MING-NA WEN as FENNEC SHAND in THE MANDALORIAN 2.06
sometimes frogs are liquid
I very seldom post anything political on my blog but when I read this I had no choice but to post it.
This is why itās important to have those uncomfortable and sometimes heated discussions with your parents/grandparents if you can afford to. You can open their eyes like nobody else, because you know them better than anyone else, and usually theyāll trust you more than any news source. I actually had to rebuke my mom for sending an article about masks being ineffective from a disreputable source not that long ago, and she thanked me.
If you can do this without threatening your safety, I 100% encourage you to do so.
It is important to make these people uncomfortable. That's how change happens.

Iāve said this before and Iāll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL
āoh we shouldnāt teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where itās noisy or they need to be quietā
My mom learned it because she figured sheāll go deaf when she gets old
My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.
The only reason some form of sign language is not a standard skill is ableism, as far as I can tell.
For anyone interested in learning, Bill Vicars has full lessons of ASL on youtube that were used in my college level classes.Ā

I learned ASL because I had Deaf/HoH customers at Trader Joeās and let me tell you something- they get SO EXCITED when I signed with them. There was this couple that came in around closing and the staff kept trying to tell them weād be closing soon but they ignored them. Finally, I saw one had a hearing aid so I tapped him on the shoulder and signed, āStore close in ten minutesā and he got really excited and grabbed his girlfriend then told me to āRepeat, repeat!ā So I did, and they signed āThank you, so nice (to) have (a) person who can communicate with us.ā
(Words like to and a donāt exist in ASL)
