Queen Linden of the Under Court
There was a time before the Wizards grip that Linden was on the road to stardom. She was special, really special. A once in a generation kind of talent.
Maybe that’s what caught the Wizards eye. Was he drawn in by her ambition or simply intimidated by it?
Either way, Linden would become his new favored performer for the Palace of Oz. Preforming in its massive theater first some weekends and then for what seemed most nights.
I think you can tell where this story goes, unfortunately it’s not as rare as her talent. The Wizard wanted Linden for more than entertainment on stage. He showered her in gifts, chased her and promised her the world. Until the game had ended and another came into view.
They said she had been casting curses on the land of Oz. That it must have been deal with demons that brought her talent and fame.
They convinced those across the land who were starving that she had cursed their crops and sent sickness to their homes. She had to be stopped for the sake of their children.
And so with lit torches and angry hearts, she was taken to the town square where her light was extinguished.
She wouldn’t stay gone for long, her sister would make sure of that.
Notes on the inspiration for Linden
-Linden is inspired by opera singer, Jenny Lind. You may remember her from the Greatest Showman. But what you might not know is that she was a real person and the movie, although stunning, did her a grave injustice. The movie makes it seem as though Jenny was obsessed with PT Barnum and was trying to “steal” him from his wife. In reality, he was obsessed with money and fame and knew she would be his ticket.
-Linden is inspired by Victorian death practices, Lady Jane Grey and Persephone, the queen of the underworld.
