Novella's Song
Black dark nothingness… I am not alive. I need to be reborn. I need something other than this darkness to consume me. I need life, I need to breathe, I need to feel; I need to awaken myself again.
It is a new day and Novella is lying in her room, she has yet to realize the day is new. There are things going around her that she hasn’t seen yet, actually she hasn’t even noticed them. Novella’s family has severely decreased in numbers ever since the plague. Her mother died almost immediately after she got sick, her siblings hung on a little longer but in the end it was only her and her father. What once was a booming Middle Class family is now only two left for survival in a new world.
I dread opening my eyes. Every day is painful since Mother died. Father is doing his best to regain what we once had but it isn’t easy.
“Coo coo.” A bird’s song is let out and they flutter their wings in an effort to relax and land on its desired perch.
Wait what was that? I heard something, a sound I have never heard before. Was that a bird?
Novella opened her eyes and it was like an electric shock was sent through every nerve in her eyes, which shot through her brain and down to each nerve in her body. Her toes were tingling and her hands no longer felt numb. She was awakened, life just filled her body. She had been laying her in bed for months, filled with hate, sadness and misery. Her family was gone and she was unable to cope.
What is this? What once was black is color, brightness has replaced the dark, sound has replaced the silence, joy has taken away my sadness.
In an instance the darkness of the old world has been taken over and the beauty of true life has filled Novella. The Sun was shining and she could no longer feel pain from the darkness of her life being taken over by death.
Novella stood up out of bed, walked slowly to her rose window in an attempt to peek outside. What she saw was a new world.
