Meeting Firefighter!Katsuki Bakugo at Neighbour!Ochaco's firehouse cookout.
Having Ochaco Uraraka as a neighbour meant every time she hosted the firehouse cookout you were invited. The place was swarming with beefed up men and women, a drool-fest for anyone with eyes. And Jesus Christ, were you drooling.
You’d settled in pretty fast– Ochaco introduced you to some of her co-workers, who greeted you with a big grin and kind words. It was nice; good food, flowing drinks.
You mainly hung around the barbecue, talking with a green haired EMT. He was sweet, filling your plate with food whenever it looked remotely empty. He’d introduced himself as Izuku at the beginning of the evening, but you'd quickly caught onto his nickname, Deku, as a result of everyone greeting him as such.
“– But yeah, that’s basically how I got into firefighting. I actually joined alongside one of my friends but uh, I’m not sure if he’ll show face tonight or not. He can be slightly…what’s the word… anti-social?” Izuku laughed to himself, flipping sausages over the flame.
You nodded, letting out a small giggle of your own. “I get it, I have a few friends like that. It’s okay though, socialising is not for everyone.” You paused for a moment, Izuku met your eyes briefly. “You don’t seem to have an issue with that, though.” You grinned.
“Pfft..” The freckled man let air escape his lips “You’d be surprised. I was a quiet teenager.” He replied.
“I find that hard to believe.” You snorted, taking a swig of your beer.
Izuku opened his mouth again before a loud chorus of cheers came from behind you. Izuku closed the lid of the BBQ, turning his head to look around. “Speak of the devil.” He chuckled, pointing to guide your eyes toward a blonde, spiky haired man slung over Ochaco’s shoulder. He had a look of pure dismay on his face, shouting something barely audible over the yells of the firehouse’s inhabitants.
“Is he okay?” You questioned, glancing between Izuku and the blonde man who had been placed back down on his feet by Ochaco. The crowd had now dispersed, making the view of the two a little clearer.
Next to you, Izuku just nodded. “Yeah he’s fine.”
You swore you looked away for ten seconds, looking back to see this absolute beast of a man stalking toward you. “Oh my God I’m gonna die.” You murmured, closing your eyes and accepting your apparent fate. You just heard the boy beside you laugh.
“Kacchan!” He greeted. You peeked one eye open, looking cautiously at the blonde.
“Who the hell is this extra?” He grunted, waving Izuku out the way to look at the food.
Izuku just chuckled, gesturing to you as he lifted the lid of the barbecue. “This is Ochaco’s neighbour.” You looked at the man next to you as he offered out his hand.
“Katsuki Bakugou.” He deadpanned, ruby red eyes piercing into your own. You introduced yourself with a squeak, shaking his hand carefully. “I don’t bite.” He added, looking back at the barbecue when he let go of your hand.
Izuku squinted at him, "you definitely do.” He muttered, shaking his head and handing a plate to Bakugou.
“Nice to meet you, anyway.” You spoke finally, stepping away from the barbecue so it wasn’t so crowded. “You also work at the firehouse?”
Bakugou let out a loud laugh. “Work there? I’m the fire chief.” he scoffed. “So you’re Ochaco’s neighbour?” he asked, closing the metal lid and holding the plate under his chin, taking a massive bite from his burger.
Your eyes widened. “Oh, shit I’m sorry I didn’t know.” You responded, waving your hands in front of you in apology. “And yeah, uh, Ochaco and I have lived next door to each other for a few years now. I look after her and Himiko’s cat when they’re both away.” Your eyes raked over him for a moment.
Izuku giggled, scuttling off with a cheery “I’ll give you guys some time to get to know each other!”
Bakugou was dressed in a pair of bootcut jeans and a tight black shirt, sticking across his biceps and chest in a way that had you gulping down your beer. He met eyes with you as you finally pulled your gaze away from his pecs. “Eyes up here.” He snorted, licking the sauce off his fingers. “You wouldn’t like it if I was staring at you like that.” he remarked flirtily.
Huh? You stared at him as he ate nonchalantly. Blinking out of your daze with a smirk. “I dunno about that, something is telling me I really wouldn’t mind that much, Bakugou.”
“Katsuki, call me Katsuki.” He paused for a moment. “You always this bold with people you’ve just met?” He questioned, finishing off his burger with a final large bite. You shrugged innocently.
“Only to handsome strangers.” You winked.
“Bold.” He smirked, placing his plate down on the table next to you. “Do you need another drink?” He asked. You nodded. “Come. I’ll get you a beer.” Katsuki’s head jerked to the side, gesturing to the house. You followed him in through the patio door, b-lining for the fridge.
He pulled it open with a tug, bending two ice-cold beers, giving you a slight flash of the waistband of white boxers. He held it up for you to inspect. “That’s fine.” You nodded. Katsuki placed one down on the counter, using a penis-shaped bottle opener from his keychain. You snorted and he glared at you from the corner of his eye.
“It was a gag gift. I have a collection of stupid friends.” He grumbled, shaking his head.
“Must be nice, though I didn't say anything.” You giggled, smiling cheekily. “So, what other “gag gifts” do you have?” You asked, leaning against the kitchen counter, taking your beer from him and clinking the neck against his.
“Those cartoon white with red-heart boxers.” he deadpanned. You stared at him, eyes travelling south for a moment.
“You’re serious? You have them on?” You asked, gaze flicking back up to his face.
Katsuki raised an eyebrow. “Why, you wanna see?” He guffawed at the red hot blush blooming over your cheeks. You slapped your hand against his arm.
“You’re so bad.” You muttered. Katsuki cracked a smile. And that’s when you became aware you appeared to have a small crowd watching you. You looked over your shoulder to see Ochaco with her hands over her heart, cooing through the class door. “What the hell?”
Katsuki sighed, straightening out and walking over to the glass, he yanked it open, muttering some cold words to Izuku, Ochacco and a red haired man you’d met as Kirishima. Each backed away from the house, cowering together in a huddle.
The blonde slammed the door again, turning to look at you. “How about I get your number? Maybe we could meet again without an audience.”
You nodded, glancing past him at the trio who all had their backs to you, each doing the self-hug-makeout trick. You restrained a laugh, letting a soft giggle escape your lips instead. “Sure, why the hell not.”
So much for being anti-social.
