Henry winced, looking down at the horrible mess he’d made. “I’m really sorry, I was trying to reach that other one, and everything just sort of… spilled. Crashed, I guess. Listen, I’ll clean it up… okay? And do I need to pay you for it? I really didn’t mean to.”

"It's fine, really," Emily says in a cool tone. "I'd rather clean it myself."

Pretty Painted Face || Halloween || Jane and Emily

Jane had signed up to help with the face painting booth and she was enjoying it so far. She hadn’t been there too long and she had only painted two face, but she had done a pretty good job in her opinion. She watched as the last person’s face she painted ran off with a butterfly on their cheek and she smiled happily. She looked up as someone new came to the booth and gave a smile. “Would you like to get your face painted?”

"No thank you," Emily said with a (forced) smile. She was just handing out fruit to everyone working at booths to make sure they stayed on top of everything. Festivals were busy, and even though Emily preferred not to participate in them, she still wanted to get her fruit out there. "Would you care for some fresh fruit?"

Pumpkin Carving || Estelle and Emily

Estelle loved Halloween. Everything about the holiday she loved. The candy, the costumes and especially the pumpkins. Candy and costumes were always at her disposal. Being an adult meant that she could buy as much as she want whenever she wanted and costumes were just part of her everyday life. Pumpkins however were special. Estelle had a habit of spending far more time than she should carving a single pumpkin, making it into a replica of Starry Night, or a peacock. The court was filled with pumpkins the entire month of October, it was rare to find her without a knife and a pumpkin on her lap. 

When she’d learned of the Halloween fair, she automatically signed herself up to do pumpkin carving. She could sit at the table all day and carve pumpkins. It’d be nice for people to come and visit her booth, but if they didn’t she wouldn’t mind all that much. Carefully she wiggled her knife around the cat she was working on when she noticed a shadow being cast over her, “Oh, hi!” She said while setting her pumpkin aside and looking up with a smile, “Do you want to carve a pumpkin?”

Emily was not so big on Halloween. Because she lived so far out in the woods, pesky teenagers liked to try to 'visit' on Halloween, telling tales about Emily and the woman who lived in an old cottage in the woods. It was annoying, to be honest. She didn't want the company, she didn't have the candy, and she didn't want people stomping around her gardens. So his year, she not only made sure to place a sign telling others to go away, but she also decided to grace Storybrooke with her presence at the fair. She figured she could try to sell some of her fruit, even though not everyone was too keen on the idea of fruit over candy.

Business was about as good as it could be, she supposed. Emily was done and ready to leave, a little paranoid that someone was going to try to stop by her cottage anyways, but before she left she found herself hovering over the pumpkin carving booth. She appreciated the beauty of carving pumpkins and the one this women was carving was truly a masterpiece. She didn't realize she was staring for so long until the woman asked her if she wanted to carve one! She shook her head and politely declined. "I was just appreciating yours. It's very lovely." Emily rarely handed out compliments, so this truly was something to behold.

Laser Tag! || Halloween Festival || Chelsea & Emily

She was sitting at her little booth. It was just a sign up place but she also got to explain rules as well. “See you tonight!” She called out to the person who had just signed up, waving. She propped and elbow up on the table top of her booth and watched everyone go by. This was so much fun! She’d been out exploring earlier when one of the boys were watching the booth. (She’d roped Bobble and Clank into helping her run the laser tag game.) But now she was getting excited for the game. It would be so much fun, running all over the festival grounds and shooting one another…. She couldn’t wait! 

That was when she caught someone looking at her booth. She smiled a dazzling smile and waved. “C’mon you know you wanna play!”

As soon as she was caught staring at the laser tag booth, Emily's face reddened. It caught her eye because it was something she has yet to see and it made her think of how she was as a kid. She was always bouncing off the walls, eager to play, and if she was the little girl she was before being Mother Nature....she would have loved to play. Sometimes Emily got sentimental like this, despite her indifference, and it really bothered her. Then again, that'll teach her for repressing her old memories like she did.

She takes a hesitant step towards the woman who spoke to her, mildly curious as to what exactly laser tag was. She didn't want to openly admit she was curious, not at first, but eventually she mumbles, "What is this even?"

Bean Bag Toss || Halloween || Nigel and Emily

Nigel had a thing for pumpkins. Nigel had a thing for most things actually, but pumpkins were something that he loved a little more than others. He had a habit of buying large quantities of small pumpkins and carving little faces into them. This year was no exception, and now each room in their house had at least one little pumpkin. Even Victoria’s room had a little pumpkin with a grumpy face carved into it. 

At the moment Nigel was playing with the bean bags at his booth. It was a simple game, you just tossed the bean bags though the holes in the giant pumpkin that he’d painted on a piece of wood. If you got two of the bags through holes you walked away with a mini pumpkin of your own. The edges of his table had little carved pumpkins on them and the rest was filled with uncarved ones. While he waited for people to come play the game, he stood carefully juggling the bags and humming to himself.

Emily had only been at the carnival to see if she could wheel her new cart of fresh fruits and vegetables around as everyone enjoyed themselves. She wasn't one to really enjoy customs such as this, and preferred the solitude of her home. Still, she knew good business when she saw it, and she figured there had to be some people who preferred healthy foods over candy. 

However a certain booth made her stop in her tracks, and only because she was very curious as to what this guy was doing. She was sure that this was a bean bag toss booth, but with all of the pumpkins surrounding it, she could easily get it confused for throwing pumpkins. That was certainly not okay.

She walks over to the man in charge of the booth and makes sure her cart is tucked behind her, so no one can trample it. "Excuse me sir, but is this a bean bag tossing booth or a pumpkin throwing one?"

"WHAT THE H-I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to…. dad gummit, sorry about that too. AH-!"

“You know what? I’m just going to stop moving now. “

Emily watches as her arrangement of flowers fall and its vase shatters. She glares at the boy in front of her and bends over to pick up the flowers. "I think that is best, actually."

Pumpkin Picking || OPEN

Emily knew this was bound to happen sooner or later. Every few years or so, she would offer her pumpkin patch to some of the people in Storybrooke and they could have the opportunity to pick one of the best pumpkins Emily had to offer (the very best she has in her cottage to herself). It was one of the few times Emily allowed her home to be invaded by, what she liked to call them, the pretenders. The name amused her because they weren't aware they were pretending to be people they aren't, but they are so Emily rather not interact with most of them.

She didn't charge much for her pumpkins, but she had a few rules to the people who came onto her territory. One; they must not wander any point further than her pumpkin patch. Her gardens took most of her land and she didn't want children or ignorant pretenders stomping on them. Two; one you have picked a pumpkin, you are done. No coming back for more. She didn't want any of them snooping around her temporary home. She liked to stay out of the way of their affairs, especially since she was not in her true form anymore. Her power is limited and it drives her dotty sometimes. No need to have someone irritate her enough to remind her of her horrible situation. And her last rule was very simple; no conflict on her part of the woods. She hated conflict and refused to takes sides no matter what. It was easy to avoid it and so she did.

This years pumpkin picking has been going fairly normal, at least it was until she saw someone continually pick her beloved pumpkins up and drop them as if they were nothing if they didn't like that particular pumpkin. Emily hated it when people mishandled her things, especially when they came from the Earth. She walks over to this person, confident and very annoyed. "Excuse me," she says in her commanding, yet gentle voice, "But could you be careful with my pumpkins? They are not meant to be mistreated."

"Why not? Halloween is literally the best holiday! I don’t have to call my parents, I don’t feel shitty for eating alone, I don’t have to buy presents for people I don’t like. It’s amazing!"

Background:

Alone, strong willed, and content with life, Emily has never reached out nor felt the need to. She’s never felt lonely, or craved the presence of other people. In fact, if she were to never see another person, she’d hardly care. She’s far more interested in the world around her, and the children of the earth; her gardens. She lives deep in the forests of Storybrooke, and barely raises her head outside her property. Emily don’t partake in the rituals of humans, because she knows very well she’s not. Emily remembers exactly who she is, and what she can do.

Mother Nature has always had her roots fixed into every world, and she is very much still the harsh mother of the earth she always was. She never discriminated or chose a side in good or evil. She was fair to both, and it often came off as cruel. Emily doesn’t care for the lives of humans, often they’re the cause of harm on her earth. If she can help it, she stays out of the affairs of humans. She’d much rather they left her alone, and fended for themselves. But of all the creatures on her earth, there was one she cared for the most. Her father, Pitch Black, the keeper of fear. She avoided him in his past life, finding him nothing but a shadow of the man he use to be. But now, in Storybrooke, there’s a flicker of the father he once was. He had memories of a child forced on him by the curse, and she watched as he spiralled down once he lost yet another daughter. He’s still not the man she knew as a child, but it was the closest she’d get.

Emily watched Pitch from occasions, though doesn’t bother with rekindling their lost family. He wouldn’t remember her even if she tried. He was still the cruel and horrid creature she despised, Pitch Black. But, in the end, he was still the father that thought he was sacrificing himself for his daughter, and she hates seeing him in pain. Emily grows various fruits, and sells them in town. She uses the opportunity to check on Pitch, before sealing herself away once more. But now that the curse is weakening, she’s curious to how it’ll effect her father.
