Record #365, 7″ #196 is the Menzingers “Hold On Dodge” 2009 saw the release of the first seven inch record by the Menzingers three years after their first full length record and just one year prior to their second full length they released this four song E.P. which contains the tracks “Sunday Morning”, “Lilith Avi”, “They Speak Of My Drinking, But Never Of My Thirst” and “Red, White, And Blues”.This is some of my favorite material by this band as their first two records were their best and this is one of their best moments right here in my opinion. THE BLANK FIGHT

Record #364, 12″ #173 is the Blank Fight “House Band Feud” Released in 2003 this one album band which includes the infamous Aaron Cometbus (best none for his zine Cometbus but also a member of legendary bands such as Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder among others). It’s about what you’d expect from a crew of aging East Bay punk rockers. (original pressing)

Record #363, 7″ #195 is Meneguar “Bury A Flower” Release in 2006, this is the only seven inch record Meneguar ever released after their first full length and before their second full length. B side is “Freshman Thoughts” (original pressing)

the BLACK HEART PROCESSION

Record #362, 12″ #172 is the Black Heart Procession “Blood Bunny / Black Rabbit 2010 saw the last full length release by BHP, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether we’ll ever see another record from these guys or not at this point. This is probably BHP’s most eclectic release to date, it’s a bit different in ways that words fail me. It’s still dark, perhaps darker? There’s plenty of Nick Cave influence and perhaps even a bit of Trent Reznor influence, there’s also a psych element to it. It’s both haunting and mesmerizing with it’s hollowed melodies, it’s echoing percussion and it’s poignant lyrics. I hope we do see another BHP album as I’d like to see where they go next, there is a heavy experimental feel to this record which kind of threw me and at first I didn’t much care for it, it definitely took a few listens for it to fully sink in. It’s like a BHP on LSD! (original pressing)

MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS

Record #361, 7″ #194 is Martha & the Vandellas “Dancing In The Street” This classic was released way back in 1964, 12 years before I was even born. “Dancing In The Street” is backed with “There He Is (At My Door)” I don’t have the picture sleeve, this one is jukebox bound! (not sure on pressing, it’s a Gordy issue though)

Record #360, 12″ #171 is the Black Heart Procession “Six” Released in 2009, “Six” technically would be their sixth full length record not counting the “In The Fishtank” session with Solbakken. This is a three sided record with the fourth side a nice etching and on red vinyl! It’s a lot of material to take in but it’s somehow darker, more brooding and yet more alive than their previous releases without being different, they didn’t discard any part of their formula, perhaps just expanded upon it or adjusted it like one might adjust there pants after getting up from sitting down. (Second pressing, on red vinyl!)

MARCUS NOISE

Record #359, 7″ #193 is Marcus Noise “Not Anymore” Released in 1994 this is the only piece of vinyl from my very favorite Minneapolis band at the time. I’ve seen them play the Warehouse in La Crosse, the Pla-Mor Ballroom in Rochester, MN and countless venues in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Fortunately this little piece of vinyl contains my two most favorite songs by the band, “Not Anymore” and “Afraid For Now”. Still hoping to see a full length record someday! Three of the nicest guys I know and they sure know how to rock. Possibly my most coveted seven inch record! (original pressing)

Record #358, 12″ #170 is the Black Heart Procession “The Spell” 2006′s “The Spell”, BHP’s sixth full length record brings us more dark beautiful trailing melancholy in true BHP fashion. Their sixth LP continues to form the web. Another masterpiece of intertwining sounds and melodies to draw you in. (original pressing)

Record #357, 7″ #192 is Man Afraid “Those Disenchanted” Released in 1997 just two years after their first seven inch record, this would unfortunately be the last as singer Mike Griffin committed suicide after this was recorded and before it was released. Five great tracks here, wish we could have heard more from this band! R.I.P. Mike Griffin! (original pressing)

Record #356, 12″ #169 is the Black Heart Procession / Solbakken “In The Fishtank 11” In The Fishtank is a series put together by Dutch label Konkurrent where a band is selected and they chose another band to bring into the studio to write and record a record with. The Black Heart Procession was chosen for the 11th record and they chose Dutch band Solbakken. This is the 11th “In The Fishtank” LP and Black Heart Procession’s 5th LP. (original pressing)

MAN AFRAID

Record #355, 7″ #191 is Man Afraid “Uphill Struggle” Released in 1995 the same year I officially graduated high school, this four song seven inch record was the first release for the all too short lived Minneapolis punk band Man Afraid. Hands down my favorite punk band to ever come out of Minneapolis! Only 2000 of these were ever pressed, fortunately all their songs are compiled onto one CD for those not lucky enough to snatch one of these up back in the day!

Record #354, 12″ #168 is the Black Heart Procession “Amore Del Tropico” The Black Heart Procession break in naming their fourth full length record Four and instead name it “Amore Del Tropico”. Released in 2002, “Amore Del Tropico” is quite an epic endeavor as well bringing what we’ve come to expect from the band and more the sound is bigger like motion picture vs. independent film. The record in fact sounds as if it could be an epic soundtrack to a love drama/crime thriller. (original pressing)

EGG HUNT

Record #353, 7″ #190 is Egg Hunt “Me And You” Recorded and released in 1986 by ex-Minor Threat members Jeff Nelson and Ian MacKaye, though not the original intension of the project it turned out to be a one off, just these two songs, just this one seven inch record. The original plan was to have Steve and Geoff from Gray Matter round out the band, instead Steve, Geoff and Jeff started the band 3. (original pressing)

Record #352, 12″ #167 is David Bazan “Strange Negotiations” Bazan’s second proper full length released in 2011, the title track “Strange Negotiations” is probably one of my all time favorite Bazan songs.

Record #351, 7″ #189 is the Make-Up “Born On The Floor / Little Black Book” Released in 1999 the same year as the full length “Save Yourself”, the Make-Up would only release one more single and then one final LP six years later in 2005. (original pressing)

BAD BRAINS

Record #350, 10″ #9 is Bad Brains “The Omega Sessions” Not released until 1997 after Bad Brains broke up and got back together again, their reuniting with the original lineup was due to Madonna oddly enough. This was actually their first “real” recording under the name Bad Brains dating back to 1979-1980? Five tracks including the earliest version of “I Against I” as well as the songs “Stay Close To Me”, “I Love I Jah”, “At The Movies” and “Attitude”. (2015 repress on yellow vinyl)
