them, turn them to dust, wreck their shit.”
He grins again, keeping his concern away for only a few heartbeats before he hears what she says. No friends? What losers wouldn’t want to be best friends with THE Hannah Washington?
“What? How do you not have any friends, Banana? Ugh. You go to school with a buncha losers, seriously. They don’t see what they’re missing out on.”
A huff, his arms folding over his chest, and just a tiny bit of annoyance in his eyes. Never towards Hannah, of course. But, to people that didn’t understand her.
“You’re smart, you’re beautiful, you have a great personality, you do that adorable thing when you laugh where your nose scrunches up.. Seriously, they just don’t know a great person when they see one. I would totally be your bff.”
joshua was her biggest hero in the world. she knew he wasn’t perfect, even though she didn’t know all the details. and the feeling she had when he was around only lifted her up and made her want to be a better person. this is her big brother, the person that looked out for her when she needed it most.
oh no, he’s complimenting her.
a surge of pride rises within her, and the smile blooms along her soft pink lips.
her cheeks burn hotly as he speaks so highly of her and she just shakes her head, looking down demurely as she lets out a shy little giggle. “you’re just saying that cuz you have like a brother contract to be nice to me,” she whispers.
hannah’s tiny body leans into josh’s side and curls close. she’s thankful for him, grateful even. “it’s been so quiet without you. dad and bethy have been fighting more,” she finally confesses as her face turns a bit more solemn.
she resorts to curling closer as her brows push together. “do you want to go do something?” she asks softly.
@cravn
she’s wearing beth’s beanie as she worries her lip and places her hand atop his, squeezing it gently.
“are you okay?” she whispers softly to her brother. she’s wearing makeup (a new progression) and it’s not really all that well done. but she’s trying to adapt and change.
ever since...
well....
they took her away from her.
the ouija game was a bust, and she knows that. she can tell from his face. “you’re not telling me something, joshie. what’s going on?” she asks him, her soft thumb running along the back of his hand, deep brown hues swimming with love and worry as they search for his.
She blushes warmly and looks down at his compliment but shakes her head. Her lips are in a smile. Han takes his hand and kisses his knuckles. "It's not a comparison. You're beautiful. Inside and out. And.. That's not dependent on what I look like. Besides, you know I'm terribly terrible at lying. So no take backs."
He stares at his sister for a moment, but smiles, genuinely this time. “Alright, alright.. Fine. You win, Hannah..” Shaking his head, he squeezes her hand. “Only because you kind of admitted that you’re beautiful, too.”
@ahabitoftakingthingsforgranted
m-mike? what are you doing here? i’m supposed to be.. meeting someone.
{they’re two hours late, hannah. i don’t think they’re coming. her head bows down and she swallows as she fiddles with her nails.}
is everything okay? {she asks as she peeks back up at him with her soft eyes.}
