How my OCs fit into captain underpants (+Backstory and personality)
Episodes about a non-binary character being introduced and having the episode's plot being about their gender doesn't have to come off as forced rep that's used for cheap applause . As long as you continue having them as a supportive character as commonly as the rest of the supportive characters, and continue using their correct pronouns.
This is what would happen with Tay. It wouldn’t be out of place since a lot of the supporting cast get their own defining episodes like Erica and Bo. Tay's episode would be about them being new to jerome horwitz and keeping their gender identity a secret from the new friends they make. The episode would explain why.
Tay once lived in a predominantly white suburban neighborhood as a Mexican child. Adults around them already didn’t care for them due to racism, though they never said it out loud. The kids, however, didn't have that problem with Tay and their family because hatred is taught. The kids in their school thought Tay was really cool as they would dance with the other girls, but also play games with the boys.
Being a girl and acting feminine really never sat right with Tay. They never really felt like they fit into the girl or boys category. When they explained how they felt to their parents, they and their family sat down and got onto the computer, learning about the trans umbrella, and the different labels you can identify as. Tay felt they fit the term “non-binary” the best. Their parents supported them, but warned them to keep this close. But since they didn't explain why, day ignored them, and came out to everyone they knew as non-binary. Parents, teachers, and adults in general were outraged. They scolded Tay for trying to push an “agenda” onto the other children, and yelled at their parents for letting them do this. Suddenly, things changed. The people in the neighbourhood were less subtle about their racism now that they had another reason to dislike this literal child. Kids at school stopped hanging out with Tay because their parents told them to stay away from that “demon child.” They were even bullied by a few of their classmates. No one did anything to stop it.
Obviously, their parents knew they couldn't continue living here. The last thing they wanted is their child growing up in a hostile and hateful environment. So, they moved to Piqua, and enrolled Tay into Jerome Horwitz elementary school.
Tay's backstory would be explained by the narrator. The racism would be left out of the story in the show(for now) because that's not what this episode would be about.
The episode would cover the transphobia that non-binary people have to deal with. Tay would probably end up turning into a monster like Bo, Jessica, or Dressy have. The monster would not represent gender dysphoria. It would instead represent the insecurity Tay feels from their past.
Tay’s fear of being shunned and rejected again is their conflict. Obviously, in the end, Tay comes out to everyone and explains who they are, and everyone accepts them. Teaching the lesson that there will always be people who will support you
After that whole thing, Tay will show their true personality. They’re loud and very social. They'll crack jokes(good or bad) constantly, and will jump headfirst in any whacky situation that's within five miles of them. They love physical activity, whether it's dance or sports, which gives them a fun(and friendly) athletic rivalry with Erica. They also come to be great friends with Dressy, as they dance to her songs. And they become best friends with one more person. Hmmm…. But who will that be?
